The first 'designer steroid' was THG

which was discovered by Patrick Arnold at BALCO. Synthesis is via hydrogenation of gestinone.

Only a few years later, The Greek olympic weightlifting team were caught using R1881

You can see how similar they are (1 methyl).

I'm not well up on the situation with anabolic steroids, but are people still producing newer and newer analogues?

How do you define designer steroid anyway?

Anyway, yeah, newer ones are still being made.

Do I take it that the BALCO (specialist chemist) and R1881 (nation-state production?) still the greatest? It seems that that this is the vital scaffold:

It keeps (with the help of the =O) the whole 3-ring system on the left flat. QSAR of anabolics isn't very well covered. an Androisoxazole ring replacing the ketone, one assumes, is where they are looking now. THG was clever on a number of levels. Little chemistry and the strongest steroid known to man. Now I presume testing is good enough to spot even new compounds...?

Catalytic hydrogenation of gestrinone to form tetrahydrogestrinone (THG).

We're designing our very own in http://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads...-random-molcecules-steroid-discussion-edition but the part about making them and testing them is missing.

Also, all of them were designed, most in the 50s/60s... they tried to make ones that would in a way be selective (reduce e2 problems (no ai/sarms back then), separate anabolic and androgenic effects, ....) and were partially successful. Now it's mostly making new ones (or finding old ones from old research) to help avoid tests in sports and/or make them legal. Real SARMs are also being developed...

I did a thread on this a few months ago, not 17-a-methyl-trenbolone which is well-known already and available to buy.

There is a dimethyl analog which is suppose to be very potent, but most probably is just hype and won't be available to buy on the open market.

Link in the old thread is dead now, but can try this url instead:

http://www.prohormoneforum.com/index.php/topic/77825-hey-pa-is-dimethyl-tren-even-illegal/

It reminds me a bit of Bolasterone, or more like Mibolerone since that is not 19-methylated.

It's probably even more toxic than the 17a-methyl one.... 7a-methly tren might be a stronger version of tren without the toxicity of 17a-methyl/7a,17a-dimethyl, but as far as I know it was never tested. 7a-methly versions of others have been made/tested and turned out stronger with no noticeable change in toxicity from the parent compound (as far as I remember).
