Joan of Arc, Jeanne D'arc, Joan-in-the dark
When I got confirmed I chose Joan of Arc
To be my special saint
I am glad
because one day thirty five years later
I more or less jumped off
A balcony fifty feet above the ground
Which could have put me underground
Forever but did not

After being captured Joan
Threw herself from a parapet
seventy feet
70 feet
above the ground
which would certainly put
practically everyone
underground

I have looked it up:
a fall of 48 feet is usually lethal
I fell 50 feet and wrecked just a leg
Joan fell 70 feet, and didn't even get a bruise

It follows that
I knew what I was doing
when I chose Joan
Glorius, dubious, terrified Joan
Joan who recanted
and then recanted her recantation
in the face of fire

to be my patron saint

wow Thanks! Usually no-one reads my poems!

btw I recall being very impressed with a poem of yours... got any more?

Well, that's a damn shame. Your writing is worth reading, for sure.

I have many, many poems from over the years, but my creative writing processes are much slower.

I used to churn them out with reckless abandon. Now it's a miracle if I write one or two pieces a year.

I'd like to see some more ... loved your poem about the waitress with son called "Daryl" (?)

Ah, yes, Tootsie Guirrel. That was a fun one to write. It marked a first for me. After hundreds of reflective, introspective, serious poems, I finally got to the real core of my being, which is silliness.

How about something old, something new?

anything you got, I'd be glad to read ... I get a bit frustrated on this forum cos it's mostly "word association thread" and so forth, no real exchange.

I'll dig up some of my old poetiuc efforts too, if you'd care to see them. TBH I sense I am not as nascently talented with the poetry as you ... but you never know, maybe you'll like some o' my crapola ...

Be the change and all that, yeah? I plan a similar trajectory. I'd love to participate in and facilitate exchanges.

I am interested in your poetic efforts. I believe there are a unique voice and talent to be appreciated for each person, so it can certainly be subjective.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, The Maid of Orlean, so, in my mind, I'm keen to explore more, and I expect I will like it/them.
