I get so overwhelmed by bands like the grateful dead and phish. I like what I hear but there's so much out there. The problem is it's hard to keep track of what you've listened to and it's hit and miss. For instance I hate the Donna era of the dead but there are some shows I've listened to with her that are amazing. I love pigpen but there are some sets with him that are total dogshit.

They wear so many different hats. I know this is sacrilege to say but while they have some amazing live shows I've never heard any that come close to the album American beauty.

That's the beauty of chasing bands like that. Some nights are fire and some nights leave you wondering, but you don't want to miss the fire nights, so you see as much as you can in hopes that you catch more fire nights than leave you wondering nights. People that don't see bands like these will never understand, and that's okay. Also, American Beauty is one of the best albums of all time, so your statement wasn't sacreligious in the least

sick show, bro

those 3 setters from '73 were really something.

not quite as excessive as '70, though. in '70 you'd get a new riders show with jerry on pedal steel, an acoustic dead set, and two electric dead sets for the price of one ticket lol, they'd literally play all night. i couldn't even imagine how awesome that was.

^ edit a sick 70 show in roger

Grateful Dead ticket requests far exceed Soldier Field capacity

Yea, I'll eat crow here and say demand was MUCH higher than I excpected. If I get tickets, I'm going. If I dont, I'm not fucking with it.

If the shows are good they should put on a five day finally somewhere rich.

I had tickets to the last show (all that last venue) and was in the lot early.. a cab drove up outa the blue.. so i miracled a sister of mine and hopped in.. had a fucking court date to hit up north.. had been a little mouthy to a Judge over a BS underage drinking ticket.. told the man I wanted a jury trial.. he said i could not have one, i told him it was my right.. he threw me the fuck out of his courtroom telling me he would sentence me to two years if I said one more word.. lol.. yeah not the best attitude to have with a judge.. fuck i was still a spring chicken.

So I took the cab to a grey hound station in some sketch ball part of chi town.. scored a ticket and a couple rocks.

Bus broke down on the highway in milltown. Told the bus driver i had a place to be that he needed to open the door.. he started to put up an argument, but took one look at my therally show spun ass and opened the door Saying, "you crazy white boy aint nobody going to pick you up!"

Third car to pass slammed on the breaks.. hopped in with a good old boy with some muscle car and a cooler of millers.. Took me up to GB where i grabbed my rig and showered.. the good old show shower were the initial water going down the drain was not clear and the sent of sage overpowered the shampoo.

Drove all night.. caught the ferry, stashed my nugs in the bushes of the court house.. ran in in a dead shirt, shorts, and sandles, 40 minutes late, and hadn't slept if five days.. everybody was gone except the Judge..

I didn't even get the chance to say a word.

"Oh there you are.. case dismissed" *gavel crashes*

EDIT: maybe she will have my miracle this time.. if i find myself on shakedown ticketless this time..

lmfaoooooo

god i lol'd so hard at that i thought i'd shit my pants

that part where he's like "3 shows?? jerry could play 3 shows in his sleep! and probably often did!" was hilarious and so fucking true. sometimes i really wonder what jerry would make of the dead scene now.

but yeah... unfortunately at this point i really don't know if i'll be able to make it to these shows. i'm gonna try, but it just seems unlikely. if i can score tickets i'll be there, though.

i'm kinda scared this is gonna turn out to be one of those things that gets built up to the point where it's not even enjoyable anymore. like you hassle to get the tickets, hassle to get a hotel room, fight through an insane crowd and go through a bunch of bullshit, and then it just ends up being anticlimactic. if jerry were still alive then that would all be worth it, but without jerry i'm not 100% sure it is. i could probably have as much fun dropping some tabs in my living room and throwing a show on the speaker system, and it would save me thousands of bucks.

but hornsby, though..... that dude is the fucking wild card. he just could make the show totally worth it. but also then again maybe not.

i'm playing this one by ear at this point.

The part that had me rolling was when he talked about trustfarians and I just thought bago. Id go but I couldnt afford it. I do think Trey is the right choice. Jimmy herring is boring, darkstars carbon copy meh, I could never hear a Warren haynes note again in my life and be content. Phish rarely covered the dead and I feel like he will put a good spin on it with his interpretations. The amount of shows sucks but the GD has some old dudes in it that probably are not wanting to go on a giant tour though maybe a few more dates would of been nice tbh

I caught the "Hell in a Bucket Tour". Saw the Highgate, VT show in '94 and '95 with Traffic and Bob Dylan respectively. Was 18 and 19. Thought I knew everything. Best part about those shows was "Standing on the Moon". Great, great memories. I've got both of the boots. Still listen to them. Good story, neversick. We're about the same age I'd gather. I used to have a penchant for mouthing off to the man as well.

Seen Dark Star a few times. Is it me, or does the Jerry reboot look more like early 80s Weird Al?
