(Western Australia) The ideology of pain killers: cruel, ignorant, mora

Honestly its get so bad people have had to resort to to having their own poppy farms for home bake morphine and opium to deal with chronic pain.

Street opiate prices for pharma pills is way to expensive but some people its their only relief from whatever physical or emotional pain they face. Unless you find a corrupt doctor who is willing to write you bullshit scripts they do exist out there but very rare to find one but i do know people who get monthly scripts of tramadol with no need for it.
Hey u in WA too?

Off topic but regarding prices, the very cheapest pack of 20 cigs is $25.
Dunno if you smoke but if you do, are they are as expensive in NZ?

I use to smoke but i quit due to the price rises a 20 pack of cigs is now like $35 but you can easily get untaxed Chinese ones from smugglers for alot cheaper in cities.

The rules haven’t changed for current chronic pain patients on long term opioid treatment! The new rules are reduced pack sizes for acute treatment And discharge from hospital. If a long term patient you are supposed to see another Dr every year for a second opinion. Doesn’t have to be a pain specialist. I get my review by another doc in the same practice. Ok it helps that mine is the practice ceo but still it can be another GP. Actually I found out I gained on the pack size rule changes. It’s this bloody confusion that’s killed 2 pain group members of mine in the past 6 months and has the asshat Drs using it as an excuse to drop patients which is illegal.

The same unfortunate situation we have here in Europe, at least in many countries. Switzerland for example banned codeine, even dextromethorphan(!) from OTC after many years of pharmacies refusing or complicating the sale of it as if capitalism wouldn't apply to them ... at the same time in CH it's pretty easy to get into opioid maintenance but other countries are very hard and straight out deny the prescription of anything stronger than ibuprofen even to some terminally ill individuals. Thought we were over such stupid ideals but obviously we aren't by a long run which is sad.

In Germany for example anybody ever labeled as an 'abuser' usually won't get even benzodiazepines or ADHD meds even if statistics say they prevent abuse of other substances in many cases. I would have had to show 12 months of clear urine samples. The same country kicks opioid maintenance folks out of the door if they show positive for anything else and has some fucked up mad strategies for addiction counseling and so-called detoxification which even today scares me off going to random doctors or seeking medical help and I know it does so for many other drug users.

Just pray that I'll never have an accident or otherwise require real pain medicine..

Things are going mad here, IMO.
Firstly, all OTC codeine was banned.
Now, all prescription pain meds have been restricted to use by people with terminal illnesses and people suffering acute transient pain, such as post-surgical.
Recently my brother had very painful surgery. The surgeon had written him up for OxyContin for post-surgical pain.
But the PollyAnna doctor on duty, who looked about 17, crossed out her senior colleague's treatment plan and informed my brother that for pain relief he was to be sent home with ... Vitamin C.

So he had to go to his GP in order to get appropriate pain relief. She prescribed 30 mg codeine tabs - fair enough - but when I got this script filled I was told that recently the government has decreed that Panadeine Forte is no longer covered by Medicare and that the "private" pricing has been increased.

They used to cost $6.80.
Now they cost about $45.

This is ideology. Also it's cruel. Also it's stupid and ignorant

Vitamin C for post-surgical pain?

Anyone had a similar experience either in Australia or elsewhere?
This is eerily similar to US, its almost as if Pain Meds was left up to WHO to decide the worlds requirements to take pain meds, but vitamin c?? thats an insult rest assured, in my younger days... those doctors woulda had a rough rest of the night had I of not gotten my pills, but alot has changed since then.

And with that follows, Overdoses as many people have no idea what they are doing when it comes to homemade morphine or poppy seed tea..

An addictive person I may be but certainly my pain issue is real (smashed knee) and my inability to source anything stronger than aspirin is making me practically housebound...

A bit of codeine would take care of it ... anyone else with a pain issue in similar straits??
There's always the drug dealer but they want so much money for Oxy, and I don't even like Oxy that much - it makes me grumpy.
So I'm boozing away, putting on weight steadily too - luckily I was underweight to start with but have gained almost 15 pounds in 3 months...face is bleary from boozing...at a loss...

I'm from Perth and finding it difficult to manage pain because of the new laws, I'm Lucky to get tramadol.

It's shocking, isn't it?

I might have mentioned this in my OP, but I have a permanently bunged knee plus no car and I have to walk everywhere ... this causes significant pain and at times makes me housebound. Tramadol doesn't do much. Panadeine forte helps but they've got new rules about panadeine forte now too - a health care card will only cover 20, and the doctors are only meant to prescribe them for "acute" conditions, not chronic issues, like my knee.

It pisses me off that OTC codeine was abolished. Remember Nurofen Plus? That would've handled my knee pain!

It seems like it's shit everywhere. I'm lucky to have a good psychiatrist who was happy to prescribe my ADHD meds, and fight in my corner for the permit if necessary, due to the government saying no no no because I'm on bupe for opioid maintenance. And he has no problem prescribing me diazepam for anxiety because he believes/trusts me when I say that I'm shit scared of tolerance stopping them from stopping my anxiety, so only use them when really needed and never abuse them (it's the only abuseable drug I've ever been actually sensible with, but this is why, and it's true). And I switched from my GP to him for prescription writing, because of the type of nonsense this thread is about.

My bupe doc, who has a good line of communication with my psych, and knows that I'm honest about what's been prescribed by him, had to prescribe my 30 diazepam (which would normallyast me at least 4 months) as being picked up 2 at a time, each week, when I pick up my bupe. Because somehow accruing a stash of them over time leads to less abuse of them than giving them to me all at once even though it was usually weeks and weeks after they were all distributed to me, that I'd be getting low and needing a new script.

Yet, when an acute back pain incident took me to the ER, and I explained to them that I have no idea what sort of treatment they would suggest (I was guessing it would be ibuprofen and some very specific stretches), but I was just out of rehab, on opiate maintenance, and hence it would be great if they could take those factors into consideration, given the risk of relapse, when working out a treatment. What did they do? They minimised any relapse risks, or problems with taking both a blocking partial opioid agonist with pain meds, and prescribed not a weak or partial opiate like codeine or tramadol, not even a slow release strong opiate like OxyContin. No, they gave me what I have come to see is the closest we have in this country to heroin in a box of pills. Instant release Oxycodone. As it turned out, there were some very good reasons why this ended up being the only viable option . But .... The system here is soooo inconsistent.

And as for removing access to any opiates at all, for certain conditions or certain groups, or doctors reverting to "hmm, I dunno, maybe ibuprofen is too strong for this terminal cancer pain", there's a huge elephant in the room. The real reason for this sudden about face, isn't kids abusing Nurofen plus or panadeine OTC in a local park. It's because of a family of pharma company owners who decimated an entire nation with false advertising, lies about false studies and addiction potential, and the encouragement of "outside the box thinking" from its sales staff on how to sell more addictive pills to the public.

And this despicable behaviour is why we suddenly have this nonsense, difficult, and inhumane system. It's a textbook knee jerk reaction.

There must be dozens of documentaries and long form news reports about the evils of Purdue's OxyContin marketing.

But it's rare to find any more nuanced discussion about how Oxycodone and it's extended release formulations, while a very real addiction risk if not managed well (as opposed to Purdues lies), are also actually very useful, and lifestyle saving medications for some people. It's hard to reconcile that while Purdue we're operating one of the biggest and most devastating misinformation and outright false marketing and lying campaigns in history, that message they hid behind all their lies about it not being addictive, was that this drug could give some people their lives and lifestyles back. And in many cases this would be the absolute truth. Yes, they lied about addiction potential, in the most unforgivable ways. But there are uses for Oxycodone/contin, where it's a lifesaver.

It's a shame this truth has essentially been wiped from history because in this day and age nuance no longer exists. Purdue has been cancelled, cancelling all other opiates by proxy and anyone who benefited from ANY OTC or prescription opiates, can now look forward to living out the rest of their lives without adequate pain management. It's medical policy decision making by Twitter warring. This is what scientific decision making has become.....

What's so ridiculous is that they won't ban other stuff that is arguably way more harmful than opiates. So it speaks volumes of what sort of cunts we are dealing with.

Time to refresh the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants?

I realise this is probably horrible advice, and good chance in making an addict out of you.
I'm on methadone for maintenance/kicking heroin, and I've been through a serious surgery and had my wisdom teeth pull, obviously nothing was prescribed and I wasn't expecting any, but Ive found methadone ,for both my broken leg and tooth,to be more than sufficient for pain relief ..very easy to get a legit Rx and if it saves you from turning to heroin ,it may be the better option..that is IF you truly are desperate for relief from pain, then it is an option
Please do your research and know methadone addiction is real and on par with dope, but it's obviously a lot easier to manage than heroin addiction
Another option to consider is ketamine ,that stuff is seriously amazing for pain relief, especially acute severe pain
