its a fact... drugs actually increase your lifespan!!!

oh ok , i don't watch star strek or star wars or where ever thats from so that was totally lost on me.

lostpunk5545, thanks for the explanation on telomeres, but I have to say that I was happy at 21 with the thought I'd live to forty. But as perception is non-linear in this regard, as that age comes closer, most people rethink the age they'd be most happy to live to.

If quality of life, fascination of all new things, and love of those special continues to flourish with age, then why wouldn't you want to live forever. And just think of how the bank would treat you if you had 300+ working years left in you ;)

This is so getting archived....I just wanna leave it open a bit more to see if it gets any better =D

That's a really clever way of thinking about it? But what about the 20 hours we have to sleep to make up for that big night?

I don't really care if I don't live til I am 100 as long as I have a blast while I am here I don't really mind.

Good to see people seeing the positive side of life here!

Well done!=D

The bank would treat you like god :)...

Until it came time to pay up. I would hate to think of the kinds of debts people would accrue with a couple of hundred years ahead of them. And imagine if your parents died before their time and you inherited their debt. (Guess there would have to be new laws made about that.)

This quote from Bill Bryson's - A short History On Nearly Everything sums up my reasons for wanting to live another hundred or so years...

"Our instinct may be to see the impossibility of tracking everything down as frustrating, dispiriting, perhaps even appalling, but it can just as well be viewed as almost unbearably exciting. We live on a planet that has a more or less infinit capacity to surpise. What reasoning person could possibly want it any other way?"

I tell you what if I had a couple of hundred years left in me I would definately be at uni right now specialising in some field of science :)

eh ive always thought that by partying you're increasing your concious life.. if i define "life" and experiencing and learning, then my "sleeping life" is a particularly limited one. Although i guess to what extent could be argued upon depending on your perspective on the value of dreams.

sleep time = inert time.

i used to think it was so boring when i was little. ( i still do some of the time )

[ok and i know its important for healing...but still i know which i prefere in the more immediate sense]

Fantastic!! If this theory holds true, then thanks to my New Years effort, followed by birthday celebrations, so far 2005 has at least 367 days for me =D

^ Nice bump! I'm having a 364 day year this year. 2005 will be the year of sleep :)

Well besides the fact that the original theory is flawed (drugs would not actually be increasing your "lifespan" just the amount of hours in your "lifespan" that you aren't sleeping), the general point of the first post seems to ring true...

So far out of the four nights and five days since and including new years eve I have slept a grand total of 13 hours. Work was fun today...

Only 6 of the 13 hours I've slept were during the night (last night). The rest were during the day.

Some prefer to view it as a total number of heartbeats you are bestowed, a bit like an Energiser battery. Light load - battery lasts, increase the load, shorten the life expectancy. However, as I was a distance runner for many years I don't like this concept much at all :p

Yeah but the fitter you are, the slower your resting heartbeat is. So as a distance runner you'd probably have fewer heartbeats over a 24 hour period.

LOL

I love the theory Muzby! Ill make to use this when ppl give me shit for staying up too long!

Im enjoying my LONG life !!

=D
