There's no discussion where the electors come together and decide who's best for America. They vote according to whom they were pledged to vote for. They were elected to function as electors by the people because of that pledge.

In many states if they don't follow their pledge they will be replaced or punished under the law.


In 2016,rhe electoral college result was exactly as the voters voted it to be, with the exception of a few faithless electors which changed nothing. Just as no faithless electors ever have.
