Im prescribed 100mg/night of Seroquel for sleep. It hasnt been working very good. A friend of mine gave me a 3.5mg Imovane pill. He swears up and down its amazing, better than seroquel but here i am still awake. Is it cool to just take my usual seroquel now and hope the 2 combined get me some sleep? or is this a big no no?I should also mention im on 120mg/day Methodone as well for treatment in opiate addiction.thanks in advance

You've been prescribed Seroquel for sleep? It's an antipsychotic and really has no real sleep aid, and side effects could be fucking up your brain permanently. Schizophrenic patients are prescribed this.

I'd get off that and just find a real sleep aid, Seroquel is toxic.

Cheers.

Imovane (Zopiclone) is a Z-drug or "nonbenzodiazepine", i.e. a substance that is not a benzodiazepine in terms of chemical structure, but one that hits the same receptors that benzos do, and as such a drug that carries a similar potential for drug interactions and addiction. Doctors may not be particularly willing to prescribe this stuff to someone with a history of opiate addiction who's currently on a high-dose methadone regimen.

Anyway, 3.5 mg of Zopiclone isn't a lot - it should be approximately equivalent to about 5 mg of Diazepam, so no, it shouldn't be a problem to combine it with Seroquel... and while combining Z-drugs with opioids carries similar risks to combining opioids with benzos, a single pill won't be enough to induce respiratory depression.

As for Seroquel, yeah, it's technically an antipsychotic, but one that is fairly selective for serotonin and histamine receptors over dopaminergic ones. That means it is a fairly safe mood stabilizer, anti-anxiety agent and sleep aid that - at normal doses - won't give you movement disorders. Schizophrenics usually need crap like Zyprexa, or atleast much higher doses of Seroquel. In the OP's case, Seroquel is by far a safer choice than a benzo or Z-drug (which aren't particularly healthy for your brain in the long run either).

Wow, really? I've been taking it for a while now. Probably about a year. And I've been prescribed it from 2 completely different doctors... a family doctor and a methadone maintenance specialist at a recovery clinic. I can never sleep properly ever since i started methadone back in september. Ive also gain ALOT of weight and my legs have pitting adaema from fluid retention build up. My entire body feels swollen. its like im living in someone elses fat body. the most sleep i get is when i doze off for an hour or so and wake back up. its getting dangerous, I've fallen asleep while standing. my eyes will close and ill go into this sort of small dream in my head. once my body realizes im sleeping, my legs give out and i wake up falling, or wake up on the floor. I've fallen asleep hunched over sitting at my little desk while on the laptop and fallen out of my chair. A lot of times im passing out while sitting on the couch with a lit cigarette in my hand. Im in Canada so our smokes use some sort of technology in the paper to quickly self-extinguish when they havnt been puffed on for more than 30 seconds or so. Still hasnt stopped me from ruining good pants, shorts, melting marks into the laminate hardwood floors, etc. its gotten so bad that sometimes when my gf is heading off to work she will say something to me and I will start to answer her and my speech will trail off into a slurrr and then into a snore, ill hunch over and be asleep. She'll yell to catch my attention and wake me back up for a moment and the same thing will just happen again. Shes had to resort to leaving notes everywhere for me.every week i go in to see the doctor and i get the same responses. "we want to get you away from pills, not add more or increases your doses. Get more exercise, eat more veggies, bullshit, bullshit, etc, etc ...i honestly dont remember the last time I had a full night sleep, woke up feeling rested and had a pleasant day.p.s. still want to know if its okay to mix seroquel with imovane.? I took the 3.5g imovane about 5 hours ago now.

I suppose that in combination with 120mg Methadone, the Seroquel might lead to excessive daytime sedation... did they give you normal Seroquel, or an extended release version? Sero is normally well tolerated, although weight gain is usuallly a side effect - the way you're describing it, however, it sounds like your drug regimen is significantly impairing you, so you might want to ask them to put you on a sleep aid with a shorter half-life instead (there are plenty of sleep aids that aren't addictive benzos or Z-drugs).

OH MY GOD what are these mystical drugs that help you sleep w/o being benzos or z-drugs??? please tell me so I can tell my doctor I haven't slept in weeks and I swear my body is shutting down and he refuses to prescribe me anything that could potentially be abused even though I have absolutely no interest in ever abusing anything but opiates and that's all I've ever had problems w/. if you could give me some suggestions I would be eternally grateful. I can't take anything w/ a high chance of weight gain. TIA

Have you tried Melatonin or L-Theanine? I remember being able to buy a melatonin/theanine combo supplement without a script when I was in Canada (in some European countries, melatonin may be prescription-only, and you may have to look for theanine online). Actually worked better for my jet-lag than Ambien did - Zolpidem tends to be pretty euphoric for me, and my sleep deprivation would potentiate the fuck out of it to the point where the euphoria and hallucinations were way too entertaining for me to want to go to bed. The melatonin/theanine combo, on the other hand, just made me tired and fall asleep without any kind of abuseworthy euphoria.

Honestly if you're not planning on abusing a benzodiazepine then you should ask your doctor if he'll prescribe you them, I find them to be the best for sleep. Then again if I really need to sleep I just take the normal dose of Nyquil and I'm out within the hour.

Or if your doctor is prescribing you things that don't help whatsoever just find a new one.

I take 2x200 mg of Seroquel every evening, for about a year or two now. It's absolutely a great sleep aid. (Yes, that's not the point of the med, but it's still true)
Have recently been trying combining it with zolpidem, just for fun, and I have not experienced any negative effects. I think you're safe with this one.
