Completed Prescription pain medications

Quite a few have been asking about the aim of the study. The first page of the survey provides a little info:

On that page is also the name of the Principal Investigator as well as the funders.

The purpose of this study is to learn why and how people use prescription drugs for non-medical reasons, such as getting high or getting through the day

There is no where in the survey that asks why you do prescription drugs...

I was going to say the same thing...You asked me what I use and how I use it, but you don't ask me why. People use these for different reasons and a survey about this might make sense, but I just don't get the point of a survey that only asks "Do you use pain meds to get high", "What pain meds do you use to get high?" and "How did you acquire said meds?" Seems fishy to me...

I agree with the OP who said you should also post this somewhere like WebMD for a less bias answer queue.

But thanks for the donation.

Advertising the survey on WebMD would only make sense if the researchers are trying to get a prevalence estimate related to a more general population. I'm not sure if this is their aim (though I don't know any more than anyone else about their aims!). I know that, for my research survey, I advertised on Bluelight because I was hoping to access people who read and wrote about drugs online, so I didn't want/need to advertise it in more generic bulletin boards.

So, what exactly are the goals of your research? Or would saying that have an effect on the surveys? Also, how much of a donation are you planning on making? And what's the deal with the two xs in Inflexxion? ;)

Send them a PM or an email to the aforementioned address if you have any questions.

I just wanted to say that I really liked how this study and the other study appear on top of the page. Many more people will end up taking it solely because of that. I'd love for that space to be used in the same way in the future. I took both the surveys by the way.

I took it, not sure why.. and kinda made me paranoid lol

I guess you don't really care why I am taking meds though, because you didn't ask in the survey...

Hi Bluelighters,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to the survey, and thank you for your questions and insight. We do have other measures that we're comparing this survey against, and we're taking all of your comments into comsideration, that's why we welcome all of your feedback. Inflexxion is taking into account the population of Bluelight as opposed to a population that would be found on WedMD, since we are specifically looking for the opinions of recreational drug users. I'll looking into the issues that you've all been having with the survey regarding the mechanisms for asking about the favorite and anything else that has been identified. Inflexxion has a good relationship with Bluelight and anything we can do to keep that, we'll do. A lot of the questions that have been raised can be found on the consent form, which I see some of you have quoted. If you have any other suggestions to make our research more meaningful, we would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Katie
