Sorry to spam the social forum but I think this deserves all the attention it can get.

***Your say, right here! (Inquiry into Amphetamines and Other Synthetic Drugs)***

Well, I just got a call from the secretary of the senate inquiry. She welcomed the idea of starting this thread and including it as a submission to the inquiry! This gives everyone here a direct opportunity to add their views to the debate, so I hope many of us will take up the opportunity!

Here are the questions I suggested that can guide our responses. Please only answer what you feel comfortable, especially regards to talking about personal drug use - some of us are linked more to our offline identities than others. Please be extra careful to follow Bluelight guidelines too :)

(In addition, I could remove all pseudonyms before submitting the text to the Inquiry to further protect anonymity. Let me know your opinions on that.)

Finally, we have two weeks until submission (due Monday 5th June).

Your story

Provide a brief description of yourself: eg. age, gender, work/study situation, what city/town you live in
Brief description of former and/or current illicit drug use; which main drugs, when did you start, how has drug use influenced your life? how do you see your drug use changing in the future?

Your suggestions for synthetic drug policy
(that is, methamphetamine, ecstasy, lsd, ketamine, ghb, etc)

If you had the power, what policies would you change at a federal level to reduce the harms of these drugs?
Do you think tougher supply reduction laws will reduce drug use? If not, what effects would tougher laws have?
Do you think pill testing should be trialled in Australia? Why/why not?
Other comments on amphetamine and other synthetic drug policies in Australia.

If you have an opinion make it heard :)

If anyone has any concerns regarding proposed changes to law as applied to drug use, open discussions etc, I'd suggest thinking about what your story might contribute. Even the future of sites like Bluelight may be affected under proposed legislative changes. ISP porn filters proposed by some conservatives would also prevent open access to sites like this.

Chances like this don't come around very often. Don't be apathetic, or like those who don't vote, you'll have no grounds for criticism should your (online) world cease to exist, not too mention how your recreational activities might be affected.

Having been a part of a couple of forums like these, I'd have to say that I consider the participation worthwhile.

If nothing else, it's worth showing these people that we aren't the type to kill our mothers and rape children for drug money. We can be intelligent, well spoken and well educated.

No, you can't expect one opportunity like this to change things much. But if noone represents you, who will?

Exactly!

If you don't like the drug laws, now's your chance to say it. Maybe it wont make a huge impact, but it's something and it's a chance that doesn't come along very often.
