Welcome to Bluelight!

We're excited that you've chosen to join the world's largest online forum dedicated to Harm Reduction. We hope that, regardless of the reason you've chosen to join us, you stay and become an active member of the community.

Getting started:

  • Introduce yourself: Post a quick intro. in New Member Introductions.
  • Post basic questions: For many new Bluelighters the Basic Drug Discussion is the first stop for questions about safe use.
  • Know how to get help: If you have a question about the site, posting rules, how to use the site software, or anything else Bluelight-related, either post a response in a relevant thread in our Support forum or drop an email to [email protected].

The rules:

Like any community we have a few rules to try to keep things safe, positive, welcoming and fun. We'll keep it brief right now but we encourage you to familiarize yourself with a couple of really simple guidelines:

  • No sourcing or supply: This really is one of the golden rules at Bluelight. We're not here to enable the sale or purchase of drugs and, because this is so central to our core values, we're pretty zero-tolerance about it. If you have joined to buy or sell drugs and you post about it in our forums, you'll be banned immediately.
  • Keep it civil: Bluelight is a large, vibrant community where all manner of topics, some controversial, are discussed. Disagreement is to be expected and encouraged but please focus on discussing the subject, not attacking the person.
  • Please don't SWIM: Using terms like 'SWIM/my pet hamster/my mum's iguana' do not protect you and makes it harder for others to read your post.
  • Please SEARCH first: If you have a question, it's probably been asked before. Try using the BL search feature or the site Google search at the top left corner of the page before you post a question.

It's great to have you!

The Bluelight Team

Here's a quick 1st Draft for reducing and centralizing the same message. The two links can be maintained so that the PM will in effect be continuously updated as long as the URL remains the same. Please note that the "newly proposed Quick Links" links are temporarily linked to the Home page and BLUA as a "mock-up" of the proposed GUI.

Great work WR!

I'll give this another week or so, then set to updating the message accordingly. Open to suggestions on keeping a more permanent sticky for feedback, but given how solid this has been for nearly a decade, and the cleaning up you've suggested, I believe we'll be set for another decade :D

I really like having the "Getting Started" before the rules. It is a more friendly sort of greeting, as opposed to, "welcome, now sit down, shut up and listen here". And the bigger font shows their importance.

Nice.

I totally forgot about the welcome PM when I joined, but I think (now having rereading the oldskool one) that I most definitely skipped over a lot of it due to how large it was.
It's great to see the new one & definitely think it's a vast improvement, especially seeing new members positive feedback :)

One thing came to mind when it comes to the possible perspective of a new member who is in great need of help with regards to staying clean = Having their bookmark for BL to be the "Recovery Support" link.... Or perhaps that may only be an idea as a suggestion in "Rec Sup" itself?

I do like that it is shorter than previously, but maybe to make the new member really feel like they are part of... well, a family here (that's how I felt after some time) IS to have a bit more text at the end of it as with the older version. I liked that it really made me feel that I was an individual but never feel that there was no sense of community :)

Anyhoo, I'll leave that to your thoughts.
And to the new guys n gals who posted here, WELCOME! WITH HUGS & HIGH 5'S!

Honestly maybe a bit more info on how to post, what a thread prefix is, etc

Short and sweet is the way to go. It was fine for me mostly.

I did have some trouble navigating the site though. Bluelight is the first forum I've wanted to actively participate in so this forum layout is completely foreign to me minus the search bar. And since there's no "similar threads" at the bottom anymore, I had a thesaurus open in a new tab when the search results came back with nothing. Having a link to a thread explaining some of the basics would really help those who aren't tech savvy like me.

Jmo - great points.

Emma - we are planning a site upgrade in January (we expect that software to function better and bring some of those kind of nice-to-haves to this 2008 site), and between now and then we (the staff) are reviewing our forums for some mergers, better clarification of content, improved layout, etc. Feedback is always wanted, thank you.

The NSFW button did not work. Could have been my screen but I just replaced it yesterday.

by that I mean too much information for a welcome so why not have the welcome with the option of requesting site usage??? I do like it though

Hey y?all new here...I?m in here like swim wear

Hello my name is Bunny and I?m a new member, so needless to say I just got sent this new message. I was really all the way into reading it but then I see the highlighted works and of course my ADD ass CLICKS THE LINK? God forbid I follow the rules and read it all. So just a thought, but maybe there shouldn?t be highlighted clicky links when we?re needed to really read all of soemthing. Shit to be honest I never even read all of this so technically I have no idea if you wanted suggestions, but HEY MY STRUGGLE IS REAL ASF ? ✌?❤ It?s nice to meet y?all. Ok back to my hotrail research;)

Hi Bunny!

We're getting ready to change the software and revamp the website so this is the perfect opportunity for us to look into your suggestion.

I've brought this to the attention of the those who are implementing this change so we can consider it for use.

Thanks for the great input, I hope to see lots more from you in the future.
