Now im not sure if this is the best place to ask this, if it is the wrong one it will be moved i suppose.

Basically im looking for a good psychologist in the Sydney (Australia) area - im an 18 year old guy and id like to see one about the depression ive been going through for the last year+... so if anyone can recommend anyone good (a guy rather than a lady would probably better since he would understand the male mind more) i would appreciate it - through PM would be ideal.

thanks people

I'll leave this here for the moment as I know that there are a few sydneysiders who read and post in this forum, however you may get a better response over in Aus Drug Discussion because of the Australian bent of that forum. If you feel that you would get a better response there, either post back here or send me a PM and I'll move it over for you :)

CB :)

Yeah youre probably right, if you could switch it over that would be cool CB

cheers

Thanks CB, if there's no response in a day or two I'll move it to social or health.

BT :)

don't know if this helps as i'm not sure if they take outside patients but i had a friend who was really pleased/helped by two psychologists but they both worked in clinics (not sure if they take private patients). one worked at St. Edmunds private hospital in Wentworthville and another at Northside Clinic.

can't recall the names but if you find out PM me with them and i might be able to help more.

There are probably thousands of psychologists in Sydney. You would probably be best off just asking your Dr about one. If they don't know of one, you could try your local community health centre, or look up the phone book, or ring around local private psychiatric hospitals. They will usually have private consulting suites attached, and usually psychologists will use these rooms to practice. The advantage with finding one this way is that usually mental health will be their focus.

Once you have a name, ring them and ask them what type of therapy they do, how much it costs, what do they specialise in etc. If you like the sound of it, make an appointment - if after that, you don't think they are right for you, just tell them. Psychologists realise that having a rapport is essential to the success of any therapy, so they won't be offended. Good luck!

Good Start

If you're anywhere near Macquarie University (Sydney)
they have a clinic which has young (20-30yrolds) &
understanding psychologists for as little as $10 an hour.

Say you were 'referred by Ryde Hospital when
you called them.'
