^ it's all good kenickie, I did chose to ignore your warning after all =D <3 You may want to change the warning slightly though as one of the chars you mention is definitely still alive and kicking halfway through book 3.

noted, amended! i've decided to start re-reading book one, see what i've mixed up with other books and what not.

OMG Episode 8 had a penis but no titties! Season first just thought I'd let everyone know.

My group of 8 that watches the show every week drinks as long as there is a nipple on the screen. Last episode was disappointing but I guess it makes up for episode 7 with the porn scene which got us all trolleyed.

i'm completely obsessed with this show.
but i don't want to start reading the books too soon, because i did that with true blood and now every little thing that is changed makes me pissed and i don't like the show as much.
so i don't wanna ruin this awesomeness haha.

also, just read through this entire thread. interesting stuffff.
dany is easily my favorite character. along with ned stark <3 i want him to be king wah. and arya. and jon the bastard. and the midget.

i really love HBO casting as well, always full of beautiful people.

the effort they put into the sets and costumes is phenomenal too, you can tell exactly what area they are within seconds.

as far as the plot goes, SO interesting. i really can't tell what's going to happen next. but i loved how it started off right with that feeling of urgency/anxiety. like the whole realm is on edge and you know A BUNCH of shit is about to go down, but not quite sure how/what.

the queen, i love to hate her. she's such a bitch, but damn is she beautiful and cunning.
dany+khal, i'm starting to LOVE. obviously the way HBO presented their relationship initially was pretty warped, but i'm really realllly loving them. the way he calls her "moon of my life" and she him "my sun and stars" so presh. and the fact that he cut open a guys throat and ripped his tongue out for calling her a foreign whore is legit. i just can't wait for them do swoop in on what will by that time all ready be a full-fledged war and be like FORGOT ABOUT US MOTHERFUCKERSSSSSS and just slaughter everyone.
i have a sneaking suspicion that when she has her baby that one (or all) of the dragon eggs are going to hatch and they're really gunna fuck some shit up.

hmmm. i also really liked this line from rob stark "tell lanister that winter is coming for him. 20,000 northerners coming south to see if he really does shit gold" so far i'm not really loving his character too much. maybe they don't give him enough face time or something. but jon>rob anyday.
also bothers me to no end the whole bastard nonsense. HIS FATHER IS A FUCKING LORD, why is that not good enough? WHY. (also he looks a lot like this guy i fell for last summer, just a taller, thinner, longer-haired version. lolol, so maybe i'm partial to his character. really the resemelance is uncanny

i wish that picture he wasn't wearing the sunglasses, he has like the same eyes as the actor as well..anyways)

sansa sucks.
geoffrey sucks.
arrya is legit. i want her to do some awesome shit.
bran is sort of irritating at this point but i'd be a miserable bratty little shit too if i all of a sudden became a cripple.

UHM, that's all i have to say at this point.

definitely will be coming into this thread more haha.

sorry if this was all TL;DR, i just watched the most recent episode and got all excited =D

Is this show really as good as everyone says it is? I'm not a fan of Fantasy in general and I have no tolerance for shit. Should I check it out? Is this a show for Fantasy fans or just people in general?

^
I'm not a fantasy person either; hell, I'd have never read LOTR if I hadn't liked the movies so much, and I have no plans to crack the Potter series. I hadn't heard of this series (let alone the books) at all until a few weeks before it came out, and that was only due to scuttlebutt on various boards. But, I will say that what I've seen so far is amazing, and I plan to avail myself of the books once the season ends. Note that the fantasy elements (at least so far) are pretty muted; I'd call it much more of a political thriller in a fantasy world rather than "high fantasy" proper.

I've read it once (years ago) and am now reading it again slowly (on book 2 now) and can say that the changes and differences aren't bad at all. I feel that HBO has done a fantastic job and it's actually fun to see what things they've had to do differently to make it work out. Conclusion: Read the books!!! :D

It's all about the line of succession. The power of the nobility comes directly from being able to say 'I'm the son of X and Y.' If a birth takes place outside of marriage, then there's a lot of potential for the true parentage to be blurred, not to mention the problems with then determining who inherits what.

In the books, there's a lot of mention of a previous king who legitimized his bastards on his deathbed, leading to a massive war for control of the kingdom.

yes, as i've been re-reading, i'm struck with how exactly the same the book/tv show is. i'm about 100 pages into book one again, and seriously, the only thing they've changed is everyone's ages -- bran from 7 to 10, jon snow from 14 to ----??? Robb from 14 to ----??? etc etc. but i mean everything is word for word. When Tyrion goes and has breakfast with his family and Jamie and Cersei are obviously disappointed to know the boy will live, etc etc. I guess another difference is -- in the book Jon Snow is kind of just pushed out into the Night's Watch when Catelyn refuses him and Ned can't take him, in the tv show he's more aggressive about it.

haha i eventually will, probably going to wait another season though

i seee, still a little upsetting though. he's got such a good heart :\

oh and something random, with all the inbred lanisters, wouldn't they be like...mentally retarded? and deformed. i figured that's why the one lanister is a midget, but i thought that geoffrey should be a lot more...fucked up. i mean, he is the offspring of twins, that's a lot of messed up genes going on there lol. is there any indication in the books of the children of cersei and jaime being screwed up? or are they somehow perfectly functioning humans haha

A really good point! I'm going to steal this idea for discussion when my GoT watching session comes up.

The only inbreeding is between Jaime and Cersei, which doesn't affect Tyrion (the dwarf) since he's their brother and not their son.

I'm no geneticist but I think it usually takes multiple generations of inbreeding to significantly increase the chance of deformity or whatever.

It's also not earth so our earthly rules don't apply. Thar be dragons afterall.. :p

(The Targaryans bred brother to sister for like hundreds of years)

tommen & mycella are both "soft" and kind of simple. girls can get away with being kind of stupid, but there are conspiracy theories that say tommen's 'softness' is one of the reasons that cersei falls. jofferey is the only one that is 'normal'. the targs also have a history of inbreeding, and it's apparent (the Mad King really is Mad, his bloodlines are too close). the imp has nothing to do with it, as he is the brother of the twins, not son.

Where have tommen and mycella been?

After tonight's episode my mom and I were yelling at the tv. :\
I can't wait to see Joeffery die.
Tell me it happens and tell me it happens SOON keni!!
I hate that kid. He is such a douche. I can't say that enough.

I love Tyrion.
I feeeel for Dany so much and I am so rooting for Jon Snow.
I want the Stark's to get revenge and Jon and Dany to find happiness......
Oh, and in talking about the Stark's I'm not including Sansa- she's so annoying.

The targaryens also started going batshit crazy, so I'd say that supports the idea that incest in Westeros works much the same as incest in the real world, personally.

wow what an amazing episode! best of the season.

spoilers for just the show

NSFW:

This whole episode was far and away the best of the series, everything went together so well and was amazing.

One of (if not THE) most moving moments for me was Aemon Targaryen describing his 'trial' to Jon Snow. Aemon is just the 'blind' brother of the Night's Watch for so long, that it was shocking to see his face contort and grimace as he described knowing the Targareyn house was falling, the murder of his entire family, the overthrow of his royal house, etc. He's the last Targareyn in Westeros, and I feel for him.

I'm glad they focused on Arya & Ned during the execution at Baelor. That could have been a totally messed up thing, but they did it perfectly. From Ned & Arya locking eyes to Yoren nodding in agreement and pulling Arya away to the few seconds before Ned died. It was wildly tense and emotional and riveting. I simply cannot get enough of it. Perfectly, perfectly shot, timed, everything. From the swing of the sword to Arya's gasp and the flying birds. Killing me.

Although I hated her character in the book, I have to applaud Catelyn Stark. She learned from her mistake and this time made sure Robb got the right Lannister brother. I am excited for Jamie to play out now, because this is the time when he really gets his due as a character and grows, his time as a prisoner with the wolves. I almost shouted out in relief when the horses started bolting through the trees toward her, and her audible shriek of delight that her son still lived. As I said, this episode was FUCKING REAL.

I wish Dany got more time this week. I assume that next episode will be all hers, and we know why. ;)

Tyrion was the main player though, and his story telling of Tysha was fucking heart wrenching, and you could see it in his face. We met Shae for the first time, and I tell you, I'm already sick of her. Peter Dinklage is doing a great job so far! I watched this episode with PB's brother who knew nothing of the book, tv show, anything, and we were all laughing at Tyrion's witty comebacks and snarky one liners. oh Tyrion. what a great character.

random side notes:

Ugh, Walder Frey. Disgusting. Perfectly acted, however. Totally disgusting. Cool addition to the opening credits though, did anyone else notice that? The Twins get a 4 second glance and bridge over the Trident.

Bill Nighy is credited in this season as The Mad King and has yet to appear. Perhaps as a flashback of Jamie's? We've only got one episode left so it has to be.

i wanted to write so much more but i just watched the preview for episode 10 (Fire and Blood) :
