Loved this totally cliché-ridden action film!
The first 20 minutes of this film feel like a bored screenplay writer rushing to cobble together some tenuous premise in order to justify a film that basically involves a one-man tank ploughing through people! :D
The superficial relationship with his estranged daughter, the angry and bitter wife, the financially powerful (yet physically weak) new husband buying his daughter's love, and the hero-worshiping colleagues who provide a Seagal-like back story... they're all there. And they're all perfectly forgivable, along with the total predictability of how the film will develop and end.
The performances in the first act were delivered with the sort of panache that comes when an actor knows that they're a temp - a short-term stand-in being hired for a week to provide a flimsy premise for Neeson to do his Jack Bauer impression in the main event. Haha! But who cares?
While it has similarities to Death Wish, I though The Limey was probably a more suitable parallel. Very fun. Very over the top. Very violent. I thought some of the fight scenes were very realistic and very well-shot. Made Neeson look like a true badass.
