How has the Liberal to Labor change affected the recreational drug scene?

Well, in WA..
Drug laws are slowly starting to change.
The second Rudd was placed into power - weed wasn't criminalised, but the amount you're allowed to carry without being arrested, was reduced from 30g to 12g.
Moves are being put into place to ban all smoking paraphernalia.
I've spoken to a few of the bong shops and they say it's definitely happening, its just a matter of when, probably not too far off though.

I assume they're going ahead with that because banning the sale of ice pipes really had an affect on the amount of people smoking it 8)

Better stock up on the lightbulbs that you can smoke drugs out of, because they are getting phased out in the next few years, for those environmentally friendly ones - the ones that cant be used for drugs.

$ 50 million put up to fight alcohol abuse
February 17, 2008 11:14am
Article from: AAP

THE Federal Government has allocated $50m to reduce alcohol and substance abuse in remote indigenous communities.

The money, which the Government committed to at last December's Council of Australian Governments' meeting, will be divided between the states and will pay for substance and alcohol rehabilitation and treatment services.

Queensland will get the biggest share with $20m, the Northern Territory and Western Australia will get up to $8m each.

South Australia will get $7m, NSW $4m, while Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT will get up to $1m each.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon said the Government was committed to tackling the issue of alcohol abuse in indigenous communities.

"We are determined to close the life expectancy gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians within a generation,'' she said.

"Much needs to be done, but this is an important step.''

i hate the crackpipe/pipe/bong laws.. . its not like a smoker is going to goto snorting instead, and if they remain smokers its going to be foil or something like that which is harmful.

So i'm curious, now that Pyne is out of the job and the Greens got a few more votes, are we likely to see a change in the governments stance on pill testing - ie. are we closer or futher away to getting a GCMS testing and database operation happening in Oz? Rudd is constantly saying that he wants evidence based policies, or is he likely to be as spineless as the rest of the poiticians- and who is in Pynes role now?

I fully agree with you Ayjay.

tapout - Nicola Roxon is in Pyne's role now.

are we closer to a GCMS trial? Not noticeably but at least things are a bit more open, given it would have been 100% impossible under Howard.

not holding breath for change

am stoked i found this thread as the change of government this time round (libral 2 Labor) has not happened for a few years now maybe 8 or 12, as far as the drug laws go i'm not gonna be holding my breath for change, im in queensland where "marajuana" is the big bad (untaxible) demon and they have just banned the sale of any kind of smoking utencil (eg bong, crackpipe) yet in camberra and south oz ur not a criminla 2 grow n smoke the shit!!! (weed that is not crack), sorry might i add that camberra is where all the politicians meet... smells a bit funny to me , that and thier porno. sorry guys im dissillusioned by the two majour patries in this country, its flushing itsself down the same toilet that americia is.. rudd wont ease the illicit drug problem at all mainly because he's a good christian..(suposidly) ok maybe he will get a handjob from the alchol and tobacco industry coz thats in his partys interests. my real concern although is these police powers.. this law has turned 75% of our police force into meathead faggots with guns and badges..(25% of these alredy corrupt) who can either pull you up in the street or even enter your home with this so called "reasonable susspicion" and basicly strip you naked and fuck with your stuff. sorry if this is a lil off topic ( maybe il have 2 start a thread on this one) i have just been beaten down by these cunts last week, and am seeing too many good people being harrassed by fucking pigs with nothing better to do coz there all 2 stupid to catch the real bad guys.. anyways as for liberal to labor if anything it will get worse.. guys unitll the bluelight party wins the election we are doomed to have our freedom cencored and taken away by the powers that be :X :X :X

Wow,i found myself sitting on the fence on this topic and being able to see the point of argument on both sides.

I must say as being an observer of the society that we live in i can see a huge divide between the haves and the have nots, our society is geared up for mass consumerism...We are fed it every day in massive doses so that it has become normal.

Some people are successful others aren`t...It`s the American dream that drives the societies all over the world today.

It is a double sided blade, those that have everything can fuck up too with drink and drugs, they have the money to sort themselves out. Then there are those who have nothing but want what they haven`t got and they can fuck up too by finding comfort in drink and drugs.

The effects of drink and drugs does not discriminate,it`s part of our societies and those civilised enough will see that we are all resposible to giving help to anyone who needs it regardless. It is the Christian way and the way of nearly all the religions.

Help those who are less fortunate, rich or poor.It doesn`t matter,we are all people, all part of humanity and therefore humane.:)

Peace to all.

There needs to be a major world change, all the goverments are the same the world over in varying degrees, some better than others in regards to the way they treat their citizens.I wonder if we will ever see a world united, where the drive is not money but a unified togetherness to succeed as a human race for the benefit of everyone?

Yes i`m a dreamer, but where would the world be without dreams?

At least the new government has realised alcohol causes more problems than the illicits combined.
