you could probably have seen any of those films in that state and said the same thing :\

I'd agree with the exception of Hook. Hook is a good movie for every occasion. I'm convinced. ;) :)

i'm confuzzled and it'd take too many words to explain why, so i'll leave it. :)

*smiles and nods @ amez*
mmmmm...uh-huh

Never saw it. But if it as bad or worse than AI, I am surprised he is still making movies.

Well, I like AI.
1941 isn't so much horrible as it is just an absolute mess and it completely fails in its objective of being a comedy.
It has a few things going for it. It was one of only five movies to feature John Belushi is a lead role. It has some visually impressive set pieces. Great cast of character actors.
Might have been better as a John Landis movie.

Opps I read things wrong. :D

In that case, yeah, I bet Schindler's List would be fucking amazing coming up on MDMA. ;) <3

^nah, it would've been best on strong psychedelics during a meth comedown ;) 8o

^AI pissed me off because it had Spiegburg's irritating need to package the movie up nice and neat for all the mouth breathers in the theatre. See also, Minority Report.

are you referring to the last part?

minority report was quite a bit of a disappointment after my love of AI. i had high expectation with a dick story.

Yeah, it felt like tacked over-explanation in the usual Spielburgian way.

funnily though, most of the mouth breathers still didn't understand

Gah, I went with Schindler's List. Munich and Close Encounters...close behind. Then about 10 others close behind again. Really gotta admire Close Encounters, not the least because after 30 years on, the mother ship is still awe-inspiring.

Now, I really try hard not to bag anyone's movie tastes, but I don't understand how anyone can vote for War of the Worlds.

This would be very very hard for me to pick just one, but because I had to, I chose ET. It isn't fair because I haven't seen some of them, such as Schindler's List (I know, wtf, this movie is NEVER on tv and I know no one who has it and I don't really rent or buy). But yeah, ET is such a classic, I truly love it and enjoy it every time I see it, always makes me want to cry at the end when he goes home. :)

Edit- Close Encounters is a close second.

Schindlers list, Jurassic park, Raiders, E.T, Jaws.....so hard to choose!

I'm going to go with Catch Me if You Can though. To me the movie had incredibly boring subject matter, but good acting and great direction made it great. One of my all time fav's.

I know I'm probably gonna get mercilessly mocked for this, but I loved 1941. Probably because I remember seeing it in the theater as a child. It's not fine cinema by a long shot, but it's got it's moments.

IP, you forgot to include Duel, his first film.

And it's "Amistad". ;)

I voted for Jaws. It is so much more than just a shark movie. It defined the summer blockster as we know it! Peter Benchley had gone on record years later as stating that he regrets writing the book. That sharks should be far less feared than they are.

Stephen Spielberg's Jaws, which hardly ever showed the actual shark because of mechanical malfuntions, is solely responsible for instilling fear of sharks in the hearts of millions to this day. Over 20 years and it still generates a new phobia for those watching it for the first time. That is powerful movie making.

For me it came down to saving private ryan and jurassic park. I saw Jurassic Park in theaters and it was pretty intense as a 5 or 6 year old. But I ended up voting for Saving Private Ryan

I would have to say Jurassic Park, it was such a great movie and I still enjoy it. I like it too because i remember my dad took me to see it and that was very rare. It brings back good memories when i see it. It was also my first PG-13 movie I saw in the theater

my memory of jurassic park was i was at school camp (year 11) and someone had it on a bootleg japanese vhs tape before it was released and we watched it on a tv.
