How well, compared to salts, does heroin base perform when insufflated?

Not hugely water soluble on the one hand, but lipophilic on the other and ought to be absorbed through mucous membranes, potentially, at least.

Question is, which takes precedence in practice, if freebase heroin is actually put up one's nose?
