rave doof definitions

earthcore is pretty much the most commercial doof out there but its not just psy and 'doofers' that go but rather have hi energy stuff (i'm not sure exactly what was played other then psy, i didn't make a note of it because i wasn't interested) and over the years apparently earthcore has expanded quite a lot and a whole lot of different crowds go to it now ie ravers and clubbers and what not.

Earthcore didn't really have a 'doof' feel to it i thought, it was more of a mixed electronic festival :)

Last year was my first earthcore so i was unfortunately unlucky enough to not have experienced it before it go all "big" and well known, still had a wicked time though =D

but you know i have fun at the supermarket , i make my own entertainment , its all in my head ;)
 
Recently i have been talking to a french bluelighter and he was telling me about free parties. I was just curious how u would define those as well more of a doof or an underground rave? They are out in feilds and play a range of music. It sjust that they are illegal so that just go out into the ocuntry. I gather they take a range of drugs. below are some pictures.

if those top too pics are from the same event, and the speaker stax under the tarps are perhaps the rear of the dancefloor... well holy fuck that's a system.
i got some pics of a gig in portugal, later astral was playing and they openned up the whole system- about 80k of turbo sound, a third of it was mounted on scaffold over the dancefloor.... i'll try dig 'em up.

Believe it or not that's not far from it. I'm not saying the kids all take drugs (heaven forbid!), but in terms of a camping holiday or weekend away, it is quite common throughout Australia for the family to pack up and head to the bush for a doof.

but rainbow serpent has a section for kids at their festival, so really doofs could be considered family evenrtz....
or is that not considered a doof..
i myself am into every part of the electronic music seene.

What makes me go to doofs is that moment of bliss where you can tap into, and bathe in, the collective consciousness of those sharing that moment with you on the dancefloor. While i have experienced that same moment at raves (to date its been smaller underground parties in melb) it doesn't have the same 'organic' feel that doofs embody.

'Commercialisation' plays a HUGE part in overall feel of a party, with the motivation or design of the party one of the lesser aspects impacted. It is the mindset that ppl take into the event that makes such a profound impact to the party overall.

Music aside, I rarely go to raves searching for that place of bliss, i go to raves as a release, whereas doofs it is much more about the journey to that point.

Having said that, i know i shared one of those moments with several thousand people at earthcore as Infected Mushroom played to a lightening storm - and that was at an outdoor party that has become so commercialised that it can no longer be called a doof.

Long live the underground unadulterated doofs AND raves!!! =D =D =D

I can understand the difference between both words. but, up here in the north, the word 'doof' has only been around for about a year. it's confusing because we only have outdoor raves up here (very rare to get an indoor rave)

So people have been calling them doofs and raves regardless of what music is played or what type of people go (candy ravers, ravers, music breathers). So.. what do we call them? doofs? - i think that's what i would call them... *confused*
i'm not really sure what i'm trying to get at here. just making a point i guess :\
 
I think it's not a doof unless its outdoor and there is psytrance being played (at least one stage if there are multiple stages anyway)

I think i would call what you just desribed an outdoor rave (that is if there is rave music being played)

We have psytrance at indoor events too especially in winter but i call them psy nights. To me its not a doof unless its outside and there is psytrance being pumped out =D

All the ones i've been to this strange girl with pink wings has been running around insanely handing it out.. i think she must have been on something hey! ;)

the best doof i ever went to.. they broke out with this huuuggeee like african jungle style drum (i'm talking as big as me) and fire twirlers/blowers twirling in every direction.. i can't describe it, was amazing, so tribal, it made me feel like a jungle girl =D

Goose bumps for me too! I shit you not. And any time I hear the slightest part of any track.
