NINE people, including a teenager, will face court in Sydney and Newcastle today after police claimed to have smashed a heroin ring.

The network is alleged to have supplied more than 12kg of heroin since June 2004, with a potential street value of $4.2 million.

Police searched six houses on warrants in the Newcastle, Waratah, Lake Macquarie and Parramatta areas after arresting two people in Sydney's west yesterday afternoon.

The first two people arrested in Rosehill had allegedly sold 58 grams of heroin worth $16,000, police said.

A 57-year-old Whitebridge man and a 34-year-old North Parramatta man have been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug. They are expected to face Parramatta Bail Court today.

In addition, two men from Lambton, another two from Sandgate and three women from Mereweather have been charged with serious drug offences and will appear in the Newcastle Bail Court.
