Raids on four nightclubs in Sydney's Darling Harbour overnight led to the arrest of 11 people on drugs charges.

Police Inspector John Behrendt said drug and firearm detection dogs were used in the raids at a nightclub on the corner of Pirrama Road and Jones Bay Road at Pyrmont, two nightclubs on the eastern side of Darling Harbour, and a licensed restaurant on the retail level of the casino.

Officers seized about 50 tablets, 13 bags of powder and three bags of cannabis. They were either seized from patrons or found scattered on the floor of the clubs.

Officers also detained two patrons who were carrying a large amount of cash, which police believe was the proceeds of drug sales.

Police issued nine court attendance notices for possession of a prohibited drug, and two bail court notices for supplying a prohibited drug, possessing a prohibited drug and goods in custody.

They also issued one cannabis caution.

Insp Behrendt said the operation targeted people involved in the possession and sale of illicit drugs.

It was part of ongoing police activities targeting licensed premises, he said.

...and goods in custody

That's the killer charge. It means money - undeclared money. I know a guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Planning to buy a car while in the city, he happened to have 10g cash with him. Cost him almost 10x that to clear his name.

Big stuff is big cash, especially if there's anyway to implicate it was money not intended to be declared.

police madness!

If this wasn't so serious it would hilarious!

What on earth are the police thinking? They found 50 tabs and 13 bags of powder from 11 people, and some of it off the floor!!! Lets assume that 10 Tabs and 3 bags were found on the floor, that averages out to 3 and a half tabs and a bag of "POWDER" for each person. These people may end up with criminal records for THAT!!! Another example of the peaceful recreational drug users taking one up the bum whilst violent wife bashers and other violent dicks only cop a restraining order!!!

Wake up to yourself NSW Police!!! there are plenty more important issues that need your attention!!!!

I saw the actual footage of this on the news. It looked fucking rediculous -bascially the cops walking around ruining everyones night.....achieving nothing

what a disgrace. stupid cops - stop chasing the users and go after the big dealers if you want to stop the problem.
waste of tax payers money sending 70 cops or whatever it was to fuck up so many peoples night. go patrol the streets or something. ffs

I am not in Sydney but it seems that the cops have nothing better to do than bust the average user, having been on the receiving end of a bust and having an Adult criminal record for possession i can feel for these ppl. It sucks big time especially when you apply for jobs that require a police check. Its very embarassing to explain this to a potential employer. And prity much 100% i never get the job despite my extensive qualifications.
I feel for those who got fuxed over for personal use.

FOR the cops that read this board gathering intel, dont bother with the user go after the big fish, but i guess in your eyes everyone who uses drugs is a crim and should be treated accordingly, disgraceful really damn disgraceful.

btw was it not home nightclub that was busted up thus destroying your average tay paying and largely law abiding persons night?

I guess the dilemma for the police is that clubs are a place that they may catch out a dealer. Clubs are where the customers are and plenty of people buy their gear on the night.

I don't think the dogs can differentiate between the person carrying 3 for personal use or the dealer carrying 50.

They arrested 11 people, 2 of whom had large amounts of cash which could reasonably be assumed to have originated from drug sales... so 20% of their arrests (roughly) for the night 'were' dealers. Considering the ratio of 'street level users' to 'dealers' in the club that night, I'd say they already had a fair idea of which dealers would be in the club that night, and any extra arrests of 'average users' were coincidental.

BT ;)

or people just had a lot of money in their wallets.. for any number of legitimate reasons. having large quantities of cash isn't illegal. maybe someone paid them back a loan that night. it's so inconclusive it isn't funny!

/\/\ I dunno about you... but I'm pretty damn wary of carrying a chunk of cash on a night out ;)

On another note... something to remember is that when it comes down to it... the police are just doing their job. I'd suspect the vast majority are not out to ruin the average punter's night out. No matter what our personal views are, drug use and supply remains against the law :\

Well it was at the casino wasn't it? Some poor bastard probably cleaned up on the roulette, just to have it taken away 10mins later!!

I think the unfortunant thing is the police bust the social users and scare them into dobbing in the next person in the chain. That could be how they got the two people with the large amount of cash (assuming they were dealing). I think their will be alot more of these types of raids as we get closer to elections.

lots of people in this world were just doing they're job, like Hitler for example. If you choose to take a job that requires you to enforce unjust laws, then you choose to support unjust laws. As Martin Luther King once said "we have a responsibilty to disobey unjust laws"

The vast majority of drug users are good people and deserved to be treated accordingly. You, me, all of us.

i think one major flaw with police raiding clubs is the fact that people inside the club have a tendancy to eat all their drugs the moment they see the cops raiding... there is potential here for hospitality/overdose or whatnot, as many people will eat whatever is in their pockets in order to not get caught.

^Or just throw it on the ground... I think most sensible people just do that.
