Henry 1/8 Episode 4: A New Dope

more honey oil mmmmm :)
such a hit for a great price, 7g of pollen hash turned into honey oil lasts much longer than the pollen ever could
the pollen is great quality too, very sticky and bendy but pure yellow/gold

Question for experienced (outdoor) growers...

I've currently got 13 plants in a temporary greenhouse affair at the bottom of the garden. They are fully into their vegetative phase at the moment and I regularly pick the growing tips off to smoke (surprisingly effective actually - I've certainly paid for worse in the past). As you're no doubt aware, everytime I pinch a tip off, two more sprout out. It's now got to the stage where there are so many growing tips that I can easily harvest a decent smoke every couple of nights. What I want to know is, is this the gift that keeps on giving, or are there consequences which later on may affect yield or potency?

The more branches you create on a plant the less energy it has to direct to each, ideally you want as few thick limbs as possible to gain the most mass when it comes to flowering..
I mean you can prob continue indefinitely if you are happy smoking that but you should really let it develop to its full potential.

Also are you going to start covering them soon as it'll take a good 8-10 weeks to flower properly and what with uk weather as it is they may wither before they finish,
Induce flowering as soon as possible :)

I think SWIY should include their address so the cops know exactly what house to raid.... saves them a little time. ;)

Did SWIM mention they were tobacco plants? ;)

(by the way, I run off mobile internet on a purely PAYG basis - don't wanna make it TOO easy fer the fuckers..)

Thanks. That makes sense. However, due to seasonal shift, it's getting to the point in the UK now that a reasonable flowering period can be attained before the first frosts. Last year I harvested in the second week of october - although the yield wasn't fantastic, it was certainly ok fer nowt =D

Maybe worth going through your plants and clipping off all the lower/weedy/popcorny branches as they are wasted energy.

Yeah, that's true tbh, didn't factor that in ;) Make sure to take pics of the harvest :D

How do you go about turning a bit of hash in to honey oil?

You grind the pollen to dust in a coffee grinder and fill a tube like you would for bho, then just spray butane through and the thc will be leached from the hash, I'd be interested in trying this to see what sort of waste comes from a 100g plate of hash

As we're on the topic of BHO, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile doing this with all my leftover leaves 'n' shit.. What about male plants? Do you think anything useful can be obtained from these?

Well, With BHO you you can only get out what you put in to begin with, So if your trim is frosty as fuck then yeah, you will definitely get oil, how much purely depends on how much thc is on the plant matter,

As for running males for BHO, I think you'd be best off saving them with fan leaves and the less sugary trim and make a big batch of butter, That's what I used to do in the past and had great results (Although, I used bubble bags not butane)

Very simplest way....

Grind it up in to powder, shake it up with some isopropylalcohol in a container for a couple of minutes, or even just a minute if you're using bud, use a coffee filter to filter off the solids from the IPA, you can give a quick re-rinse on the solids with a little touch of IPA if you want and filter in to the same container, evaporate the IPA (appropriate safety precautions), you now have hash oil.

When it's been sitting out uncovered for a couple of days:

LMFAO, if leaves are getting you stoned then you are in for a big surprise when you smoke some actual bud with trichomes on. Not really any consequenses as long as you stop doing it a couple weeks before it starts to flower or you will end up with no colas if you keep smoking the tips lol.

^Dur, no i've never smoked proper weed 8)

Yes, the leaves are shit - but the growing tips do actually work. OK, they don't get you wasted but they scratch an itch, y'know?

Never got desperate enough to dry out the tips lol, but there's been many a time I've chopped a few 6 week old flowers n oven dried em, then when the plants were fully matured I was kicking myself at how much id wasted,

just remember the more tips you create the more stalk n less buds

Yeh, I'm just too lazy to go and find a decent score again, and I'm sick of dealing with thick chavs who think an 1/8 = 2g. I'd love to be able to let them just grow without having to smoke them all the time - but needs must...

I took your advice and trimmed off the weedier stalks and quite a few shade leaves in order to let the light in lower down, and will cut down on the pinching out from now on. :)

nice one man, also if they are in pots space em out, when plants are cramped they send hormones to limit their growth n keep compact, but spread em out and they flourish, i aim to top the plants twice so there's 4 main colas then around 5/6 secondary branches, chop everything below the last thick branch internode and all the energy is directed to the thick limbs,

Also what you feeding them? you got a phosphorous heavy feed for 12/12? if you want to keep it organic i recommend bat guano (buy it online from a hydro site) eggshells and blood and bone meal, usually you can only find the meals in pellet form but if you whizz em in a blender prior to making your tea feed all is good, also a cheap aquarium pump will aerate the feed n stimulate microbiotic growth which in turn will help your crop :)

Nah, they're planted directly in the soil and are admittedly a little cramped - but then it's an unknown quantity as to how many will turn out to be males. Once they're weeded out it should open things up a little...

As for feed, just watering a couple of times a week and using a bit of baby bio once a month. Will that suffice until I start to induce flowering? The soil retains moisture quite well so I don't want to cause stem rot by overwatering.

Some nice tips there man, cheers!

ahh yeah, that's true, i never grew from seeds so i never take that into account, but yeah when you've pulled the males you should clear a bit of rootspace.

Hmm, well I wouldnt use babybio or any 'regular' nutrient as the levels are not tuned for weed, weed needs wayyyy higher nitrogen intake during veg and non existent nitrogen in flower and a load of phosphorous and potassium, i got my tea formulas on a hd somewhere, ill dig em out for ya if ya want,

as soon as you have the nutrients dialled in the growth is amazing as is the smell they pump out, even in veg! then again that could be strain dependent, what are you growing btw?

as for watering them i go by how they are, if the leaves are droopy and squishy they need watering, if they are turgid and bright and upright they are good to go.
Feed them every 3 waterings when in flower or if the plants are not that thirsty ( i've had a plant that was a freak, could leave it 3 weeks without water! handy when going on holiday for sure!) then make sure you feed at least once a week.

my plants were generally drinking around 4litres of water each (in 5gal tubs) every 5days to a week, that was under 2 1k hps bulbs though so that will raise the temps and dry the soil a fair bit.

but like i say, you gotta play it by plant
