Has a friend ever tried to convert you to Christianity?

If you don't believe Jesus Christ died on the cross, is the Son of God, etc., then you clearly don't want anything to do with God?
as a comedian, i want to know what kind of thinking leads you to suspect that somebody who doesn't believe in jesus also doesn't believe in god.

Just last friday my friend harrassed me into going to her youth group. She said it wouldnt be all talk about god, we would be watching a movie. She really wanted me to go so i went for her sake. Because it was my first time attending i had to fill out some card with my name and phone number, and there were little options to check off like if i wanted emails from the church or if i wanted to volunteer.
The last option was 'pray for me' and i didn't check it off.

Bhahahahaha....sounds like you were led there under false pretenses. I'm glad everyone has given up trying to convert me. However most of my family on my moms side are hardcore christians to put it mildly. They always tell me there praying for me. It is a strange feeling I know.

Yes my fellow humans, what we all share in essence is not life, but all of the negative byproducts of existence!

Send your money to GOD before he kicks your ass!
(Yeah but It's because he loves you) LOL

Yes , that all sounds like a game I don't even wanna play. The whole original sin concept is deranged

SececaRD did you really mean that or were you trying to be funny?. I know thats how the story goes

I personally consider a high tolerance for uncertainty to be one of the most precious and useful traits a human being can cultivate in this life. In fact, I think that not working to cultivate such a tolerance is a poor allocation of time in this world. Uncertainty is the only guarantee, after all.

Hmm. I think that a general skepticism is healthy, and that we need to continually question our knowledge. But I also think that it's important to develop a solid theoretical framework of the universe, which we can, until further refinement, assume to be the ultimate truth for the sake of optimizing our actions.

Then again, it is probably very easy for me to say that because I have an almost insatiable desire for uncertainty-- not knowing the true nature of the cosmos does not bother me. In fact, I find the mystery to be exciting and it makes me feel alive.

I definitely agree. In fact, I think that it's silly to even consider the idea that we little monkeys can even grasp the essence of this fucking universe thing. Sometimes I think I get a little taste though, and it's such a rush. :D Although, sometimes I wonder if we are supposed to start to understand the universe, spiritually -- like, the universe is sort of a self-reflexive entity, by definition.

me i just feel like religions appeared the day the bulk of the people could not hear Him anymore.

Since posting year last month or so. A close relative has tried to canvert me on several occasions. Painfull to say the least.

Yes. A complete stranger (not a friend) tried to "convert" me while I was waiting for my car to be serviced. I said:

"They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
the sinners are much more fun...

you know that only the good die young"

Then the curious sound of jazz and classic rock entered their somber, droll, praising ears and they rejected it for the odds of winning the lottery after death. At least I learned to dance.

Well that least they are trying to convince adults. The real crime is parents indoctrinating their kids, who have no way of knowing better.

^^^^^ I agree. I grew up in a strict, devoutly religious hardcore christian household. I hated it and still do.

Free to believe

Seems to me quite a few people don't have many nice things to say about God or religion?

It is always disappointing to hear others say how rotten Christianity is and how those who believe are brain washed. My experience has been the exact opposite.

Have you ever considered this, what if your wrong? I am not saying you are cause I cannot give you absolute proof anyone is right or wrong. Just suppose for a moment there really is a heaven and a hell?
What might those first moments be like after we die?
We are either going to have our first glimpse of heaven and euphoria or your first genuine experience of unrelenting horror and regret.
Either way the future is irrevocably fixed and eternally unchangeable.

No one has to believe anything they don't chose to.

I have seen many homes where kids were brainwashed to do nothing and be nothing. As well as I have seen homes where religion was taken to the extreme. Funny how that is.

So conversion on account of the possibility of unrelenting horror would be a bit like making concessions to a terrorist would it not. We should convert because he will reward us well for joining and make us very miserable for resisting? Is this God of yours the inspiration for the philosophy and tactics of organized crime by any chance?

You would agree your methods for gaining converts are terrorist, would you not?

Sounds like the sales pitch involves terror to me.

Because every God has made it clear that his bad side is worse than any of us can imagine, and our bad sides is/can be justified through His(x) scripture.

Queue, cliche...What if you're wrong about the "Juju at the bottom of the sea".
I can imagine a hell, I just can't imagine who would be operating it, the devil or God. They seem to be one in the same. In the OT there was mass genocide and slaughter. All was justified by God. A few centuries later, Hitler is condemned as being the devil when he only resembled old testament texts. Deuteronomy 12:3 I don't even need to be speaking specifically about a monotheism to say each of the Gods is jealous, vengeful, spiteful, ruthless, capricious, and seductively evil
So then allow me to ask you the same question only posed as an atheist. Imagine you died, and there was nothing..You barely had enough time to realize your time was wasted spent on the knees waiting for resolve of the dice. Snake eyes. Which is worse?

It is not the followers that are evil or extreme (even if they are) it's the texts of procedure. Just the same, they are not happy and loving because of the texts and procedures. If you took out religion(x) from a very happy religious family and replaced it with religion (y) they'd probably still be a happy family, regardless.

Remindes me of the old Bill Hicks joke about standing at the gates of heaven with St. Peter and he asks did you believe in dinosaurs? Well, yeah they left fossils all over the place. Then I damn you to eternal hell fire. (Screams in backround) but it seemed so plausible.
