I was wondering about the availability of ADHD medications in the United Kingdom.
I'm a student and I've been in London since 2012, I have mild ADD and decided to make some research on meds in the UK. I found out that Concerta and Elvance are actually prescribed, however stuff like Adderall isn't.

Therefore I wanted to know how do you obtain a prescription for ADHD meds. Are general practitioners able to prescribe them or only psychiatrist and neurologists? I also wouldn't like to be red flagged with "drug seeking behavior" if I end up going to a doctor.

If any body has some info or input feel free to answer

Thanks

Although I've no direct experience with Ad(h)D prescriptions myself, I know plenty who have and a script for methylphenidate appears to be as liberally handed out as the diagnoses are - as long as you're a child. The scripts are usually pulled upon reaching 18 and it seems difficult to get them reinstated. Getting a new script as an adult appears to be nigh on impossible - though you may stand a better chance as an immigrant.

Well I imagined it to be quite difficult, I have experienced the same issue with Benzos. Wanted to get prescribed Lorazepam merely for rec purposes once a month (I know stupid) and I had to study an entire monologue on how it is the only medicine that works while SSRI's and Beta blockers are completely useless. Ended up getting prescribed FOUR Valium 5mg pills lol with an "intimidation" that I will be kept under control (I have no idea how). The doctor also told me that my case was a rare exception as she never prescribes Benzos.

But returning to the ADHD medicine issue, it doesn't really make sense that they're easily prescribed to kids but not to adults...

As far as I am aware you will need to be referred to a specialist via your GP who will probably evaluate you to see whether you qualify for an adult ADHD diagnosis.

I think adderall is available but very rarely prescribed as it is much more expensive than the other options.

I'm afraid "how do get speed on script?" threads do not belong here.
