Is it a form of hypochondriasis or maybe Munchausen disorder when someone “infatuated” with a disorder seeks out affirmation of a mental disorder?
I understand there is an age where introspection is heavy, coinciding with when these disorders usually become apparent (thought to have largely genetic basis as an oversimplification).
Not sure the incidence of that in the population either...?
Caveat: I am very pro-medicine (Medical field) and also have no drug use. By that I mean, I am not discounting benefit of medicine and psychiatry.

Also I would hope for a reasonable expectation of anonymity in asking this.

If you are seeking the diagnosis for the sympathy or attention it brings, that is Munchausens.
If you are seeking to diagnosis to get drugs, time off work, other benefits then it's called Malingering.
