Addicts Read This - Vivitrol approved for Opioid Addiction

the other day i reluctantly recieved my first shot. i am getting it for both alcoholism and opiate addiction. just my opinion i feel as if the injection has affected my obsession for the need to get high or drunk. i still want to use but the obsession isnt nearly as strong, mainly i think because there is no point in using, but secondly because the drug is doing what it is supposed to. i have noticed some of the other things in my life that i compulse over and obsess over have kinda hit the back burner. hmm it sucks i cant get high but maybe this full month of knowing i cant get high is helping me realize that normal people dont revolve their lives around a buzz.

good for you bOrPaIdAlTeEyS

I saw a clip of Sanjay Gupta with a guy who was addicted to oxy then tried the shot -- he was the exact same way. He didn't expect the shot to work at all, but he said it destroyed his urge to get high, and he can live his life normally without obsessing about getting an opiate in his system all the time

I think that is the actual potential of this drug -- I mean not being able to get high for a month is one thing, but showing a person they can live their live happily sober is entirely another..

i'll find the clip if anyone is interested its on CNN

getting past the physical withdrawals is the easy part by a fucking longshot. its the cravings that lead to relapse, and thats what this does (at least for some people) destroys cravings

While this could be a great way to kick-start people getting clean, there's a lot more to breaking the abuse cycle than simply not using a DoC. My concern is that doctors may become lazy and keep giving people the shot indefinitely without arranging the kind of supportive stuff which helps people break out of their old lifestyle and create a new one - which would be its own special kind of hell.

I can also see this becoming court ordered down the track.

I'm seriously considering getting on this shot.

I've been in and out of rehab for heroin several times over the past 3 and a half years. My habit has never been huge, but it has always been dangerous. I do really stupid things to get drugs and I have no willpower to say enough is enough.

I tried suboxone, but had too many side effects. I tried oral naltrexone for a very short period of time, but I just stopped it on my own because I wanted to get high.

I'm on the oral again (only 12.5 mg because my doc was concerned I was too close to my last use date), but we talked about getting the shot.

I am really concerned with the blocking of natural endorphins. I have suffered from depression for longer than I have been addicted. They have me on antidepressants, but they tend not to work.

Thomas “TJ” Voller, a 29-year-old recovering addict in Westborough, Massachusetts, who has been clean for nearly a year with the help of Vivitrol, says the drug saved his life. “I really was skeptical. But within the first day of getting my injection, the cravings literally went away. Now, they're non existent.”

TJ Voller, the addict who was touted during the Vivitrol marketing, died Nov.1, 2010, less than one month after the CNN interview. Don't know whether it was suicide, OD, or what.

vivitrol question

I made an appointment to recieve the vivitrol shot and I keep seeing that its suggested for patients to be completely clean for upto 7-10 days. I am wondering what would happen if the last time u used Either subs/H was 4/5 days prior to getthing this shot??? Does any1 know the side effects if I were to still get this procedure done. Sunday will be the last day I used a sub, and I am scheduled for the vivitrol shot Thursday Mid-day. Has any1 been in this same prediciment as myself!!! Kinda don't know what to do, the last time I used was tonight and I need at the least 2 days of subs...to kick this habit. I feel like I'm so screwed. Can anyone give me info???? They say u go into a withdrawel remission if u aren't completely clean 7-10 days, if so how long is the remission...but then again I'm thinking....Everyone talks, and people tend to embelish the truth, right?????:\
