This movie is a good movie.
Ellen Page is fantastic.

I loved this movie, but now when I've seen Juno, I'm thinking that Ellen Page is not so good actress.. She's kinda same on both films, so clever and "old". Juno is really good movie too, but I think I'll have to see one more movie, where's Ellen Page, just to see can she act any different..

good production, but lame arsed story. the ellen page character was particularly ridiculous. i was just as bored with her as angered by her. it's like a teenage girl "control freak power porn" version of death and the maiden, which is infinitely superior in every way.

2/5

seriously, if you think this movie is in any way good, go watch Death and the Maiden.

This movie was so bad it made me want to puke! There are so many unbelievable scenarios it is sad, really.

It might be one of the worst movies of all time actually.

i watched both this film and death & the maiden for my feminist theory class....

and i enjoyed hard candy more. i guess i identified with ellen page's character more, and was more invested in her story and what she decided to do.

^really? i found her character absurd to cartoon levels.

sigourney, on the other hand, displayed a wonderful mix of emotions and doubt and she didn't magically accomplish anything beyond her physical capabilities.

well, yeah! i was 17, still vengeful and hateful towards men after a high school career full of stories of sexual abuse of my friends at the hands of teachers, therapists, boyfriends, whatever. i projected myself on to her and enjoyed her rage and revenge. and you're right, ellen page showed no doubt, she was so certain, she was perfectly adolescent, when you need your friends so bad you sleep in their beds and talk to them till 5am on the phone. teenage girls are frightening in what they can accomplish when they want to -- they don't have the feelings a grown woman does to slow them down. after 'hard candy' my class was ablaze. i mean, you could see it in everyone's faces. everyone KNEW someone like that, and they wished they could play her part. do i know what it's like to be tortured by the secret police? not really, no. can't even fathom. do i know what it's like to be taken advantage of by a man?

oh yes.

this is actually one of my favourite movies.

I wonder what ever happened to the person who created this thread? Oh yeah. He became me. :D I was such a douchebag back then. I do like this movie, though. It's ice to think that Ellen Page's character is still out there exacting justice on pervs with a rubber band, a sharp knife and a video tape.

that's cool. as a thirty something male watching it for the first time i have difficulty sharing this perspective. thanks for sharing it. :)

is there any degree of fantasy in your enjoyment?

I watched it last night and it was okay, but not shocking, (a bit funny at times.lol,)
because in the world we all hate pedos and something like that could happen to them and we would understand the reason this done,
I found Mum & Dad more shocking because unlike hard candy there is no reason for them doing what they do other than them just being sick and doing the stuff to satisfying their own sick selves., thats where i find the shock tactic, the fact that people like this probably do exist,
