[MUSIC] The 80's thread .... (links only please, no full video screens)

For sure, all killer no filler. Not a bad song on there, classic album that still sounds great now.

I was 10 - 20 during the 80s, so its bound to the era where i listened to most music. AFAIK i allways liked music, though my parents allways played radio 2. If thed have played more radio 1 id have been able to get into music earlier. I think they bought me my own radio cassette player when i was about 9, so with that and top of the pops i was on my way.

Early favotites included The Buggles, Video Killed The Radio Star (i think i wore than record out), Another Brick In The Wall, and Land Down Under. Ithink they are all 70s rather than 80s though. I remember the kids singing them at primary school. When we wnet to visit high school one of the kids was walking around with a ghetto blaster blaring out Dexys Come On Eileen. I thought he was cool as fuck. I was very easily impressed at the age of 10. I dont think walkmans had become common at that point, so ghetto blasters were the in thing.

Fuckin hell. Brings back memories, as does this:

Strawberry Switchblade -- Since Yesterday

i loved the bit in the middle where the music would wobble from left to right speaker. That was the most stunning use of stereo i had heard in pop music up until that point. Its 'old hat' now. But was something new for me.

Bryan Adams - Run To You

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCBASt507WA

An anthem of the 80s, pounding rock music for driving fast on country roads to. Still sounds good. Fuckin killer bassline, i think that makes the tune, gives it that extra something very special. Reckless is one of my all time favourite albums. Its in my top ten. Its not a 'cool' choice. I dont care about that.

I was gonna spread all my 7" singles collection out and take a pic of them cos i love all of them, too much hassle right now though. I sold a faie few when i was skint which is regrettable now. One of the first bands i got really into before i got into indie was Queen, I had nearly all of their singles. That collection would be worth a mint now.

I remember in school one of the older, bigger and tougher lads calling me over "come 'ere mush". Gulp, wtf have i done to him ? Nothing. He'd heard that i was a Queen fan,and asked me loads of questions about them. I knew all the answers. I was his mate from then on as i was judged to be a 'proper fan'..lol...

Music is a great way to make friends, especially at school. You tend to be judged very largely on your music taste.

Oh I got all obsessed with Bryan Adams & when Reckless came out I went & tracked down two other Bryan Adams albums. All good albums... Then came that fucking Robin Hood tune that was number one all fucking year in... what, 1991(?)... & that was it, got rid of the fucking lot lmao

yeah he lost whatever 'cred' he had for a while there. It stopped me listening to Reckless for years. I eventually forgot about that Robin Hood thing and just enjoyed the songs on Reckless for what they were; great rock tracks.
