Photography Photography Thread vs. BL Shutterbugs unite!

awesome to see photos from your first roll, Mysterie. i agree with tpd that the one of tree shadows on the hill is standout.

a point & shoot like you have there is great to supplement an slr. most of my shots come from an olympus xa because it will fit in my pocket. have fun with your new toy!

second roll. with the same kodak 200 film as the first roll, but a smc pentax-m 50mm lens, much better than the riconar 55mm i used for the first roll.

really excited with some of the colours and vibrancy

i should start writing down what aperture and shutter speed the photos i'm taking is at, so i can learn from my mistakes better.

Very cool keeping! Kinda reminds me of some of My Bloody Valentine's album artwork.

lots of atmosphere to that shot, keeping.

that second shot is great, Mysterie.

just got a 28mm point and shoot as well! nikon af600 ...

NSFW:

other photographers' sample images for it look great, and there was one "as is" on ebay for $50 including shipping. other than that digital g7x ii that i bought for decoration, my first camera with (archaic) auto focus. has all kinds of drawbacks like max shutter speed of 1/250; absolutely no control over aperture or way see what is being used; no exposure compensation or even a way to manually adjust the film speed setting as a workaround; will only set to 100, 200, 400, and 1000 iso via dx code; f3.5 - f16 which is the most limited lens i have; no aid light for low light auto focus (despite what one review said), and makes all kinds of winding noise after you press the shutter button. but it is 28mm and it does fit in my pocket -- so hell yeah.

in my search for a pocketable 28mm i stumbled across reviews for that espio 120sw, Mysterie. from 28mm to 105mm, that's some impressive range.

and a recent shot for fun ...

pulled a roll of cinestill 800t out of my nikon fa and loaded into olympus xa a few shots in. resulting in a serendipitous double exposure with man-made stars that burn due to the removed anti-halation backing.

hydro, that camera is pure pornography! you should do some more double exposures, that shot kinda reminds me of a Purity Ring gig in Brighton. they had all these lights hanging from the ceiling but they just looked like they were floating eggs of pure light. i actually have a shot of it i took on my crappy iphone three or something lol;

sorry herby that reference went clean over my head? in what way does that photo evoke the mighty Georges Seurat? LD

this one? and thanks man :)

You gots it :)

And yes, hydro has QUITE the film/camera porn collection going. I really hope (hint hint) hydro gets something in for the extreme closeup topic photo contest :)

some of my favourites from 3rd roll of film, agfa vista 200 used with the pentax espio 105sw
these photos are all taken from the day i left to go to qld to do workaway first in a rainforest kind of area, then out in the country, till the day i got back

needless to say i am really happy with the quality of some of the images

nice use of framing on that first and fourth shot.

that af600 is out of commission with a shutter that keeps jamming, but i got a couple rolls through it first ...

this is probably my favourite photo i've ever taken, and its basically an accident; just an out of focus snap to finish off the role and caught my mate have a drag on his joint. i've since lost the original tho ༼ ༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ༽

love those shots hydro, very iconic looking, feel they could easily fit in a magazine spread somewhere. especially the second shot, is she next to a mirror or something?

basically an accident
film is full of pleasant surprises, huh. cool shot. centered subject but using the bottom third line worked well.

thanks, Mysterie. actually is a picture pasted up in a window. was once a big retail store. then a newspaper. now a giant sticker to hide dying industries. had to stare at it a second myself to figure out what was going on.

film is pretty damn awesome :)
and thanks, love your stuff so much too hydro, the colours and positioning in that one with the kid photographing you back is just sublime
and sorry what is the bottom third line? i'm ashamed don't know as i actually have a foundation degree in photography,
but tbf i only barely got it and my lecturer basically cheated to get me it ;) but that's another story for another time

thanks, keeping. that kid's a little street photographer. was photographing everyone that walked by.

cool that you studied photography. and you're shooting film. glad you've joined the thread.

rule of thirds. your above photo uses it. people use it all the time, whether they know or not. says the point of focus is supposed to be at one of the intersections. and people often say that horizons should travel across one of the horizontal lines. of course it's a guideline meant to be broken.

example ...

rule-of-thirds-movement.jpg

not mine. a photo i pulled off of google images searching "rule of thirds."

ohhh right yeah i get it now, the rule of thirds aka basically don't plonk your subject dead center like a mugshot/stick everything in a corner aha
do you have any 'formal' training/exp with photography? cause you know way more than me!
thanks for explaining man and thanks too i'm real glad to have found this thread -
i need to stop spending all my cash on drugs tho and fix my camera... ༼ ༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ༽

posted this one already but photobucket took it down so here it is again

I just got back from a Colorado vacation, and I took a lot of pictures! I took them all with my iPhone SE (didn't have room to bring my Nikon 3200D). I'm bummed because when I transfer them to my computer, the effects filters didn't transfer with them... most of them were without a filter, but a few ofd my absolute favorites use the "Noir" filter, which is a really nice, dramatic-looking black and white. Oh well. I NSFWed this because there are a lot of them, but I wanted to share some of my favorites.

(They are in fact safe for work) ;)

We visited a natural archway of stone that was at the end of an intense hike the first day... here is a nice view from it. I angled the camera slightly because I thought it looked more interesting on a tilt:

Here is another view from there but with a plant as the focus in the foreground:

Here is a really bold chipmunk from when we sat down to snack on some nuts at the summit. There were 5 or 6 of them, I've never seen them so bold before. Cute, yet menacing at the same time. One managed to grab a cashew out of my girlfriend's hand.

Here are 2 pictures I took on our final night's camp site, it was late twilight and a storm was coming. The second one has a hint of a car's headlight in it which I thought was a cool juxtaposition against the black and blue of the rest of the image:

We visited a wolf sanctuary and camped there/volunteered some for a day/night/part of the next day. Here are some beautiful wolves we met (met some other wolves and got licked in the face too!):

jLyx477.jpg

And here's a flower we saw that actually truly looked like this with the angle of the sunlight at the time:

dnFhbPF.jpg

We visited the Great Sand Dunes National Park and took the Mosca Pass trail up above it. Way up there, you could see the sand dunes at the bottom of the pass. The sun wasn't cooperating, so the only way to get them to show up was to focus directly on them and let everything else but the sky get drowned out:

D6cG6gz.jpg

We visited Bishop's Castle, which is... um, insane. 8( It was beautiful, but built by this guy who was actually there when we visited. He's got a bunch of signs (like, maybe 30 or more) like the below, all basically paranoid rants against the government:

uWV1fsc.jpg

The castle itself is part awesome/ingenius, part crumbling, and part terrifying. There are these metal walkways but they're basically made from very thin iron and scuplpted pieces of rebar. It does not seem safe or structurally sound, but tourists were walking all over it like, oh hey, there's a sign for this on the highway, nothing could POSSIBLY happen! Well, not I. But I did take pictures:

That was a sampling of them, some of my favorites. I might have posted more but that took forever as it is, I gotta get back to work...
