RE: Ticket scalping and the scum who do it...

"Australia Press Releases
Big Day Out ... Down but not out!!!

Well, what a difference a day makes.

In what can only be described as a win to the legal system over common-
sense-logic, the Big Day Out today lost its right to stop ticket scalping on
electronic auction sites.

The court case lodged by eBay attacked the process and not the objective
and in taking the moral high ground has exposed that good intentions count
for nothing once you are in a court of law.

We sincerely apologise that we have let our supporters down. The decision
today means that for this year, we are not able to stop, or even slow, the
parasitic process of ticket scalping.

Rest assured, next year will be very different.

The irony is that the consumer is the person who attends the show, not the
ticket seller. Their rights have been ignored.

We feel that this is a fight that needs to be won. Hiding in the information
super highway is no excuse.

Time wounds all heels.

All the best.

I think if i heard right onw the news last night its actually cost the BDO promotors a lot of $$$ in fees for the court and everything...

If anyone does have a spare, im dead keen. :D

Other wise it might be ebay:|

I'm so there. Tool OMG!!!

Got my ticket, and a huge bunch of people :):) cant wait!

^^^ Tool would be worth jumping the fence for! (because i didnt get a ticket) But im thinking i may just catch them at the side show if they do one(it has sold out.crap)...i saw Muse at the BDO (same yr as metallica i think) where i was to lazy to go into the bar to meet up with you and you were to lazy to leave the bar ;)

The Herd i would say will be doing a side show to...other wise the line up doesnt really impress me much.

Why aren't BDO's being held at the showgrounds anymore, that used to be an awesome venue.

its been revamped and no longer caters for an event the size of the BDO afaik.

MELB BDO GO-AHEAD

The Melbourne leg of the Big Day Out is to return to Princes Park, in inner-city suburb Parkville. Council approved organisers' request at planning committee on 3rd October. Comedian Rod Quantock, on behalf of community group Protectors of Public Lands Victoria and local residents' groups, spoke against the move. He said the festival was an inappropriate use of public land, excluded the public from the park for weeks either side of the event and caused too much noise. The BDO was staged at Princes Park last year on the condition it was a one- off, but the festival's new home at Flemington Racecourse won't be ready until 2008. The BDO says it can no longer use its former venue, the Showgrounds, because renovations there have reduced capacity too much. Council's approval of the BDO's request is subject to the condition they never ask to use the park again. (Fun fact: the hire fee the BDO paid for use of Princes Park last year was $75,000.)

tnargus: lmao! is that a good dream or a bad one...

i hope the weather improves for you all cause it doesnt look to promising if it stays like this tmw :\

23 degrees will mean I'm not sweating like a pig the whole day, I guess. And there will be less chance of that lovely side-effect of BDO attendance --- sunburn.
That said, a few more degrees and less rain might be nice. :\

Have fun kiddies and party safely =D I want full reports on: tool and muse!

TOOL, as I expected, blew me away. By far and away the best band I saw that whole day, neigh --- in the past 12 months.
The power and talent those guys emit is incredible and I was awe-struck.

Well, not too awe-struck. I danced like a freak. =D

Took us an hour to work our way into the mosh pit and were very close to being told to back off by security, but we flashed our VIP bands and were lifted out of the sea of writhing bodies and ran into the pit.
The guy I was with and I screamed and went bananas we were so happy!

***

Major highlights for me [besides TOOL] were;
MUSE [loving that red jumpsuit like you would not believe!!!], Evermore [of course --- such a great band], The Killers [OMFGWTFBBW - incredible set, so many people singing all the words and smiling], My Chemical Romance [I don't care what anyone says about these guys, they fucking rock out and I had a great time jumping around to them], and The Herd.

***

I didn't have to use the skanky toilets thanks to a friend blagging us all into getting VIP bands [thank-you Dave!!!], but the general amenities seemed OK.
The variety of food left a little to be desired [day old Nandos or hot-dogs anyone?] and it was on the pricey side [$9- for a chicken pita?!!] but the water was cheap and plentiful [$3- a bottle].

All in all a great day. =D I'm so doing it all over again next year.
