Gabapentinoids Gabapentin Megathread

I wanted to say glad you are feeling better too cj. Thanks for coming back updating and closing out. Lesson learned for all of us.

I am prescribed Neurontin for nervepain, but nervous to take them. About 3 years ago I was on Lyrica 300 mg a day for the same thing. They helped me a lot with both nervepain and anxiety, but hell to come off after just 6 months. I did not experience much side effects from Lyrica exept from a bit weight gain and loss of short term memory. When I started taking Lyrica I began at very low doses, as low as 25 mg and worked my way up to 150+150. The Neurontin is 300 mg and I'm adviced to take them three times a day. Are both Neurontin and Lyrica about the same when it comes to side effects and effects? I am scared shitless to throw up ? I only got Neurontin because I can't afford Lyrica and have to give this a try. Not looking to get high, but from what I can read most people do ? Just want to ease the pain without feeling drunk, high or get nasty side effects. Please help?

the drug can have both stimulating and depressing effects, which do you want

its the type of drug i consider adding to a better one for different effects

I want them to ease my pain in my lower back and neck. Can't use much other stuff as I am reacting with side effects from many painkilkers. I am a CYP2D6, CYP2C9 and CYP2C19 person..... Can't do SSRI, SNRI either due to 5HTTLPR (SCL6A4)
Just want to know from anyone who have been using both if the side effects are the same. Since I tolerated Lyrica, will I tolerate Neurontin just as much?

Nuerontin dosing

Nuerontin is a great recreational drug. I take it for anxiety and bi-polar. Works wonders if I take it as directed. SWIM discovered taking a large dose first would bring on a super chatty and energizing buzz. The dose would be 3200 mg. It takes like 2 hours to kick in but last all day if you take 800 or 1600 every 3 or 4 hours after your 3200mg dose. The downfall after like two days of doing this the buzz goes away(tolerance). On the flip side to that if you don't take any for like 3 days you can re- dose and get rocked again. I have a hard time deciding if I want to do the as prescribed or dose every 3 or 4 days. This is a on going battle every month. I didn't know eating increased the absorption till today trying that now. Peace.....

have you tried the Neurontin yet? Let us know...

I'm bac km to 100 percent normal after 10 days for those who will come after me

This is a little bit old, but I'll chime in. Gabapentin (Neurontin) has a wicked broad therapeutic index. I'm not proud to say this, but I've taken grams upon grams of Gabapentin in single outings on several occasions, either due to tolerance or the intensity of my Opioid withdrawal. Myself and others are limited in our intake by the fact that acute overdoses of Gabapentin - of Pregabalin for that matter - can and do cause some pretty intense, non-epileptic, convulsive activity, ranging from loss of motor control, to full body spasms and flailing sometimes resulting in injury.

For this reason, it's a good idea to not overconsume Gabapentinoids like Pregabalin or Gabapentin, but aside from these side effects, which seem to effect only a minority of the community, these drugs are relatively safe. They're even believed to be essentially safe when combined with CNS depressants (Opioids, Benzo, Alcohol etc.), contributing in only a minor, if any, way to respiratory depression. This argument, with my references, is part of what got me my Pregabalin prescription, despite having a documented history of pretty severe substance abuse; it's practically impossible to kill myself with this shit.

Long in a short, I'm sure OP is fine now, but, acute overdose with Gabapentinoids is definitely not in the same league as say Opioids or Cocaine, so your best bet, if you think you've consumed too much, is to let someone know what's happened, just in case something does go wrong and if you notice a marked increase in negative symptoms, perhaps consult a doctor.

It shouldn't be your liver as gabapentin isn't metabolized at all and is excreted completely unchanged in the urine.

The fact that you took them over an extended period is helpful, because it allows their half-lives to kick in and elimination to occur by the time you started taking more.
i recall someone here drank their urine to re absorb the Gabapentin

How long have you been taking gaba and what are your dosing habits??

I've been taking it for a while myself and I think it's helped me a bit in my recent attempts to quit drinking

I've been taking it almost a year. 800mg a day keeps me out of withdrawal

May I ask why you took that many pills in the first place if 800mg sets you straight? Chasing a high? Seems excessive.

I've been taking neurontin sporadically for a year now, generally to satiate heroin withdrawal but also under the "hope" of recreational effects, although they don't happen every time. I've begun to stagger my dosage because I was popping up to 4-5g at a time and it just wasn't feasible anymore.

So I've notice that three things happen when I dose neurontin. Note that no matter what, it completely alleviates physical withdrawal. The only thing that remains is the fatigue, and neurontin can make that worse at times. Anyway, 1. I get the recreational effects. The drunk/staggering that is amplified by marijuana. Sometimes I get CEVs. This only seems to happen after a break in the dosing, naturally. 2. I get sort of high, but I get extremely jittery almost like I'm about to have a seizure. I've dropped and broken dishes before because of this. It's like my arms just jerk like myoclonus or something. I've never gotten a straight answer as to why this happens. 3. I get no recreational effects at all, only relief from WD symptoms. Upping the dose does nothing but cause fatigue at this juncture.

That's my experience, hope this helps. And does anyone else get the jittering?

Hi All,
I started using gabapentin four days ago to block GBL withdrawal, I used GBL 24/7 around 50 Ml per day for 6 months
4 days ago I start to take 3 x 300 and 1 x 600 Mg of Gabapentin per day ( 8 AM 300 mg , 3 PM 300 mg , 11 PM 600 mg for sleep ) , The G withdrawal gone really quickly , but now I am worried to end up in the same situation with Gabapentin, is this dosage too much ? Should I stop to take it or I have to decrease the dosage gradually ? Please help, I am really scared to have jumped from a addiction to another

Thanks

Gabapentin withdrawal seems more dependent on how long you take it for, not necessarily how high the dose is. I wouldn't worry about taking it for 4 days.... hell those dosages are comparatively tiny to the rec. doses most people mess with.

Thank for reply ,
also can anyone suggest me what is the safe gabapentin dosage for a good sleep and for how long I can take to avoid addiction ?

I never had any trouble with gaba withdrawal, in fact I've just taken 600mg from an old packet from a couple of years back, to help with diclazepam withdrawal.
It was Lyrica that was a hellish nightmare to withdraw from. GP put me on a 12 week withdrawal programme and it was still hell. I can take one or two now though and they warm me up inside so nice, I'd have over any benzo.

Giuppy, I'd recommend 1200mg for a sleepy feeling. I'm afraid they won't act like benzos or sleeping tablets...just make you feel heavy-eyed and groggy. Pop a cople of codiene too, to get you cosy.

I find that taking less gabapentin can oftentimes make me feel better overall than taking more, that is, so long as I don't continually up my dose every several days/weeks. I have a reasonable constant dose, and when I absolutely need, a small increase for a few days. Then I drop down for a few days, until in the future when I really need to take a bit more to clam down.

Update. I have experienced lower back pain along with joint pain in my ankles since the incident. I am slowly tapering off gabapentin under the direction of a doctor with the hope of being completely off it in a few months. I really feel I have done some kind of damage to my kidneys. Maybe even my nervous system? Be careful with this drug. It has a large safety margin but it seems like it will do damage in high enough doses.

I was in a bad place emotionally.
