The first robbery of a business that sells bath salts in Johnson City took place early Thursday morning when a Kingsport woman tried to hold up a head shop at knifepoint for the synthetic drug, police said.

Johnson City police were called to Above the Clouds, 4804 N. Roan St., around 2 a.m. Thursday, where Brian Spivey, who works at the store, told officers a woman wearing a tube mask and a hood pulled a knife on him and took a tray of the synthetic drug known as “Crystal Clear.”

Story here.

Man how hard up would one have to be?? Police in my area are coming down hard on these drugs.
How is it playing out in your hometowns?

If all drugs were legal and available generic bath salts would be cheap if you could easily substitute for cocaine for less. If this is anything like the synthetic weed in legality and legal use I'm assuming its not cheap like cigarettes if somebbody would need to rob someone?

Think if they made a bath salt opiate... its would be MADNESS ON THE STREETS

They must have been pretty broke, desperate, strung out or something. Are bath salts really that expensive anyway?

Reader comments under the article arent too bad either.

Make all drugs legal, then we can set up regulations so that they can only be sold at special "Drug Stores." Put them behind bullet proof glass with a guard at the door, and a licensed pharmacist behind the counter who can offer advice to his clients. Lets see how many deaths/robberys there are for drugs then.

Bath salts imo are far more dangerous than illegal drugs. I've tried them myself, very strong but weird effects. Big come up, nce euphoria, but your thought proccess on these things change dramatically. even in small doses, can make you hallicinate and see stuff you DO NOT want to see. I can't beleive they were legal to begin with.

Please stop referring to legal drugs as bath salts people.. I mean come on i expect it from the media but here?..

Sorrybut no no no no no.

There are now loads of different types of drugs being sold as bath salts.. each having different affects. You can't just put "bath salts" in one group and say they're worse than every other illegal drug..

In the UK while mephedrone (the one that seems to have caused the most fuss and fear) was doing the rounds cocaine deaths fell by around 50%..

Oh and ALL drugs should be legal. The war on drugs is and always will be one huge fail.

It's just nomenclature. If it's not confusing to read / detracting from the post, what's the issue? It's not ignorant. I would prefer to see actual chemical names, but that'll get bulky quick in an article or on here. "Bath salts" also tend to refer to the stimulant RC's, but that could be my personal look on it (I don't think etizolam when I think bath salts, I think mephedrone [pre-ban] and now 6-APB and such).

Anyhow, Roll1n - there are at least a hundred different chemicals that could make up a particular "salt" - not all of them are hallucinogenic. The only blanket statement there is that they're all psychoactive to whatever degree.

Also: dumbasses (stealing RC's, that is)..

This happened in my state though I've never been to the region of the state it happened in really. Law enforcement must be a little slower to catch on as the cops in my town raided stores for such products a month or two ago, along with incense. They even fined a store 8,000$ after they were caught selling it to an undercover even after they got all of their product taken in the initial bust.

I think all of these measures are silly to say the least.

I'm in TN too and it seems to be a county per county war. Some places are cracking down fast on Synthetics and Bath Salts faster than others. More are waiting for the state to criminalize all types (which is a stupid idea). How about legalize weed and other psychedelics instead and make real tax money instead.

What would happen if they were used as bath salts I wonder? Would a person still get high? Imagine some poor soul using them as actual bath salts thinking they were for making the bath nice and dumped a heap into their bath and soaked in it for an hour? lol.

hahaha!! i never thought of that poledriver! I'm sure they would be harmless when diluted in gallons of water, but omg if my mother started tripping balls from some bath salts i had left on the kitchen table, I don't know what I'd do! hahaha.

^ They do make opiate RCs. They're called 0-desmethyltramadol and AH-7921 (and others I'm sure I'm leaving out lol) :)
