I've been using Sterifilt (effective at filtering 95% of insolubles >10um from solution) to IV pharmaceuticals, but I've noticed a slight milkiness to the solution and whisps of cornstarch being drawn through them. At what risk am I of pulmonary foreign-body granulomatosis in the long run using this tek? What about embolism?
Secondly, I live in the UK and have just bought 5 Whatman 0.2um filters at $4.50-5.00USD per filter, can I do any better? If I can't I'll be reusing them, would syringe sterilising chlorine tablets or other pharmaceutical-grade NaOH cleaning work without destroying the filtration medium? If not what sterilising solution would suit? Is it worth the risk of cleaning and reusing them to maximise particulate filtration?
