I noticed ever since my doc put me on kpins, whenever I take them, my libido drastically increases. Does anyone have any information on why this could be or similar experiences to share?

Exact opposite for me, benzos decrease my sex drive (haven't tried kpins but all the ones I have tried do that).

Benzos usually decreases libido, i've been on almost all benzos but klonopin is kinda different, when my tolerance is low they give me a boner for no reason at all. same goes for heroin.. i don't know if it happens to anyone else as well.

On a low dose perhaps it increases my sex drive, although for some reason I feel tired after taking it. On high doses I get the opposite effect.

It's not increasing your sex drive at all, it's lowering your inhibitions. Your sex drive is more accessible due to lowering your anxiety.

I took kpins for years. I do not think they affected my sex drive.

I could be wrong.

I just did not notice that affect. I was horny before I started taking kpins. Way before.

Menopause slowed my sex drive... finally.

This is very true. Benzodiazepines, in this case clonazepam, cause disinhibition in a manner not unlike alcohol (though alcohol is, of course, a whole other drug). The clonazepam relieves anxiety, takes away tension, and in a way allows your thoughts and feelings to shift more easily and for those thoughts and feelings to be less hesitantly acted on.

I've been on klonopin for over 3 years and I'm pretty sure it decreases my sex drive, but in a good way :). I think if I was in a relationship, the lowering of inhibitions would increase my sex drive.

This. I have terrible "performance anxiety" as well as a ton of regular anxiety. Low dose of kpin (.25) erases all my anxiety.

That sounds about right. Are you female OP? Because benzos make it difficult for me to get it up from what I remember.

Clonazepam is not just any regular Benzodiazepine, it's actually classified as a chloro-nitrobenzodiazepine because it is a chlorinated derivative of nitrazepam. But back to your original question, if anything, the chemical clonazepam itself actaully lowers libido. But as Captain.Heroin said, it is an anxiolytic, but that also possesses muscle relaxant among other common benzodiazepine properties. I believe that your experience is either a placebo effect, which I'm leaning more towards, or it is just lowering you inhibitions/performance anxiety (as mentioned previously). Another possible reason is that you do have very bad anxiety where your body is in a constant state of "alert" or more commonly known as "fight or flight", in this state your body "pulls" the blood away from the extremities to allow more oxygen/etc. to the vital organ's and other bodily systems. So maybe now that your not constantly on edge, and your body can calm down, your blood is flowing freely causing your erection lol. Trying to be all scientific but the word erection makes me giggle.

I'm actually on Clonaz. (2-6mg per day) and i notice too this thing. Maybe cause i have and insecure behaviour and when im colnazepam im more fluent with speech so with sex too.

It's a listed possible side effect in the prescribing information.

Klonopin kills my anxiety but also kills my sex drive...all benzos decrease my sex drive infortunately...

I would consider yourself LUCKY. Benzo's of all kind take away any sex drive I have...which is not much to begin with because of opiate abuse and Opiate Replacement Therapy....

I have been on them for 9 months and my sex drive is still there but I have trouble keeping an erection I have been married for 18 years so sex for us as a couple has dwindled over the years to 2 to 3 times a month. I just saw my doctor regarding this and have some Viagra made my a different drug company and had to pay £15 for four pills even on the NHS. I know there are rules on price discussion but this is a legitimate prescription cost so hopefully I wont get into trouble. It seems sex sells

Original Poster- I reject everything that the thread has told you. I take a very low dose very occasionally, and it makes my libido go through the roof. Not right away. More likely when I'm coming off of it a bit. But it's not just "lowering inhibitions" or a "placebo". I get absolutely sex crazed, where I can't stop touching myself and start thinking about doing everyone and everything. It's not normal and it's definitely hyper sexual. Also, I know someone else who went from sexually active and happily married to blowing $45,000 on hookers in 10 months when his doctor put him on Klonopin. He did say he had some erectile dysfunction as well, but the Klonopin was hyper-arousing him AND causing the erectile dysfunction. I know him and his (now ex)wife and judging by my own experience with this drug, I totally believe it was more than a dampening of "inhibitions".
