Opioids PM for 5+ years

Ty Dixichik,
Chronic pain is a nightmare.. Literally.
Without strong Narcotics numbing the pain, I can't even stand up and walk..It literally feels someone throwing a brick on my back every second.. That's how bad the pain is.

When my PM doctor saw my latest MRI results, he said your pain is considered VERY severe, and should be rated at least a 9.5/10 on the 1-10 pain scale.

Thats exactly how I feel. The pain is unbearable.. I honestly don't know how I did it 5 years in a row with just 15mg Oxycodone 4x daily...
It had to be the Lorazepam, Promethazine, and Duloxatine potentiation that helped the Oxy become more potent thus holding my pain better.

Now that I'm on the Meds I listed above,
10mg Methadone 3x daily (30mg)
30mg Oxycodone 4x daily (120mg)
50mg Promethazine 3x daily (150mg)
2.0mg Lorazepam 4x daily (8mg)
30mg Duloxatine 1x daily (30mg)

This combo of medications are unbelievable... My pain from nearly 10/10 now is 1.5-2/10...
HUGE accomplishment.
The generic Cymbalta believe it or not REALLY helps with pain.
when it first came out it was used only for depression.. Now it's also used for pain.. Nerve pain.. Anxiety.. Etc.

I wouldn't trade my current medications for any other medication out there..
That includes the infamous Fentanyl and Morphine.

:\ Gotcha...

I enrolled in PM in 2014, with the pain specialist asking me basically "HTF have you survived without medication?". He insisted on Fentanyl the first day. I refused. I'd used patches briefly following a near fatal accident in 2005-06, but the SEs outweighed the benefits. His next statement was "There are new pain meds available that could change your life...IF you could afford them".

So my problem is NOT his unwillingness to prescribe...but yet my inability to tolerate meds. My gut shut down last October, sending me to the hospital for 6 days. It remains unresolved and I continue to suffer.

I believe I need surgical intervention (again) but I fear waking up with a colostomy.

I'd take what he's suggested. If it doesn't work out then he'll switch it up no worries, he's great, sounds highly suggestible when mixing up your med by the sounds of it.

(only read op's first post......and stoned immaculate)

My Dr recommended Methadone the first time I saw him before my latest visit.
I denied Methadone and asked for Opana... Big mistake.. a 30mg Opana ER literally felt like 20mg of Hydrocodone but in ER form.
It barely touched my pain.

I was super surprised.. all the good things others said about Opana... I expected A LOT more.
I know Opana in IV form Ampoules is the king of all opioids.. right after Fentanyl.

1mg Opana IV is equivelent to 10mg Opana PO.
10, TEN! X more stronger.
CRAZY.

But I dont IV/Snort drugs... I take everything orally.. My 2nd day on Methadone today.. I took the whole 30mg in one dose a couple hours ago.. with no Oxy yet.. and HOLY FUCK I've NEVER felt so good my entire life.. Methadone is AMAZING.. About to take my Ativan and Oxy.. I should be in for a GREAT RIDE. :D

IV opana is really not as amazing as you make it sound. It has no rush, but there is very long lasting relief when IV is the benefit... Dilaudid is better recreationally for IV

Would a doctor really give a patient all those options?

Absolutely.
When the doctor knows how much pain you're in, when taking a look at MRI's/X-rays/Ultrasounds and finds torn/ripped/dislocated discs.. They know how much pain that causes..

I have 3 torn discs and 3 dislocated discs.. My pain without Narcotics is 9.5/10 pain on a scale from 1 being in no pain and 10 being in super severe pain.

Trust me, you DONT want to experience what I have.. Even with incredibly strong Narcotics I still have pain..

I find Methadone to be the best painkiller, better than Fentanyl patches and Opana.
Esp for Chronic pain.

Yeah I was real disappointed in Opana..
My doctor knew what he was talking about when he recommended Methadone as my long acting opiate.. And double my Oxy dose for breakthrough.

So far 30mg Methadone and 120mg Oxycodone daily has been amazing..

That's awful. I hope you both find the right meds for you.

I already have. :)

From my PM Doctor,

10mg Methadone - 30mg/daily, 90/month
30mg Oxycodone - 120mg/daily, 120/month
50mg Promethazine - 150mg/daily, 90/month

From my Psychiatrist,

2mg Lorazepam - 8.0mg/daily, 120/month
30mg Duloxetine - 30mg/daily, 30/month

From a 9.5/10 pain, to a 1-2/10 pain.

HUGE relief.

I was on 15mg Oxycodone 4x daily for about 5 years.. When I first started... My pain was 9/10..
After getting on 60mg Oxy daily, my pain level was a 3.5/10...
Every year my pain was getting worse.. Due to tolerance.. So 5 years later on that same dose of Oxy.. My pain got to about 9/10... EXTREME PAIN.

But with my new meds... I've never been so happy, they erase my pain and make me feel very good.
