1. if you like _____________, you might like this film.
2. why you like it?
3. where to stream it?

Don't be afraid to suggest a popular film. Lots of people may have skipped them thinking they were no good when they may actually be missing out.

The best scary movie from the standpoint someone who never was into horror movies is the original Poltergeist dir. by Tobe Hooper who did Texas Chainsaw Massacre which I have no interest in seeing. The cast is absolutely Pitch Perfect and maybe the most cursed from the standpoint of what happened to many of them after making the movie about a particular house in a particular neighborhood that had a terrible curse.
Special shout-out to the brilliant actress who portrayed the medium communicating with the Souls of the Dead

Don't have streaming services but imagine it's on all of them

Blood Red Sky

1. If you liked:
Let the Right One In
Under the Shadow
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

2. Well directed, talented lead actors, intense, dark, unpredictable.

3. Netflix

I don't have the brain power right now to do the whole "if you liked this and this, you'll like this", BUT I'm a horror connoisseur so just take my word for it lol. A couple of recent good watches are:

The Platform (Netflix) Very good, must watch!!
Martyrs (Netflix)
Lights Out (Netflix, not new, I just recently watched it. It actually made me jump which is very rare for me! 😀)
Otis (I don't know, I watched it on DVD, but worth searching for)

I really enjoyed both The Witch and The Lighthouse. Odd films, if you're into gore-porn, these ain't the ones for you. More focused on building tension and mystery, much like The Wicker Man or the first Alien film.

First four Alien films are good, classic blend of sci-fi/horror. If you like sci-fi, you definitely need to watch at least the first two films.

The Shining is a mainstay classic of course, wife and I watch it every October. Stanley Kubrick was a master of his art medium.

Event Horizon (for those who can stomach gore) is good, I could only view it while almost blacked out on etizolam lol. Good blend of sci-fi/horror as well.

And though not a film, Twin Peaks is a fantastic Fall classic. You either like it or you don't, I can't even describe it well. Fans of David Lynch stuff should like it, especially Fire Walk With Me and The Return (season 3).

I don't think any of those are on streaming services at the moment, I just have them all on hardcopy. Twin Peaks might be on Netflix for just the first two seasons, the rest is probably on HBO Max. The Lighthouse might be on Prime, it was last month.

Edit: Oh, The Thing (1982) is also a good October flick. Classic alien horror style with a unique twist. Also not on any streaming services I know of, I watched it on my friend's Vudu account.

The Platform was a trip. Watched that movie 3 times.

Some great movies in here mate!!!
However......I have tried to watch The Witch several times and I hated it each time and remembered halfway through each time why I didn't like the previous time :( Literally nothing happens.

@ creamgravy; The Thing, was a masterpiece of old school horror. Yup.🔥☠️

Most by Del Toro, are imaginatively great, horror/novel subconscious scary.

Like this analysis;

Going to re-iterate davorcet22, with:
If you like:

(Poltergeist III, is also, good! 🙂)

Check out Sinister. It's the only way to get scared watching it. Probably the scariest horror movie I've ever seen. Also on Soap2Day where there is high quality where you can see all the scary details. Throughout the whole movie you can feel the tension. And in some moments there is a slight pressure on the psyche. The creators did a great job with the stark shots. I was kind of torn when the screamers came out. The plot of the movie does not drag on a bit. By comparison I can say - "Astral", "The Paranormal Activity" (all parts) and even "The Stop" and "The Wrong Turn" (all parts) are at least 2 - 3 points behind this movie on a scale of 10. The film amazes with its originality as the plot and combination of such genres as - Detective, Horror, Mystic, Thriller. And in this case we can say that this is not one of the cheap horror flicks. Which are now being produced at the speed of Chinese car assembly. But a full-fledged horror movie. In which the director and operators as well as the actors themselves have done no small job.

OMFG I cannot believe I didn't mention Sinister!!

It is my favourite horror movie. I have watched it so many times because if someone I know hasn't seen it and wants to watch a good horror movie, I sit them down and make them watch it haha.

If you like horror/thriller movies, just watch it. It's fucking awesome.

Have you seen all three parts? I've only watched one so far. I'm afraid to watch the rest. Are they connected in any way?

1. Host
2. Fantastic use of a ‘zoom meeting’ call to great effect horror wise.
3. Shudder

1. Trick r Treat
2. Great anthology horror flick with an iconic villain (cute though).
3. Have to rent/buy it off any popular streaming service or Popcorn Time/Tubi might have it.
