Opioids 10-15 mg Percocet a day for years

Question, I'm 6'3 205 and take 10-15mg a day in the evening of Percocet for back pain from slipped discs. I've been on this dose for around 4-5 years and never increased the amount, just took this in the evenings to get the back to calm down enough to not stay awake.

I'm thinking about dumping it all together and trying just Ibuprofen for a while. Any thoughts on what withdrawing from this daily amount will look like? I'm worried about the years of use having an irreversible medical effect on me.

Thanks

Should not be that severe.

Slowly decrease your dose. Do 15mg a night for say 7 days then 10mg for 7 days then 7.5mg for 7 days, then in the same manner at 5mg and 2.5mg.

Your withdrawal should be not severe if you follow this approach.

The question is, will ibuprofen be enough for your pain. Ibuprofen is very hard on the stomach and daily use is problematic. I used to take it daily and i can no longer take it as it causes severe stomach pain now (i think it caused an ulcer). In that regard the percocet is less harmful and technically less toxic than ibuprofen.

What makes you want to discontinue?
