Police: Mont. man denied painkillers, shoots self

wait till the next two months Florida lol

MILES CITY, Mont. (AP) — Montana authorities say a man shot himself in the ankle after hospital staff refused to give him painkillers for his back.

The Miles City police chief says the 48-year-old man was upset when left Holy Rosary Healthcare hospital Monday night, so he grabbed a gun from his car and shot himself in the hospital parking lot to get treatment.

Prosecutors are reviewing the case to determine whether to charge the man, whose name was not released.

The Miles City Star reports (http://goo.gl/buHbK ) the hospital was temporarily locked down after the shooting.

Damn, if he wasn't in pain before, he sure is now!

OP, do you have the link to the article? The link you provided was a higher-level link to the newspaper, but I couldn't find the article itself.

I can so relate to this because i have been treated like a second class citizen by doctors just because my condition responds to opioids. Even though i have about 3 different specialist baking up my diagnoses i still get treated like dirt. I can't count how many times Ive wanted to blow my brains out right in front of some uncaring GP or psychiatrist. Maybe then they would realize how hard my life can be :\

So i can certainly sympathize with this guy for sure. Though he will probably be lucky if he get's some percocets out of this. Ive known people to come out of hospital with scripts for tramadol even after a 3rd degree burn on their leg ffs!

I had a pediatrician that wouldn't prescribe me any benzos for mild alcohol w/d but gave me different stimulants with a smile on her face just based on what I suggested-after doing my own personal research.

^ I had a doctor who would prescribe me any benzo except for Valium (Diazepam). When asked why I can't get some Valium he would start shaking rather violently and repeatedly say "no."

Also, to relate to this article, kinda sad that it's gotten down to this for me but I know which doctors to avoid if - say - I have to go to the E.R. and am in significant pain. Like I'll actually find out who's on call at the 3 closest hospitals to myself so that I don't run into a few noteworthy pricks such as one bitch of a doctor who I waited 6 hours to see for a lower back injury (I collided with another person while playing basketball) only to have her prescribe me 4 weeks worth of Toradol even though it said on my chart that I'm currently taking 600mg of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours for some dental surgery (had some surgery on my gums). So yea, I was quite upset. So I went to this clinic afterwards and the doctor there immediately prescribed me Percocet, which combined with the ibuprofen, provided enough relief that I could change positions without screaming in pain. Needless to say, I avoid that first doctor like the plague now.

Yea it's pretty stupid - and I must say I laughed pretty hard after I read the article; probably because I was thinking of doing something similar at one point - to shoot yourself so that you'll be treated with narcotics but at the same time I completely sympathize with this guy.

Sad story of discrimination.

The whole war on drugs mentality that people should be deprived of the freedom to use drugs extends beyond drug use for the purposes of "getting high", or exploration, or relaxing, or creativity (which are all good enough reasons to warrant to end of the drug war immediately). But pain relief may be the most common reason to use drugs, and even this is denied to us due to the propaganda spread by uptight little men in ties.

Get the fuck out of my body, government. I am the emperor here. Don't tell me what I am not allowed to put in.
Keep your morals inside your clenched anuses, doctors, and others who dare to judge me based on my personal approach to the human experience.

What could they charge him with?

I wondered this too.
Shooting a gun in a public place may be illegal.
Public nuisance?

They can always drum up something if they want your ass.

i bet the dont give him shit to take home for pain meds, some non narcotic bullshit prolly and a shot while hes in there...and on the charging him thing my guess would be dischargin a firearm in public or something like that

It has gotten utterly rediculous indeed.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yea, I think the charges are unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and maybe endangering the welfare of ones foot. ;)

just wanted to address this comment in the above:

When in a pain management clinic you sign a contract stating you will not get meds from anywhere else, you won't do illegal street drugs, and you will submit too random testing. If you violate the terms you are kicked out. This man knowingly and willingly violated his contract and was denied meds afterwards. HE CHOSE TO SMOKE Marijuana which in turn made it so the Doctors would not continue to prescribe him Pain Meds. I don't feel sorry for him at all, he is suffering the consequences of his actions. He should be arrested and jailed for his firearms violations. I suffer from back pain after a botched fusion surgery. I am in a pain management clinic and my pain is controlled. The pain is never going to go completely away, they only take the edge off to make living with it easier.

Dirty or not, his doctor still has an obligation to treat his pain. You don't cease, for instance, to treat a diabetic who consumes too much sugar. You don't cease to give dialysis to someone because he drank the night before. He may be a drug user, but he is still a suffering person.

What is the ultimate purpose of those contracts anyway?

i think the purpose of the contracts is so they can drop him and stuff like that and not get in trouble for patient neglegence...in my experience doctors are starting to more and more put us in the category of addicts any little thing you do wrong or different must be because your gettin addicted...they make it very hard even if you have done nothing wrong

The doctors are having class warfare with each other. Everyone's all mad that they're getting bought out because the economy sucks. Lay the blame in the lawyers.

Those contracts are a joke, I signed one as well & my doctor told me that they could call me in any time for a urine test.............I havent been called in once. Then again, I dont smoke weed so im okay with everything. I have a friend that use to get percocets from his doctor for leg pain for over a year & once the doctor gave him a piss test, he failed it because he smokes weed & now this guy is always in pain & cant get any doctors to prescribe him pain meds because his file has that he is a drug seeker, its a shame................
