A few months back, I had an abnormal reaction from IV methamphetamine use unlike I'd ever had before. I've gotten access from dirty needles, blisters from accidentally skin popping, and knots from missing and shooting in my muscle. I've come to expect these unfortunate side effects that come along with IV meth use, but what happened to me was abnormal, unsettling, and downright frightened me.

I got a perfect hit; no sting of a missed vein and a decent rush. A grey spot appeared on my skin not at the injection site, but about 3mm or 1/8th of an inch below the injection site. I wondered if I'd missed a portion of my shot and somehow didn't feel the sting.

5 minutes later, I checked on the abnormality. It had grown tremendously and had turned even more grey, nearly black. Now I was thinking that it must be an abscess, although I was confused why it wasn't atop the injection site like usual and how it was possible to have formed instantly after I injected.

In another 5 minutes, it was larger and had become completely black. It was so unsettling that I realized that this was something completely unbeknownst me. I was frightened. The only thing I could think of is that the meth had actually killed my skin and caused it to become gangrenous. I was afraid it might spread and take my whole arm out. I'd be just like Harry Goldfarb.

I left it alone for a while and checked on it the next day. The black spot was at least half-an-inch in diameter by then. I decided to go to the hospital asap. They used an ultrasound to check for abscesses on my body and found one just on my chest. They drained that one, and claimed the spot on my arm was a skin infection. They gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way.

After I finished the entire series of antibiotic medication, the black spot hadn't shown any signs of healing like my absence did. In fact, it had become more troubling. The black spot did stop growing, but it had become a dry, leathery patch. There was no denying that the skin had actually died from the meth use. I was frustrated with the ER for simply saying that it was a skin infection and had little concern that my skin had literally turned black and died. This prevented me from going back to a doctor to see if the leather patch of skin had to be surgically removed, or if they thought it would clear up on it's own.

Eventually, the skin around the leather patch became dry and the patch had begun to separate from my healthy skin. Naturally, I did what anyone would have done; I grabbed that fucker and ripped it off.. Or at least I tried.. I tore off just a portion of the dead patch, only to discover there was even more under it. I picked and dug around the thing just to find out how deep that bitch went. It was deep, extending all the way to my muscle; every single layer of skin had died and turned into leather. I came the conclusion that the meth had been laced with Krokodil!

I showed all my friends the patch. Most of them agreed that my score must have been laced with Krokodil, some even bringing it up before I had the chance to tell them my theory, while some of them thought I was just being a paranoid and dramatic tweaker, however they failed to give me an alternative explanation for what would have caused me skin to completely die.

Another few weeks passed, and I went straight back to picking. Since I refused to see any doctors who can't tell and infection from dead skin to get it surgically removed, I was determined to do it myself. After many tears and silent screams, I finally got the entire patch of leather out of my skin. Underneath, I could see that some of my flesh had rotted away. I took a photograph for science, but unfortunately I don't seem to have any pictures of the leather patch.

If anybody has any theories or explanations for this, please let me know!

Holy Fuck. I don't know what to say except I'm sorry. I have never IV'ed and this is the poster child for why. Not seeking medical care is your choice albeit a very bad choice. A walk in clinic will clean the wound and bandage it and get you on antibiotics. At the very least they can see if you are gonna lose your arm.

I'm speechless that these drugs these days are just caustic RC's and God knows what that decimate the body so severely. Jesus, Get well soon.

Very unlikely to be Krokodil. Very specific to certain regions and socioeconomic factors.
Also use is less prevalent now due to codeine regulations

You know the dr isn’t wrong when they say it was a skin infection. I would go with that tbh. I would have went back to them and let them see how your arm was progressing. I would advise you to go back, just to they can see that wound and assess it. You may need a different antibiotic and that wound does need some attention.

Krokodil isn't a drug which has a side effect of killing skin. It is desomorphine. The dangerous ways in which is it synthesised from otc opiates and injecting the byproducts and bits of unfiltered crap that result are what cause necrosis in the skin. In theory many things can cause this. Do not believe the juvenile media hype that somehow attributes a symptom of injecting dangerous, improperly filtered and unstable crap into your body to some specific drug. Do that with any drug and you're fucked. In fact various things can cause such a wound that aren't just drug related.

Now to your issue. It looks like you have necrotic tissue there, you NEED to go to the hospital or doctor regardless of your bad experience, these can be dressed and treated but if left untreated they can spread and flesh can continue to die.

No way it's krokodil. Krokodil is a drug that is manufactured from codeine tablets (desomorphine). You get about 1 (maybe 2 if lucky) decent hits from a single packet of tablets. When its been made the addicts use it there on the spot. As yet no one has made krokodil for distribution. It has always been only for personal use. Besides you live in the US and krokodil is only made in russia and it's neighboring countries.

Bro you really need to go to the doctor, go to a different one, go to a walk in urgent care, something. You can't be fucking around with a wound like that, you could lose your arm or worse.

Any number of things could cause that sort of damage, it's why injecting is dangerous. If you miss at all, you inject foreign material inside your body and bypass your defenses, and infections can become very serious, very fast.

I didn’t want to see the picture, so I didn’t click on it, but I read the story, why not get a second opinion, if one doctor does ENT help, see another, then another, and so on until they help you. We’re you honest with them? You should tell them you shot something up and that caused it to look like that, you have an open wound and skin that’s rotting away, you need help. I mean fuck at the very least look at it this way, if you die, how in hell do you expect to get high again? There no gaurantee there is drugs after death.

Don't blame RCs, that's desomorphine, it's almost a hundred years old, and not that remarkable. The damage is caused by gasoline and red phosphorous, which is also in krokodil.
krokodil is only made in russia and it's neighboring countries.
Well hypothetically krokodil could be made anywhere, codeine is available in the US as well.

If your worries about going into withdrawal, smuggle some non water soluble drugs in your butt, or some very well wrapped water soluble ones (only water soluble drugs can be absorbed rectally, just in case your bag breaks open)

Of course I'm aware of that. It´s not been reported to been used or manufactured there though. Thats's just a side note. Everything else i said in my previous post was more important.

You probably already had a systemic infection and there was a build up of bacteria against a valve in the vein. This is going to kill you.

It could be anything, its in your system though and you'll drop dead of endocarditis or some kind of sepsis without iv antibiotics.

Forget the drugs or anything else.

Who cares what caused the hole, its clearly infected.

Couldn’t it just be any drug with non- water soluble particles or bacteria mixed in? Whatever it is, your probably gonna die if you don’t get help, don’t you have any family members that would miss you? Girlfriend? Boyfriend? A dog?
Don’t be a stubborn asshole go to a doctor, if you die, you won’t have to live with the pain of losing you, your loved ones will

That's still higly unlikely that it could have been caused by impure desomorphine
Probably wasn't deso, but could have been something else that was synthesized in a similar manner, desomorphine's synthesis includes a part that's similar to methamphetamine synthesis from pseudoephedrine, so it could be like an American variant of what the Russians have been doing.

In theory Donald Trump really enjoys watching gay midget porn. No one just knows about it. So yeah I guess almost everything is possible.

In practice massive fucking holes from IV are due to impure reactions from shittily synthesized drugs. So yeah I guess almost everything is possible.

That I can agree with. You insisting it's "krokodil" is far fetched idea.
