Hi Just wondering if anyone else feels that Phenibut has a stimulatory effect rather than a sedating effect?, theres def a slight anxiolytic effect there too very mild but nothing like a Benzo, Im taking 800mg-1200 range. Sleep can be an issue if taken right before bed too ..

Yea it does I always wondered why people would take it for sleep as I absolutely could not sleep on it.

Surely stimulates me but also relaxes me.

Like those days where you don't get enough sleep, but you want to go out for the night, without the aid, you would be anxious, tired, tense, well phenibuts relaxes that dysphoria and wakes you up a bit.

Yes that sums it up for me too although I imagine a high dose say 3g would send me into Mania town.

I take 2.5 grams, then like thirty minutes later top it off with another .5, and I ain't gonna lie, I religiously use it on weekends, and top it off with a bit of booze.

It doesn't send me over the top.

At one point I noted dosing too much at once would make my hear beat too fast, sometimes issue comes up with my dosing regulations, but I find that keeping it a 3 grams and nothing more works fine. Spacing out that last topping of .5, also seems to help from me being overwhelmed. Also utilize beta blockers to combat these kinda issues.

I guess you can call it manic to a degree, it isn't like a coked out mania, but the feel good, confidence booster, I need. For some, they call that reality normal, coming from my low points, may be considered manic, I call it functional.

Keep in mind, I use it, never abuse it, only twice a week. If the weather doesn't allow, plans fall through, and I can not utilize the drug for practical reason, I pass on using it.

I've heard of paradoxical reactions to benzos. Is this similar?

no not paradoxical, more the nature of its properties seem to be stimulating but still anxiety reducing somehow.

I never thought GABAergics could be stimulating at all, especially one that's also a PEA antagonist.

I believe it was first invented to reduce anxiety in russian astronauts without making them sleepy or affecting motor skills, unlike benzos which do?

Phenibut sure increases effect of alcohol but I will attest to that.

It's not overly sedating, for sure; I just don't understand how a molecule like that can somehow have stimulant effects.

For me, large doses of Phenibut were very stimulating. Also, Phenibut for me works as a convulsant. Several times I've had to take benzos to counter this effect from Phenibut. Unlike many other GABAergics Phenibut lacks anticonvulsant effects (IIRC GABA-A drugs works as anticonvulsants, but not GABA-B drugs). I've tried Phenibut for benzo withdrawal and it didn't help a bit, instead it induced convulsions and twitches that required more benzos.

Yes it gave me a stimulatory effect, I took it for about two weeks at 1-1500grams sometimes 2. Anymore than that just became unpleasant and knocked me out. But even at the lower doses I would get sleepy, like the story I told where I was watching porn, still felt awake but just a little tired, shut my eyes and woke up two hours later to porn still going in my lap.

Anyone have any idea of the pharmacology of this effect?

Like I said in another post, GABA-B agonism doesn't just stop at the GABA-B receptor. It has up/downstream effects on other neurotransmitters. Likely candidates are glutamate, dopamine & PEA. Most of this pharmacology has yet to be elucidated and we have no reason to believe it will be any time soon.

Phenibut is a PEA antagonist, so I suspect we can rule that out. I've often wondered about glutamate though. Isn't that supposed to be more excitory than dopamine?

I feel, it has a strong dopamine component.
I doubt that, because DRIs make me horribly anxious and paranoid, but I've never had that from phenibut.

Can someone recommend me an RC that does have sedative effects? (Looking for something to calm/relax/make me sleepy (especially after a stimulant session.)

It should do, though it's newer so fewer people will have tried it.
