Steroids and the gym - the only thing to keep me off of drugs

So since 18 Ive struggled with addiction. It seems the only thing that has truly kept me sober for any lengths of time was the weeks I spent 5 days in the gym and was running Test. Maybe Ive always had low testosterone, who knows, but one thing for certain is steroids greatly improve my self confidence and overall quality of life.

And if for nothing else to keep me off of heroin, would a life on steroids be that detrimental? Im 25 years old and I believe the best way for me to further my life and stay out of jail is to get serious into bodybuilding.

Thoughts?

If your seriously thinking about a life on steroids I would do a copious amount of research online before you do permanent damage to your liver or heart. Start with studies through the NIH. Honestly it is sad to see someone literally coming into their prime who feels the need to use steroids for long periods of time. My knowledge is lacking in this area but a quick search on google resulted in a few dozen studies documenting some seriously scary life threatening side effects. Maybe you can start with a healthy diet and activities that naturally increase your testosterone levels.

Im gonna start with saying that -doing permanent damage to your liver or heart- is generally a really poor assumption about steroids. Reminds me of my ex-girlfriends dad saying that I was going to destroy my liver running test...lmfao is the only appropriate response to similar statements.

Can abuse of certain compounds cause liver damage? Yes. Not something that just happens though and fairly rare.

Can steroids cause cardiomyopathy (dose dependent) over time? Yes. Lot of factors that go into play there but given the millions of Americans (just my country - millions everywhere) and average gym goers who use steroids for years on end and arent droping dead from heart failure, it isnt an immediate concern except with extreme levels of abuse over long periods IMO. Additionally, we have plenty of specimens from the 1970s and on who have abused steroids for decades and are still around.

To answer OPs question - Ive had this exact convo with more than one person over the years and there are some people with these types of additive issues/struggles who I think absolutely benefit from channeling an addictive personality into the gym. Of course anyone could say man up and dont trade one addiction for another but, ultimately, if you know this is the type of person you are and the gym/steroids offer you a viable outlet/channel to keep you motivated and do something else - the answer is a no brainer.

Even if steroids do have some potential to cause health issues, at the end of the day youre gonna live a heal of a lot longer abusing steroids than opiates.

Exactly. The only real side effect I had from my first cycles was acne on my back, which I found was just due to not keeping my hormones balanced and following a schedule with my shots.

And exactly my life expectancy on heroin and various drugs running around causing chaos is a hell of a lot less than 50 or 60 I can promise you that.

I guess the steroid maintanince program is the answer then and not obtaining some evidenced based treatment services for opioid addiction. Here is some non anecdotal information regarding the dangers you asked about. Some studies link a mortality rate 3x higher compared to non AAS users.

Not a single study to date linking long term recovery from opioid addiction using Illicit steroids that I know of. Sure there is a lot if misinformation about the short term use of these illicit drugs. With that said I believe these substances are not the answer for your problems with opiates.

No offense but I have researched all opiate recovery options, and quite frankly they?re garbage. I don?t want to sit in line at 6 AM for a Methadone does and i sure as hell don?t want some orange goo crap under my tongue everyday. I was on suboxone it was the worst year of my life I weighed 120 at 5?8. Asides from that there?s the Vivitrol shot which a good friend of mine actually died from
An adverse reaction. I know my options.

There is studies stating opiate use is linked to and causes low T levels. And actually studies that state steroids may partially work on opioid receptors in the brain.

You don't have to use steroids to be serious about body building.
It isnt that he needs them for bodybuilding, its about a transfer of addiction in someone with a personality that is highly likely to relapse.

Ive gotten to know lots and lots and lots of ex-hard drug users in bodybuilding circles over the past 5 or 6 years and all of them essentially did what this guy is talking about whether they originally planned on it or not. Antoine Vaillant is a widely known pro with a somewhat similar story that comes to mind.

Im not saying its an excuse per se but there are instances where I think a redirection and channeling of addiction in certain people is the most likely scenario for them to live healthy, functional lives. That can be highly individualistic and really probably needs to be evaluated by a specialist and not guys on a forum but I do think theres legitimacy there.

It's what I did and I'm ok with it. I'm one of those people that just has to have something to be hooked on. I think it's simply how I'm wired.

I do so responsibly too so much better than doing hard drugs

Would it's crazy how similar our stories are. I am 25 as well, I've been on steroids for much of my adult life, but when I went to jail one time and didn't pct, my test has been low ever since. So I need an answer, it's either I get serious into bodybuding/mma, or I die. I am an addict as well

We do not see life for what it is. We live in our own tiny little cacoons. And the terrible fact no one wants to admit is that we as a human race and as individuals have no love. Because if we had love why would we go through with all this? If I love my son would I want him on steroids? And if one loved oneself how could one go down that route? Love only comes about when the self dies. And when the self dies there is no search for petty gratification at every step of the day. Because to see life as it truly is is to see beyond one's own petty little concerns and illusions. Do you see what mankind is? For 10,000 years we have been killing eachother on this planet. 250,000 wars in human history. We are vicious. Does man learn from all of this? Or does he just keep repeating again and again?
One is the history of mankind...Will one learn from one's mistakes? Will one see the error of addiction and harmful drugs and see the terrible consequences, how no one ever adverted one of the side effects and how bad withdrawal would be...if only someone would have cared.

But no one cares.

Smokers are always more than ready to offer a cigarrette, steroid users are always happy to hand you a pill...dopemen do their job...

No one will care for you if you do not care for yourself.

These are my thoughts, always with respect and really trying not to preach or act better than anyone.

Peace:)

I know I don't know much about steroids, and I don't plan on ever using them, so I'm not going to try to pass this off as something that I know about or that is common, but I will say I was extremely disturbed to find out that a guy I occassionally did martial arts with who was a nice guy just dropped dead of a massive heart attack at age 32 and almost everyone who knows him believes steroids to be the culprit.

I mean the guy was only about 5'6 and CLEARLY juiced to the gills, in my friend's words "looked like an action figure", and one day just had a massive heart attack and died.

Who knows what types of roids he used, who knows how he used them or if there could have been a responsible way for him to have done it and been ok, but I think it's safe to say that at 32 dying of a heart attack isn't normal, and that it's unlikely steroids weren't a big factor, or really that they weren't even most likely the main cause.

Far be it for me to preach, and I think everyone should be allowed to use whatever drugs they want, but if I'd ever even REMOTELY considered them, that alone has scared me away for life.

Really nice guy too.

Most likely it wasn't the gear. Probably was abusing stimulants and diuretics to cut or maintain weight or certain look. Gear for the most part is safer than most people think. Though it is far from harmless.

This is such an interesting thread?
If steroids are over used they are Harmful ...........and we are talking about having an Addictive personality , Rationalize there use to Stay off Harder Drugs???
am I the only one that sees this as a Very Bad circle ???

I would think that Steroids would be better for Non-Addictive personalities ???

Not particularly...compare the risks of addiction with each. Opiates will destroy someones life and likely end up killing them. Steroid use, in and of itself, wont interfere with a persons ability to live a normal life and has a much, much lower risk relatively speaking. If someone is going to be addicted to something then you want it to be the thing with the lowest harm potential and, here, theres also additional benefit from exercise, better nutrition, structure, goal setting, etc.

In a perfect world we would all be completely healthy, eat perfect diets, and never have any substance abuse problems...but the world isn’t perfect. Some will argue that no addiction is better which is true but also not realistic for a certain subset of people. It comes down to asking yourself what provides the best relative outcome for your personal situation. In this case, steroids are worlds better than opiates.

As a side note, if I had a son Id have no issue with him using steroids. I watched plenty of friends go from high school to college and most partied their brains out while most of my friends got on gear and spent 6 days a week in the gym and meal prepping instead. At least bodybuilding gives you mental tenacity and discipline. Not to mention the majority of pro, collegiate, and Olympic athletes are using some sort of PED. Id much rather have my kid strive for progress than most other things younger people chase.

Interesting ?
I would hope that body builder can participate in there sport of choice with out the need for Illegal PEDs ?
I apologizes if i am wrong on that statement, and all these drugs are legal and out in the open??

I hope that just with Diet and a very good routine all of the results that are needed can de achieved??

I have heard your argument, for Decades as Justification for enjoyable addictive behavior.
I have used it often for:
Money
Sex
Gambling
Cars
Guns
watches etc etc

So as long as People are Staying Alive and out of Jail
I am good with it all

Be well

Off to Chair my mens Meeting 👍

There are a small subset of natural bodybuilding competitions but by and large, no, a person could never compete in mainstream bodybuilding without using drugs. That applies to most high level (D1 college, pro, and Olympic) sports as well.

Years ago I met Lance Armstrong for a few years in the middle of his Wins my company sponsored him,
I thought he was great as a Cancer survivor as well Till I did not!!!!!!

So are PED legal for all these events or do peolpe just keep Gaming the system till caught, then start the diseption all over again???

Thanks for the replies everyone Been a good post. I recently did a detox and am now a few weeks sober, also been off Sustanon for a month now, think I’m gonna try and stay off everything at least till June then possibly jump on a cycle of Test / HGH.

In a perfect world, yes I would be happy and fulfilled sober and off all substances, but my experience shows me that is not possible. AA is a great tool, but I always find a way down the rabbit hole.

I think my best bet is to channel my addictive nature into becoming the best possible shape. And like Swim said, many positive things result in a gym focused lifestyle. A healthier diet, exercise, etc.

It is entirely possible for me to live a high quality, high output life on steroids, the only side effects I’ve noticed is bouts of insomnia and acne.

Some people just need something to focus time and energy on, I’m always researching something or experimenting with drugs, but I’ve finally reached a point in life where drugs really aren’t fun anymore. I crave mental clarity and bettering myself for me and my family. I’ve done all the drugs, the heroin, cocaine, pills you name it. Eventually your brain changes and these things just aren’t like they used to be for me. Often when I use drugs nowadays I find myself depressed and guilty for treating my body and mind like shit.

Steroids are no miracle cure, but I’ll be damned they can really brighten outlook on life for me. Increased sex drive, increased energy, uplifting and strong headed. I’ve lived a broken down heroin addict life, I’ve been 120 pounds and deathly. It’s empowering to go from a junkie with no hope to a strong, well built man with discipline and determination.

This thinking is just ridiciouless xD do u even work out? if u do then u know how good it feels. what the heck u need steroids for? how can u feel better than working out hard erryday? why add steroids? u really need mood swings and chaos to feel stable in life? pick up guitar, chess, writing or reading...watch movies...

really u just got clean and u gonna throw that nice clean slate, beautiful fresh start away for what?? steroids is stupid. bodies look beautiful when natural. Its a fact. u dont need that psychological preassure on ur life...that damage on ur body. its called scientifically called homosteasis. natural balance of mind and body chemistry. those hormones will fuck that up obviously. u dont need that! U live happy already! u really gonna create another source of stresss and suffering in life?

I want to help u think through this. dont throw that quit away on this ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. who cares about competitions? its ur body. ur life! and its beautiful and powerful in its natural state.
