Amphetamine metabolism affected by barbiturates?

I am curious if barbiturates induce the cpy2d6 pathway (which I have read that they do) to any appreciable extent and if concurrent use would increase the rate of dextroamphetamine clearance?

Historically the barbiturate/amphetamine combo was used to treat neurotic depression and I certainly can see why. I understand the types of issues that arise with barbiturates, especially in conjunction with other sedatives. Not looking to do anything crazy. Therapeutic and prescribed doses of each.

How much of amphetamine metabolism is dependent upon the cpy2d6 pathway? Would inhibition increase amphetamine levels in the blood?

Barbiturates don't induce CYP2D6, glutethimide does. That's why glutethimide was used by some with codeine when it was still available. I think the enzyme induction from barbiturates is similar to what alcohol and tobacco smoke do.
