DXM pills in Australia?

I have only had the opportunity to try DXM pills once, crushed up 10x30mg dexofan, mixed it with OJ & drank it. I found this high to have been much superior to the Robotussin max strength syrup because that makes me feel horrible. Are there any over the counter cough suppressant pills containing DXM available here in Oz?. Im not asking for sources but if there is a brand of robotussin like gel caps or pills then let me know!

I have just looked through MIMS and although there are a lot of tablets/lozenges containing dextromethorphan, but they also contain other active chemicals. There are two lozenges containing DXM only that I know of and they both have 5mg per lozenge. However being a lozenge you cannot swallow large amounts of them and they are low strength compared to 30mg per 10ml in Robitussin DX. It is possible that drinking the DX syrup in high quantity leaves your stomach feeling like shit because it contains the following inactive substances:

glycerol, citric acid anhydrous, allura red AC CI16035, flavours, saccharin sodium, ethanol, menthol, glucose liquid, high fructose corn syrup, and purified water.

Although they are inactive having 100ml+ in your stomach of that is probably going to be different when compared to a powder which is DXM only. If you are dedicated enough an acid base extraction is not too difficult. Have a read at Dextroverse and Third Plateau for extraction and other DXM related information.

agent lemon is the way to go, tastes like assholes but you only gotta drink half the volume and you can slam it like a shooter.

I was referring to an acid/base extraction, where you end up with a powdered product.

Acid-base Extraction (method 1)


THINGS YOU NEED
1-bottle tussin or any DXM containing compound. (you can use as many bottles as your sepratory funnel will hold).
1. 500 Ml Separatory funnel.
2. pH paper.
3. Pure Sodium hydroxide
4. Distilled water.
5. Hcl (hydrochloric acid / muratic acid)
6. Toluene

STEP #
1. Pour your bottle of tussin into your separatory funnel.
2. Add as much distilled water as you did tussin.
3. base the tussin / water solution (using a solution made from your sodium hydroxide) to a pH of about 9.
4. Add about 50Ml toluene to this based solution of water and tussin.
5. shake well for about 3 or 4 min.
6. Let layers separate.
7. Drain off the bottom layer (keeping it for more extraction with toluene)
8. Place your top toluene / DXM freebase layer in a glass container for later.
9. Pour your basic tussin /water layer back into your separatory funnel..
10. now do steps 4 to 9 two more times. combining your toluene layers each time.

NOTE; You are now done with the basic water / tussin layer, but you should keep it incase something didnt go well.

NOTE 2; You now have 150 Ml toluene with your DXM freebase suspended in it. You can evaporate the toluene now, to have your DXM in freebase form, but I dont recommend you do so. DXM freebase is an oil and is very hard to work with for storage.

So the next step is to;

WASH THE DXM FREEBASE

NOTE; You need at this point to wash the toluene / DXM freebase to remove any impurities that came over into the toluene layer during extraction. Trust me this step is needed if you dont want a yellow to brown product when all is done! This will save you from doing a procedure called recrystillazation.

STEP #
1.Pour your toluene / DXM freebase back into your separatory funnel.
2. Pour 100 Ml distilled water into the separatory funnel with your toluene / DXM.
3. Shake this mixing the toluene / DXM layer completely with the distilled water.
4. Drain off the bottom distilled water layer and dump it down the drain.
5. Do steps 2 to 4 one more time.

NOTE; Now you are ready to;

CONVERT THE DXM FREEBASE INTO ITS HCl SALTS

STEP #
1. Pour 100 Ml distilled water into a glass container, add enough hydrochloric acid to this distilled water to make its pH about 4 or 5 (a pH of 5 is perfect!)

NOTE; You still have your toluene / DXM in your separatory funnel.

2. Add 50 Ml of your acidic water solution to the separatory funnel.
3. Shake well for about 4 min.
4. Let the layers separate.

NOTE; Your DXM has been converted to DXM HCl and has moved from the toluene layer into the bottom water / acid layer.

5. Drain off the bottom acid /water / DXM layer and keep it for evaporation.

NOTE; to be sure you got all your DXM from the toluene layer do the following step.

6. Do steps 2 to 5 one more time (which will use up all your acidic water solution.)
7. Now combine your water / acid / DXM layers in a glass backing dish and let this evaporate till all is left in your evaporating dish is a white crystalline substance.

TIP; Place your evaporating dish as close to a stove vent fan as you can get it (BE SURE THE VENT FAN IS VENTED TO THE OUTSIDE!!!!!!) It will evaporate your DXM / acid solution overnight.

NOTE; You now have pure DXM Hcl use a razor blade to scrape up the powder and you are done.. Be sure that the powder is completely dry before you scrape it up with your blade, if you dont then the acid will react with the metal in your razor blade leaving a yellowish impurity in your DXM.HCl

TIP; You can now wash your toluene layer with distilled water a couple of times and it will be good for the next time you want to extract DXM! Check out my chem. website for information and glassware.

Im thinking about trying this but what are the generic names of Toluene and Sodium hydroxide? I also have no idea were to get Hcl. Im also guessing all these things are legal?

Toluene is in paint thinners etc, Sodium Hydroxide is bleach and Hcl is chlorine im pretty sure

Thats pretty bad advice, most of the stuff you said is completely wrong. Toluene is in paint thinners, but they often contain other chemicals too, you will need to find pure toluene. Sodium Hydroxide is a strong base which is often used as drain cleaner. HCl is Hydrocloric Acid, not chlorine. Only use pure products!

If you arn't able to locate these items then you shouldn't be doing an extraction. It doesn't take much research to find out where/what these products commercial uses are, so make sure you research it properly and know what you are doing!

i fin eating a good meal before hand helps and nuthing greasy!!!ive done the eat 3 dagwood dogs and drinking a bottle..doesn't sit to well. ha ha ha

Nobody said you have to drink the whole bottle to get a fun time off DXM. Smaller doses can be fun too - a 50mL (150mg) dose of Robitussin DX is not hard on the stomach in my experience, and can produce enjoyable, repeatable effects. Sure it's not tripping ballz, but it's not throwing up in a corner wishing it was over for 6 hours either. There's a great FAQ on Erowid by William White if you want to learn more about DXM.

I've always found that eating before taking DXM nullifies the trip...maybe it's just me, but I have to starve a good 12-18 hours and I need to dump the tablets/chug the syrup at once and hold it down (which is the hardest part) to trip. No food, else it changes and feels like being slightly drunk...

Has anyone else experienced this?

Go with the Agent Lemon extraction...it's simple and effective. Better yet, buy your DXM in powder form straight off the net...this is not a controlled substance...yet.

Dextromethorphan, DXM
Dextromethorphan (DXM) tablets. Each dextrometorphan tablet, brand name Romilar, contains 15 mg dextrometorphan. Dextromethorphan, DXM, comes in packs of 100 tablets and is manufactured by Roche.

Dextromethorphan directions
Dextromethorphan is an antitussive, preventing or relieving coughing.
Dextromethorphan is indicated for the relief of coughs and upper respiratory symptoms, including nasal congestion, associated with allergy or the common cold.

The normal dosage of dextromethorphan for adults is one tablet of 15 mg every 4 hours and for children, 6-12 years old, half a tablet every four hours as needed. Do not exceed six doses in any 24 hour period.

For children younger than six, consult a doctor.

The most frequent adverse reactions to dextromethorphan include sedation, dryness of the mouth, nose and throat, thickening of bronchial secretions, and dizziness.
