i thought it was great.

actually, we had free movie passes, and i didnt think it would be interesting in the least, based on the previews. i thought it would be just another shitty sci fi movie with a lot of hype. BUT, it was incredible.

i loved the political parts and the involvement of the gov't and police brutality aspects. very telling.

I was pleased to see now major hollywood names in this, IMO it would have ruined it. It was great to see it set in Johannesburg.

It was well done, to make me feel as bad as I did for the aliens in certain parts.

4/5

My only gripe is the robot suit at the end. Why wouldn't the prawns just take on the humans if they had a weapon that far superior?

Maybe because the 'prawns' wanted to get back to their planet rather than declaring all out war on another species that saved them from extinction and is keeping them alive. Going on a killing spree wouldn't have solved any of their problems. Besides which, they were relatively peaceful in comparison to the humans. For example, the autopsy room was inconceivable to them. Just because they have the techology to kill doesn't mean that they will use it without good reason. (That's more a human thing.) If the only chance of them returning to their planet revolves around small delicate containters full of that black fluid, then wouldn't they jeopardize all that by instigating a war? Although our instincts might tell us to get bloody revenge for being mistreated, it's not exactly the smart move.

I'll be surprised (and disapponted) if the story isn't continued.

Why?

^I don't like to have a definitive "Top 10" or "Top 5" list. I've seen so many films over the years that I find it impossible to rank them with any degree of accuracy... This film, however, stood out amongst the films I have seen this year. Hell it stands out amongst all of the films I've seen this decade. But it's been a pretty shit decade comparitively... Dammit now you've got me thinking too much about it and comparing it to other films, which I try not to do.

Now I'm going to have to rape your mother and eat your children.

WATCH THIS FILM!! (once :))

As a directoral debut, it is disturbingly good. Better IMO and also similar to in many ways early Peter Jackson.

Warning spolier....

You missed a major point in why The Prawn were stranded. They may have had superior technology, but they were a working class. Unorganized. Unmotivated. Not entirely bright. They were on the mothership for 3 months, starving. There was no apparent leadership.

Christopher was not of this working class. Note, his hiding of the "command" ship and his 20 years of work formulating the fuel. He was the only one to show any interest in returning home. The others were just out to survive and obtain cat food. Trading that robotic suit for 100 cans of cat food. hahaha!

Enjoyed this movie completely. More'so the 2nd time. Can't wait to see it again.

Epic fail.

It started so awesome! It was exciting , mysterious, thrilling!!

Whats going to happen??

omg this is sick, whats next??

And then...!!! ...bleh.

Wow, are you serious?

Epic fail

You've got the catch phrase already, 'Epic Fail'.

And your reviews sound like they were written by one of the chicks out of clueless, so modern audiences will no doubt lap it up.

You're perfect.

Just saw it and liked it. Don't understand why anyone would be upset with the ending. What other contrived shit do you want? And any thoughts of a sequel should be put to sleep quickly, it's perfectly fine as a stand-alone film.

About the robot weapon thing. Maybe i'm wrong, but it seemed to me that it was only powered up after the tube of fluid was used to eventually communicate with the mothership, and it was through the mothership that it was turned on.

After the mothership powered up, you can hear one of the newscasters mention that alien device all over the city are powering on.

But the robotic suit worked before the mothership was powered up. There was the scene where the Prawns walked it into the Nigerian camp to exchange it for cat food.

Great begining / middle... really loved the main character(hysterical to the max)...However, the ending was somewhat weak... I was also disappointed by the overt racism(in regard to the portrayal of Nigerians)
