Dexamphetamine perscription and moving states/switching psychiatrists?

Ive been perscribed dexies for just over 2 years now for ADD, and I'd like to move to Melbourne sometime this year.
However moving to Melbourne will mean switching psychiatrists, and as to where the line is drawn between whether ADD is an actual disorder or not, I dont know..
I was diagnosed with ADD, not ADHD, which means that I just daydream a shitload and cant hold concentration, but other then that, everything is just as it is. But I do know that dexies have helped me sooo much over the past two years, I was getting the lowest grades in my class beforehand. Im still not the smartest, but I'm atleast average now, and I have better aspirations/motivation.

What I'd like to know is when I move, and go to another psych, is it likely/possible that he/she may say something different? Maybe not believe in medication so much? And thus no longer perscribe me?

Dont get me wrong, I use them for all the right reasons, and don't plan to use them for the rest of my life, but when I move to Melbourne I have the intention to study at uni there, and Im not quite sure how I'd cope without them (considering how low my grades were beforehand)

Thanks!

OP: It's possible whatever shrink you see down there may have a different view of how dexamphetamine should be used compared to the one you're seeing now. You can probably get your current psych to write a referal or something for you to explain your medication regimine? Ask him/her about it.

I think your stressing over nothing hey , im prescribed dexies and went off em in HS back on for a few months now (26 years old) so i had a major break and i got them with no hassles. Stress less , just get a referrel and you should be fine.

^ if its not the same doctor, how can this apply? This is all just speculation; "what will my future psychiatrist do?" I dont think its as easy as you let on.

Well I think my particular psych justs signs up everybody for meds rather then trying to find out what would best suit them first (alternative treatment, like fish oil or programs and so on). But thats just an idea someone put in my head, someone who doesnt know psychiatry..
So if he were to give me a referal, my next psych shouldn't have much of a problem with keeping me on the dexies?
The only reason I haven't asked him or such, is because moving to Melbourne is just an idea atm, not set in stone.
And a few friends I know have tried to get a perscription for dexies to use recreationally and just to have there but were denied, so I just dont know how they can tell the diff between ADD and non-ADD..

I'm in the process of changing from my GP to my Psych, I have to be reassessed as an adult.. I have ADHD.

I don't think it's going to be much of a problem, I still have all the symptoms I've always had; hyperactivity, no concentration, acting on impulse etc.

> get current psyc to agree to provide diagnosis/dosage notes
> seek melb psyc who specialises in ADD/ADHD, use such groups as adhd coalition of vic to assist
> if it takes numerous attempts to find a like minded psyc then so be it
> understand that each state are independent when it comes to the regulation of drugs of dependence.
> an authority script written in one state can not be filled in another.
> a level of re-diagnosis will be required when moving states
> be honest about your dex - even though the authority approval is independently state based, the PBS is federal run therefore each state has access to your full authority prescription history
> time your move just after your next written authority - this way you can fill the first before you leave and then arrange the pharmacy to mail the dex to you in melb which will give you a couple of months to find the right psyc
