hi from switching oxy to morph, it been feeling like theres something up there i didnt take laxatives for ages so bit worried incase it is bad.

i did go poo poos this morning as been taking movicol laxido version and natural fibre and i drink loads of water big tea and coffee drinker which does count to ur daily water intake i googled it haha bt serious im scaredthis morning that it was overflow diahhrea as was like it runny but thick.
sorry bit disgusting, i would go into withdrawals really fastfrom oxy as abused it more than i have morphine and it jus doesnt last as long as morphine so i would wake up and do big shits but they wer like bricks blocked toilet now worried incase my colon is blocked, im gonna get enema tommorow but its in the upper colon not in my rectum

You could try starting the withdrawal and get the stuff moving. I know that it's easy to say but this seems like a sure method. Good luck.

Yeah, try ver the counter things to help clean you out. Eat heathy. Drink decaf coffee. That will help your bowels move. Drink plenty of fluids . If you have diarrhea after a week you may want to look deeper into this. Call anuse advice Lin for some pointers, but the diarrhea should remedy itself in the next few days.

taking too much fiber can cause fecal impactation ive had close calls with this - the fiber bulks up your shit and makes it move along while taking opiates you get constipated so if it gets slowed down along the way by your meds and the train keeps coming and smashes into the train thats there well you get the idea, my best in the world reccomendation is to get yourself Senokot (stool softener aswell as mild laxative) and Glycerin suppositories and Exlax incase the senokot doesnt make you go, once you feel like you got a ball in your ass, use the glycerin suppository wait 20minutes and it'll practically slide out once you give it a go and trust me you'll thank me later on this one, the suppositories are from heaven when you got a football in your ass and need to give birth via backdoor
i dunno what doses youre on but if theyre high like mine, after you shit, wait 1 day then start taking 1 senokot per day it'll siginificantly help your case

also - this is my personal opiate pooping guide to shit within 6 hours, 3 senokot full glass of water or two, spicy meal with 2-4 full glasses of water, then you have 2-3 coffees and wait for it...then when you feel you gotta go i tend to hold that and use the suppositories wait 20min and run on over to the white throne

With my old scripts I used to have my first coffee and cigarettes after waking and wait for the first rattling of WDs before dosing. Just to fire off a shit because I did have some major problems before a couple times. This was with dilaudid though so the timeframes a bit different. When's your last dose before nighty nights? because this may effect poopoos time in the morning

like two three pm but i been taking time release, i do crush some of it and take some extended so i dont rattle

Used a micralax suppository and mainly got loads of sloppy stuff out but jus felt like something up there i hope its not overflow

sorry enema
been using laxido and the fibre but i drink lots of water

I went for nearly two weeks without taking a shit a few years ago. My abdomen became very sore along with my lower back. I tried pills, suppositories, etc. But they did little. I then tried lactulose and had my first shit some 18-odd hours later. Worked a miracle. I recommend it.

lol I went 2 weeks well, 10 days actually without going n Shit a storm a few days ago , I too had a swollen abdomen =p fun ain't it? That's the fun of opiates for ya
Imagine being so used to it tho like I am that you don't even care anymor
I did care a few weeks ago when I shat blood however that was scary but it was a blood vessel that popped amen

Yeah if you shit red blood it means it's just a blood vessel from a hemorrhoid or something and not a big deal. Shitting jet black turds is a sign of more serious internal bleeding and should be taken very seriously.

When I was addicted to opiates, I would shit every 2-3 days and it was hard as a rock and very painful. Eventually I came upon a solution. I would take a solid dose of a stimulant laxative, along with a stool softener. This would make the shit happen, and be a lot less hard/painful.

I developed hemorrhoids as a result of years of constipation, sucks because they still sometimes bother me 6 years later.

I like the use of the latin AE in spelling fecal. It adds a further element of medical importance to the question.

The first time I got opiate induced hemorrhoids, I didn't know what they were so I called my girlfriend in to inspect my "butt cancer" to much hilarity. True story
I know this doesn't help.... but I figured Id throw in my 1 and a half cent.

Magnesium Citrate will have you shutting in couple hours all day. I've been on Opiates close to 20 years and have had some bad constipation situations a few times. If that didn't work at the hospital is would have been surgery. The shit was straight blackish when it came back.

Since I've been back on Poppies i shit like once this week and this thread has me semi-paranoid. When I'm taking the Bupe everyday i goto the bathroom no problem. Morphine and Heroin just block me up so bad for some reason.

Must be more common than my gf thought when I had my arse cancer scare due to opioid related issues

... who says drugs aren't cool & sexy.
Square folks who don’t like the idea of having to root around their own arse to pull out the opioid turds
Now you mention it actually it does sound much worse than actually is
Tbth I’d much rather try and get it myself or with the aid of stool softener than shock some junior AnE doctor with my impacted fecal matter
When I was a young rave kid I would know straight away if my E was the real deal as I’d have to hit the bog as soon as I started coming up on it. So perhaps the answer is to simply start raving again
45 year old me would die if I tried to dance for a solid 24 hours But hmm

Stool softeners i.e. Docusate Sodium can be very helpful, but are best used in a semi-preventative measure. They're not something that can help in a significant way if you're already impacted.

Miralax is my laxative of choice. I'm not the only one who feels this way. I feel anyone who knows what they're talking about will tell you that miralax is the best and most effective. It's also a great balance between the stool softener -> ex-lax.

Onto the ex-lax. This is a senna-based product. It is referred to as a "stimulant laxative" and this is because it immediately stimulates the bowels to start moving and it's often a pretty quick and aggressive experience. If you're truly impacted in a bad way, this type of medication often just leads to hours of horrible cramps as your bowels try to move this unmovable object.

Once you are in the "impacted" phase, you are better off using the chronic treatments of stool softeners, miralax daily for several days while also drinking shit tons of water. The importance of the water cannot be understated.

Enemas are sometimes prescribed, but they are going to vary in their effectiveness based on many factors for instance, where the impacted feces are (they must be close enough to the end of the digestive tract to actually work).

You try these methods for several days and you hope that the situation improves. If and when it becomes clear the problem will not resolve on its own, your only choice is to go in and get the thing removed by a physician. My older brother had this happen in childhood. I'm not sure exactly what they do off the top of my head, but there is certainly a protocol for removing impacted feces.

Lastly, this is one of those things in life that can be no big deal, but can develop into potentially deadly situations if left long enough. The is referred to typically as "Toxic Megacolon" and the condition can easily be fatal. In fact, in a controlled setting, the possibility of this situation is often seen as the most potentially negative side effect of Opioids in general.

I have a lot of relevant experience, trust me. I can make this real simple for you. You only really need one product - polyethylene glycol 3350. In the U.S. it is called Miralax. You mentioned Movicol Laxido, which is another brand of the same stuff. It's a white powder you stir into a beverage. There are a few generic versions - all exactly the same stuff. Big difference in price. This product is both a stool softener and a laxative. If you take enough of it, you don't need anything else.

It is an "osmotic" laxative. That means it works by pulling water into the fecal matter and holding it there. This is exactly what fiber does. I would caution you to avoid "stimulant" laxatives, like senna. Stimulant laxatives work by irritating the nerves in the lining of the colon. I'm not a fan of irritating delicate body tissues. It's unnecessary. Stick with osmotic laxatives. The stuff is a bit pricey. If you can't afford it, good old milk-of-magnesia is also an osmotic agent, and it's real cheap. (Some heart patients need to avoid taking in too much magnesium. That's a rare condition. Also, some kidney disorders make it necessary to avoid magnesium. Again, that's uncommon. Most people don't consume enough magnesium.)

I learned all this because I developed severe diverticulitis. I was facing possibly having a portion of my colon removed. With that condition, the most important thing is to make absolutely sure you poop every single day. After a lifetime of chronic constipation, I finally got religion when it came to good bowel hygiene. I take a scoop of polyethylene glycol in hot chocolate every morning. Once in a while I skip a day. Now and then, I take multiple doses in one day. Your body will let you know.

MYTHS: when it comes to bowel hygiene, there's a lot of wrong thinking out there. Doctors tend to not give the best advice, even gastroenterology specialists. So: osmotic laxatives are NOT habit forming. You don't get "addicted" to them. Stimulant laxatives can create dependency, as the bowel gets used to being over-stimulated. (Actually, that has been up for debate lately.)

TRUTH: Constipation causes a build up of pressure in the colon that can lead to diverticulitis, which can further lead to some really awful things. We need to poop every damn day, come what may. Take an "osmotic" laxative as often as needed to make that happen. Your goal is to pass stool that is formed, but not hard. It shouldn't hurt to poop.

Fluid is fluid. Anything wet has water in it. There is no need to be sucking down gallons of water everyday. All you have to do is monitor the color of your urine. It should be light yellow (like real lemonade.) If it is colorless, then you are drinking more than enough . . . and possibly flushing too much salt out of your bloodstream. Excess fluid intake can cause seizures, as Brooke Shields found out. Also, heavy fluid intake can be a burden on the heart, causing fluid to back up into the lungs. On the other hand, if urine gets dark yellow or orange, then start drinking more. Good bowel function does require that you be well hydrated.

Lactulose is also an excellent osmotic laxative. Personally, I find it nauseatingly sweet. I sure wouldn't want to swallow it every day. But, if you get really behind schedule, it's a great thing to have on hand. A few doses of that with a lot of fluid, as a chaser, is like getting an enema from the inside.
