I am sorry. This is a long one. My friend wanted to be as specific as possible, and is aware of the idiosyncratic principle. So a friend of mine is writing a thesis on the collaboration of worker class groups in Bohemia during the 1920s; he sometimes has deadlines, and is currently experimenting with a pro-longed, though not contincous, amphetamine "binge", which means that he 2-3 days a week (if three it would be monday wednesday and thursday) during 6-7 weeks.

Then he quits cold turkey. And doesn't do it with regularity (that is: less than four times, preferably fewer) until a new situation where he feels that speed will make his work better arises. There tends to be approximately 3-4 months between these. He buys his speed – which in his country exclusively comes in powder form, never adderall – from the internet. It is better than the street speed, but he's too inexperienced to assume he's found a gold mine.

On amps he feels his working memory greatly improved, and feels able to keep more things in the head at the same time, which helps when trying to reach complex answers. However, writing on amps isn't perfect, he feels, as it will affect the train of thought slightly, and he also notices something he doesn't experience when he rereads his work in a sober state: that he hasn't been careful writing out his thought.
However, this he is able to do sober, and it is a necessary complement to review the work closely, as he finds amphetamines dulls his syntax and prose (while, at times, being able to write better than ever before, depending on how enthusiastic he is about the task).

He is on venlafaxine 225 every morning, and 15 mg of mirtazapine every night, which in Germany seems to be a relatively common combination. He finds that it builds tolerance, which his warped by the fact that he sometimes, dulled by the amps, redoses in order to continue working, which, in the long run, is really detrimental for productivity, unless its done with care. However, he knows it is not "healthy". But then again he smokes ciggs, eats like shit and gets exercise (however, not during the amp periods, for some reason it scares him to work out on and after amps). There is something weird about the health discourse...

He eats vitamin c and vitamin b complexes and magnesium. To come down, and if experiencing any anxiety the day after, he smokes weed (which he never felt really clouded him, it dulled his reasoning but improved his imagination, which kinda is the trade off not only with drugs but with most situations in life) and, if he has any, takes 1mg of melatonin. The day after has thus far never been bad, he feels much better than after 5 beers if he falls asleep on weed, melatonin and mirtazapine after working a day on amps.

Sometimes he takes 1mg of xanax. Sometimes he has three beers with a friend to comedown, and then smoke weed, and sometimes he adds a xanax (his alcohol tolerance is relatively high and he is fully aware of the possibly problematic interactions). He does enjoy being high and doing drugs recreationally, but prefers working (yes, also weed – it has opened up new ways of working for him) to partying on all drugs except benzos and alcohol, but is easily tempted. Quitting will be possible. He has quit benzos before, and it was not extremely hard, only boring (which, if it doesn't pass, can be worse). However, he is aware that using amps in such a way in the long run (over the course of a career) is bad (though he knows that several authors did it) is dangerous. He has written one book already and realizes that this one will become much better, even though the first one was appreciated though not read outside specialist circles. He intends to write several books throughout his life. But working on books is a long process. However, he dislikes the idea of being dependent on drugs for thinking and working. He wants them to be helpful, and thus contained. Yes... here he begins to question his reasoning, in particular as to the legitimacy of "quitting is possible".

Sorry if my english is bad, it is my third language.

Soo.. You want someone to help rationalize your drug use? Or what? Also, you don't need to write in the 3rd person. We know you are referring to yourself, not your friend.

It sounds like you have a decent handle on your drug use, but you're still conflicted about it?

Well, yes? Rationalizing drug use seems like a decent way to go about drug use, but I am conflicted about it, since I am unsure as to how rational (or perhaps how reasonable) this rationalization is, since I am unfamiliar with the addictive potentials of amps, especially during a longer binge. Unknowledgeable and inexperienced, I guess.

The people experienced with amphetamines will tell you this: treasure your sleep.

In the end the damage done to your body and brain won't be from amphetamines themselves, it will be from chronic sleep deprivation. If you want to live a long healthy life make sure you get some sleep and don't skip nights. Especially not 2 nights in a row.

We don't allow SWIM, my friend, my dog, etc here. We know it's you, just say so.
I think you will get more responses if you summarize all that with a question.
