Ever since I first entered the the world of recreational drug use, I found myself gravitating towards psychedelic compounds. Everything else I tried felt like a detour on the path towards my next trip. Until now, however, every opportunity to trip has been a hit or miss. My DOC until this point was psilocybin mushrooms, which I've found very rewarding although unpredictable and very difficult at times. Unless you grow yourself, the potency of mushrooms can vary widely and they are also usually quite expensive. I'm not interested in producing schedule I drugs and the legal risks associated. Blotter is hard to come by where I live, and the only tabs I've tried were sold to me as LSD but happened to be DOx (most likely DOB), resulting in a mostly fun but physically dangerous and unexpected 20 hour trip. LSA is a treat once in a while, but often underwhelming unless combined with other drugs such as cannabis.

Now I find myself at a point in my life when my access to psychedelic drugs has vastly expanded. I now have the opportunity to experiment with several different pure compounds at precisely measured doses. This development in my psychedelic career has resulted in a more controlled and generally safer experience. Unfortunately, I'm finding it difficult to control my usage of these chemicals that I love so dearly.

And so I'm asking for the stories and advice of Bluelight's advanced psychonauts. I'm not interested in trip reports or personal opinions of specific drugs. Rather, give a general recap of your psychedelic past so newer trippers can avoid some mistakes and minimize harm in any future explorations.

Feel free to respond as you see fit, but some questions I think would be good to answer are the following:
  • What was the extent of your usage?
  • How often were you tripping at the peak of your psychedelic usage, and how long did this last?
  • What were some of the major mistakes that you made, and what were the consequences of these mistakes?
  • What were the most important things that you learned from your experience?
  • Finally, if the present you could speak to yourself at the beginning of your psychedelic career, what advice would you give?

I'm asking for serious responses and to keep the dicksizing out. Thanks for reading.

This happened to me when i started raving....

I started with 1 psych source who's reliability went downhill towards the end when the acid dried up in this state...

the 2c's are gone because the main source moved to california...

molly and LSD are always doable, mushrooms are not hard to come by, DMT should be obtained eventually.....

You just have to keep yourself in moderation....

The only thing i regret in my psych usage would probably be going through the pain of snorting a little bit of 2c-b... Imagine if you will doing a 10mg bump of something, looks completly innocent but 2c-b has a reputation for being painful so you hesitate before doing it. And when you do finally do the bump your first thought is "well that wasn't so ba..... HOLY FUCK IT FEELS LIKE I GOT PUNCHED IN THE FACE!" 5 minutes later your face is swollen up and red, your fighting back the urge to puke and already tripping face... You try snorting water but it does very little...

2c-b is about what you would think pointing a can of mace up your nostrils and shooting it up there as far as pain goes....

I regret nothing else, i like who i am right now and in the end its your experiences that make you who you are. Your question lies in wanting to know if you will like the person your experiences turn you into... And in the end, that answer lies with you.

First, space out your full blown trips (i might put short acting psychs in another regime). You need to integrate what transpired, get your mind thinking clearly again. My personal experience was that I needed 2 weeks minimum to be prepared for the next flight. I would feel flaky, feeble minded, somewhat dissassociated if the frequency was more than 3 times in a month.

Even then you may need to take a break for a fews years because at least for me the magic went away when I was regularly tripping. I stopped looking for it (acid) and I would only do it when it found me eventually. Then eventually I got tired of all the introspection and all wanted to do was get loaded and high.

But...., I'm here to tell you that even though I missed out on all the Ecxtasy years raising a family and such, I am back in the game and although I haven't been able to come across the sacrament (acid), I have revisited edge city several times over the last few years through other vessels.

I will add though, I found something happened to my subconcious the one and so far only time I went into DMT space. I can't remember consciously of being that scared but I'm still almost having pavlovian responses even thinking about another extraction. Anybody in the same boat, I really want to go there but I know I'm not ready.
Maybe another thread topic.

can't write anything right now but posting in this thread to remind myself to do so later; epicness to ensue

Well way back when my old career choice gave me an infinite supply for a large every changing variety psychedelics as far as personal use standards I began tripping quite frequently.

For almost a year as far as drugs that I could use many times in a day such as ketamine, I would. I'd use serotonin agonists about 2-3 times a week.

Tripping on serotonin agonists this much was a mistake in its self. Tripping on them lost all deep and truemeaningfulness and became more of just a "psychedelic high" to do when ever tolerance would allow.
Because my tolerance was so high I became very carelessly impulsive and thoughtless about taking heroic and irresponsible doses. I lost alot of respect for psychedelics.

Eventually of course my lack of respect towards these chemicals led them to knock me on my ass and teach me a needed lesson, had to happen a few times for me to get the picture. When I look back at the time, I think of it as a time of bliss and carelessness, euphoric even when sober.

If I could give advice to myself when I just an average tripper I would tell myself to never loose respect for the chemicals I choose to use. Also an important one would be to not drive while tripping especially not all the time, as well as to avoid the legal trouble that the particular career choice entails.

Good shit guise keep it coming,

ITT: eventually you have to sober no matter how many exotic chems you recklessly abuse :(

non-guido edit: oh wait nvm heres sum moar massive lines of T7 and a side of puLOLmonary edema sweets :)

I'm kinda getting the feeling that this is one of those things every person who gets into RCs does and doesn't realize that it's one of those things that every person who gets into RCs does until said persons conglomerate on interwebs message boards.

Don't eat huge amounts of LSD and blast DMT on top of it when you're drunk as a horse. Nothing good will come of it.

^You will, however, become said horse :)

I too will addendum stuff to this ere thread when not at work- a good un IMO :)

I've had interesting results with alcohol and serious tripping but almost always it feels very wrong. Not always though.
Recently I drank a bottle of wine and joined my friend to a bar, drank some beers there and occasionally had 2 in my hand trying to keep up. Then back at home I had a puff of pretty fresh thc oil, but thanks to a sober ++++ like 2 weeks ago I now had the amazing ability to awaken a clear consciousness inside of me and pierce it straight through the fucked up ness. My balance was still a bit off due to physical effects but I could just function as though I had nothing in my system. I went outside to go for a nice nights walk and got a profound feeling during a stroll through the park. Back at home I snorted like 70 mg of DPT (second time doing it) feeling incredibly confident and trusting of my personal core. It was very nice and I was very much in control while at the same time tripping face.
This kind of thing is risky and you really need a type of awareness to keep you 'present' otherwise it can get bad.
I almost never combine alcohol with any psychotropic/psychedelic stuff at all, but at this point my main concern is the setting and not the mindset. I know what I can and cannot do.
It (alcohol combo's) feels wrong when I haven't made any effort to stay present and conscious, then the 'caveman' can cause issues to a larger or smaller extent.

Ive been tripping on and off for the last few years and have had a whole ton of awesome experiences and a few disturbing ones. Out of the hundreds of times Ive tripped on LSD my trip last summer off 20 blotters was epic. It changed me as a person and helped me overcome a lot of personal issues. That was probably my best experience with any drug.

One thing I wish I didn't do was take so much DXM for a long time. It has had a noticeable effect on my overall intelligence. This was from using it a couple times a week as a means of escape from daily life.

Mushrooms have helped me out alot by allowing me to gain a better understanding of the workings of my mind. They also provided me with some of the most powerful trips Ive had visuals in the right doses.

DMT was great I loved the short duration and intense effect. Haven't explored this one to thoroughly yet and hope to experiment more in the future.

Just got done with a few 2c's and found them to be very therapeutic if used responsibly

Try and space out your trips to once a month and you shouldn't notice any problems. The only time's I ran into trouble was when I was tripping once a week or more.

Enjoy the Psychedelic L<3Ve

I was interested in psychedelics since I did a report on LSD for health class in 7th grade. Even the school text books made it sound so fascinating.

I finally got the chance to drop eventually, reached nirvana and all that jazz ;)

That trip completely changed my life for the very, very better. One tip I'd give newbies is don't go into a trip expecting anything. If you're taking LSD, expect and LSD trip and nothing more. This is powerful shit and trust me, you can't steer it wherever you want. Not to so it's out of control and random, but it's not a chemical that's going to give you exactly what you want, just because you want it.

I got into 2C-E after a while, and that's the only time I've ever "abused" psychedelics. It was easier for me to get a hold of than even weed, since I had a large stock. I tripped weekly, for no reason. The trips were cliche, empty and boring. So another tip I'd give is, when messing with RC's (or anything for that matter, but RC's are easier to slip up with) make sure to only trip when everything is absolutely flawless. Then you get the most out of your trip, and don't trip as often because shit isn't always that convenient!

If you ever find yourself feeling isolated after a strong life changing trip, don't let the pressure suppress what you feel. People fear change, but it might be necessary. Just go with it, it's no big deal I promise. :)

I became a "Buddhist" without even knowing it, I had all these new found values and such and one day I found out: "hey! there's a religion about this!" haha, really funny. Your trips may make some startling ideas pop up in your head while contemplating it later, don't fight them unless they hurt people. Which I really, really doubt will ever happen. I've looked back at posts and emails I've made before my big LSD trip, and I was really a different person. In a bad way. I probably would've made fun of myself now, and it's a really gross feeling that I was like that.

* What was the extent of your usage?
Salvia x4; Mushrooms x3; LSD(?) once; Mescaline once, 4-AcO-MiPT x1, DOC x1, 2c-i x1

* How often were you tripping at the peak of your psychedelic usage, and how long did this last?
Once every 6 months. Lasted from ~20 to ~23

* What were some of the major mistakes that you made, and what were the consequences of these mistakes?
Smoking Salvia in a bad mind state- a bad trip.

* What were the most important things that you learned from your experience?
I learned that I could no longer live the American Consumerist lifestyle. I was introduced to Buddhism via Jack Kerouac's writings. I learned that earthly aspirations are fruitless.

* Finally, if the present you could speak to yourself at the beginning of your psychedelic career, what advice would you give?
"Are you prepared to live a harder life as the result of your drug use? Are you ready to accept the ultimate truth- that living a normal life after taking psychedelics is largely not possible? Oh, and don't smoke that Salvia out of that soda can."

[*]What was the extent of your usage?

I started tripping in 2006. I tripped twice that year, seven times in 2007, 25 times in 2008 (18 of which were summer trips), and so far in 2009 I've tripped four times. I've done LSD the most (~14x), followed by 2CE (7x). DMT isn't included in these #s.

[*]How often were you tripping at the peak of your psychedelic usage, and how long did this last?
Roughly once a week, this only lasted during one summer. I was switching up the substances between 2CE, 2CT7, 2CB, LSD, mushrooms, etc. I had an abundance of everything thanks to some good friends & the internet. Tripping this much IMHO wasn't smart of me at all, by the end of the summer all I cared about was which drug would give me the best visuals since I wasn't learning (or trying to learn) anything anymore.

[*]What were some of the major mistakes that you made, and what were the consequences of these mistakes?
My main mistake is a tendency to say "sure!" when offered a free trip, without thinking about the next day and what it all means. I exist with more anxiety & negative inner dialogue than I did at the beginning of my travels, so I have to be more careful about where I am and who I'm with now. I disregard set sometimes too, such as tripping the night I found out my car was going to have to get scrapped. And setting as well; that same trip found me falling into a creek while attempting to smoke a blunt at the T+ 1.5h mark in the middle of some woods at night. The finger I fell on still isn't 100%, almost a year later.:|

[*]What were the most important things that you learned from your experience?
Choosing the proper set, setting & dose may give one trip the power of a dozen. Snorting hallucinogens generally hurts. Some people shouldn't trip. Always be near music. Your ideal dose is not someone else's. Look both ways before crossing the street, and if you can't tell how fast the cars are moving, wait until there are none in sight.

[*]Finally, if the present you could speak to yourself at the beginning of your psychedelic career, what advice would you give?
Stick to the basics. Fungi, cacti, LSD, DMT, etc. Getting scared is natural. Nature is a wonderful environment. If you see something that's not *there,* enjoy it! You're hallucinating. Remember to close your eyes at the peak, and orange juice will not make your mush hit harder.

i would say i havent yet reached the summit of my entire tripping career however i have peaked on my dxm use. It started between me and my best friend doing it recreationally while she was on probation, tripping once a week. we liked psychs since it put everything in perpective. everything was so clear and had a purpose, and we were in tune with it all. at the peak of our usage, we took over 3000 mgs in 2 and1/2 days between the two of us. i really couldnt say the magic ever went away, every trip was great, but it seemed like there was an endless amont of possibilities, and there were. One thing i learned from the experience, is that there is such a thing as moderation, and that you should never think you have control of any psychadelic, remember you are not the one who steers the direction of your trip. if i could give myself any advice, it would be never to talk to authority figures while trippin, unless you are absolutely sure of you're abilities. i lost a lot of respect from family and other people who dont understand why we trip. always know what you're getting yourself into, and plan ahead to be ready for anything. expect the unexpected, because ittcan all change quickly.... and it a;; seems to happen while we're trippin lol

Another coment i have on another research chemical....

DOM, i will never use it outside of a festival.... Its a wonderful psych in its mental effects but what i hate are the physical ones of it... Too much energy, twitchyness, etc... a 20 hour DOM trip feels more along the lines of a week... You have to find ways to not drive yourself mad, so if you do find something amusing, kill time with it, on DOM you have nothing but time...

I laid under a teddy gram blanket during the day in a tent after smoking a lot of weed with random hippies. And the sun was shining through the tent and blanket illuminating all these thousands of teddy gram bears, and that made me happy... i would close my eyes for a while and be like "BEARS!!!!" and giggle hillariously... And then the sun went down and i stepped out of the tent into the night to a green sky, morphing clouds, and a bright orange harvest moon. Shit was wonderful.

* What was the extent of your usage?
i've been using psychedelics in shifting frequency for about 4-5 years now. psychedelics i've taken [in this order] are: Pot [never really cared for it], Dxm, Mushrooms, Lsa, Lsd, Salvia, Dmt, MDMA [if you count as a psychedelic], Ketamine, mephedrone [if you count as a psychedelic], Methylone [if you count as a psychedelic], DPT [the most intense experience of my life], MDA, 2c-e, and 2c-c.

* How often were you tripping at the peak of your psychedelic usage, and how long did this last?
There was a period in highschool where I was taking mushrooms once a week for a few months. after i stopped, i did lsd once, then took a break from tripping for about a year. i started again [this time much less frequently]. More recently, i have been in contact with large amounts of ketamine, and have been indulging in small binges.

* What were some of the major mistakes that you made, and what were the consequences of these mistakes?
-Mushrooms are very intense, stick with a low dose your first time.

-higher [70+ mg] DPT is not something to do outside where you may have to talk to people

-of course, SET AND SETTING...if you're planning a trip, make sure you have a place to go.

these have given me a number of unpleasant, but overall worthwhile experiences.

* What were the most important things that you learned from your experience?
"appreciate life as it is. the emotional ups and downs will always be there, but i have the personal control not to let the downs destroy me."

* Finally, if the present you could speak to yourself at the beginning of your psychedelic career, what advice would you give?
"Take it slow...a monkey could eat a pound of mushrooms a day, but that doesn't mean it would necessarily get anything out of it."

"and GO OUTSIDE, the world is beautiful...don't trip in your room!"

Excelent thread! I'll get back to you with details when I have more time...

* What was the extent of your usage?

On and off for about 8 or 9 years. I was overly-enthusiastic at first, and I don't think I'm unique in that regard. Couple hundred trips on lots of various substances.

* How often were you tripping at the peak of your psychedelic usage, and how long did this last?

Oh, about weekly I'd say. I kept that up for about a year before I got bored.

* What were some of the major mistakes that you made, and what were the consequences of these mistakes?

In retrospect, a lot of my tripping was just experimentation. I was curious about new compounds and wanted to see what they would do. And for a long time, that's basically what I got out of my experiences -- I knew what substances did. I knew them very well, but I was just using myself as a lab rat. Not interesting!

I've learned to actually use psychedelics in constructive workshop-type environments these days, among close friends and with fairly structured plans and goals. I find this way of doing things to be far more rewarding, and a hell of a lot more interesting. Trips are much further apart, dosages are higher, and combinations are more, hm, .. potent. And selected with more forethought.

* What were the most important things that you learned from your experience?

love.
everything.
love everything.
this is a really unfair question. :)

* Finally, if the present you could speak to yourself at the beginning of your psychedelic career, what advice would you give?

I'd say, "STICK TO THE PLAN. THAT MEANS DON'T USE YOUR CELL PHONE. FOR FUCKS SAKE DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE."

I'd also say, "THOSE 5-SUBSTITUTED TRYPTAMINES ARE NOT PLEASANT AND THEY DO NOT AGREE WITH YOU."
