anyone else work in advertising, marketing, and/or PR? it's fun to discuss efforts, campaigns, successes, and flops. i'm on lots of message boards and discussion groups about the subjects, but those people are not my fellow bluelighters.

i'm in-house for a local nonprofit. we just launched our first billboard campaign, and i'm pretty excited about it. the reason i have such cool items in my budget this year is because we recently received city money through a controversial initiative, creating a nice PR stir.

Well, at the moment, I am reminded how advertising is fucking up the web. Luckily we still have research journals.

i have a pretty cynical view of the main fields of advertising/marketing/PR, i guess it can be used for good, but after watching some adam curtis documentaries going into the origins of the public relations role in american society, it really seems to be another form of control/helping further consumerism.

It's another form of PSYOPS, and it's very annoying.
