I've been compounding this plant into medicine for the treatment of Lyme Disease and other drug resistance organisms, mainly for myself. I am concerned about the ephedrine content. It is a powerful antimicrobial but if the nervous system gets shot from it, then there's no much point in using as an antibiotic.

Does anyone have direct experience with this plant, in any form? Is it as stimulant as I suspect it might be?

The recommend dosage for using it as an antibiotic is in an alcohol tincture up to 4 times per day. You can see why this might be a problem if it's quite stimulant.

Nevermind. My own question has been answered elsewhere. It contains 0.005% to 0.112% ephedrine, compared to 1-3% in the ephedra plant.

Not much to write home about.
