Short term but high dose benzo use help

So I have been abusing benzos for about 12 days. I have taken anywhere from .5 - 4mg of alaprozam a day... Mostly the higher doses 3-4mg. Stupid I know. I was completely uneducated and had no idea what I was getting myself into. My Dr put me on it short term for my anxiety cuz my heart rate kept going up to like 110, palpitations, and feeling vibrations in my chest and it freaked me out. I was only suppose to take them as needed. But now I am so scared to stop because I'm afraid of withdrawal mostly seizures. I have about 15 .5mgs left should I taper? Can I just stop and be OK? Am I at risk for a seizure? Like I said it hasn't even been 2 weeks but really high doses.

2 weeks of use isn't enough to develop a severe dependence or anything. I think at most you'll experience a little bit of rebound anxiety, but this is certainly not enough usage to provoke seizures. It just might be a little uncomfortable. The more likely outcome is that you won't experience any perceived withdrawal, but I don't want to get your hopes up.

You probably ought to just stop. If you tapered itd probably just end up adding to the tolerance. Obviously the best answer is to ask your dr. Otherwise just stop and hope for the best.

I did miss a day here and there in between that time and my head felt funny. I felt dizzy. Normal? Or just in my head lol

I'm going to echo Keif' here. This is my experience: I have been taking Alprazolam 0.25mg very occasionally (bottle of 30, 0.25mg would last me 6 mos or so), for severe situational panic attacks for years. It's honestly the only thing that helps me personally when that hits. Then, a few years ago, I went on a 10 day "vacation" to Yellowstone for an in-law family reunion FROM HELL. Long story short, my mother in law is a narcissist with borderline personality disorder and she invited my mom, who also has the same diagnoses (what are the damn odds I'd get TWO!?), without speaking to me first. I wasn't on the best terms with my mom at the time. We live close enough to drive and of course my mother had to go with us on that 7 hr drive. Add my moronic, just like his mom, bro in law/wife with 4 MONSTERS (I love most kids, this is no exaggeration), 2 other siblings/spouses and 7 more kids, my husband and I, and 2 crazy moms in ONE large cabin for 10 days. I started empathizing for The Donner Party. Anyhoo, before I left, my doc upped my dose to 0.5mg and gave me 60 tabs, in anticipation of this shit show. I was popping every time my eye twitched or I felt generally homocidal (every 3 hrs). By the time I got home (nearly HITCH HIKED from Jackson Hole 2 days before), all but 6 were gone. I didn't take any the next day, because I didn't need it, but I realized I may be dependent because I had headaches and felt generally sick. No seizures or anything like that, I tapered quickly in 3 days. I just took 0.75mg day 1, then 0.5mg, then 0.25mg and stopped for awhile. If you do feel sick, and are concerned, try that. If you feel like you have an addiction, benzos can get dangerous. Switch to something like Hydroxizine or Vistral (propanol). They're also good for allergies, but are non habit forming. Good luck!

So I genuinely have an extreme anxiety disorder and ran out of my Xanax scrip because my psych left the practice he was at and went to another county in the middle of my treatment without telling me! So I had no choice but to ask for some help from a friend. She gave me some Restoril (Temazepam) which I had never even heard of before. I took 2 capsules and I felt well immediately. I was high as a kite! Xanax never gives me that high, euphoric feeling. It just gets rid of my anxiety. But for anyone wondering, Temazepam totally blows Xanax out of the water.

You received some on point advice from some well known, reliable BL regulars. No one can tell you any more they already have. It's good sound advice.

Stop now, while you only have two weeks going. If you feel discomfort it will be minimal. Good luck.

I don't take myself for having the absolute answer to every issue you might face, but you can take my advice on this subject as definitive. You should stop now. I didn't want to minimize the situation, but I think in the process I made my point vague. You will not face any issues if you cease your Benzodiazepine use this day. Seizures will generally only occur in:

A. Individuals on a higher dosage than you are and

B. Individuals who have been using Benzodiazepines for a longer period of time, at least months if you ask me.

It is very likely that nothing at all will happen when you cease.

It's safe for you to stop. If you get rebound anxiety, just do a fast taper over only a couple days and then you'll be fine. And when I say fast taper, I mean like 2 tablets to 1 tablet to a half tablet to stopping. Drawing out quitting for fear of physical withdrawal won't do yourself any favors and your best bet is to quit now.

You are always at risk for siezure when you stop benzos cold turkey. My boyfriend has had 2 grand mal siezures from benzo withdrawal. It's really scary. Are you completely out of benzos? I would say you should go to the ER if you're really freaking out. They will help you and medical professionals don't judge. You are not alone. I'm here for you, even if it's just for moral support. We have all been where you are now. Hang in there hun *hugs*

I may be wrong but I really dont think telling him to go to an ER is helpful unless he's having bad withdrawal symptoms such as high HR, High BP, shaking, sweating, etc. Even then he has some pills left to use. Think about it. Hardcore alcoholics are withdrawn using high dose benzos for a similar amount of time maybe a bit shorter and they usually turn out ok. Someone who has abused their GABA receptors for only 12 days is very unlikely to experience something life threatening.

BurritoJimmy and keif are right on this one. You're better off stopping now and doing a quick taper if you need to than draw out your usage any longer

Thanks I am still having a lot of anxiety but I have 2 toddlers that are very rambunctious today so maybe that's why lol. Anyways I've only taken 1mg today... I'm not gonna take anymore today... And maybe just .5 tomorrow then stop the next day. Is that too fast? It has only been 2 weeks but like 4mg a day because my anxiety has been crazy. I actually was put on a heart moniter a week ago so I'm freaking out over that too. (Cuz my hr is high) so every time I feel weird I think I'm gonna die or something lol just anxiety I guess.

Someone help please. I know everyone said it shouldn't be too bad for me to stop but I have only taken 1.25 the past 2 days and my anxiety is killing me! Hr at like 120 I'm scared is it gonna get easier? I only have 7 .5s left and if it's this bad now I can't imagine how bad it will be when im out. Any tips?

Get kava if you can. It won't get you fucked up like benzos, but it can relieve mild anxiety and take the edge off more severe anxiety. Lots of people have used it to help taper off of GABA agonsists (like benzos). It's not addictive.

It sounds like your experiencing rebound anxiety, and I would bet that the heart rate is related to that. Draw out your taper a little longer if you need to. Lorazepam has a short half life relatively speaking, so WD or rebound symptoms will be a little more intense but shorter than most benzos.

Help me out here, but you said you had 15 tablets two days ago. That would mean that you've used 8 tablets or 4 mgs over the last two days... not 1.25.

What happened?

My tablets are .5. I used 2 and a half each day the past 2 days so I used 5 in 2 days. I still have some left.

I think I used the other ones the day of my original post. I took 4 mg that day maybe I used them after I posted. I can't remember what time I posted but I've been writing down times and amounts since Wednesday night. so I know I took 4mg Wednesday(did not write times this day cuz I wasnt planning a taper schedule yet), 1.25 yesterday, and 1.25 today.
