hello there!

So after asking around it seems that for keeping a large quantity of AMT for a long time it is best to transform it into a salt. I followed the instructions carefully (well, actually there was not that much to follow): put the freebase powder into some demineralised water, then add some HCL and stir until all the powder is disolved, then evaporate the water until you get crystals (mine were orange BTW, although the freebase powder was white...). Then I stored it in the freezer. Anwyay, I've tested the product last weekend and I have the feeling that there was a massive loss of potency! With freebase taken orally I've had very strong effects with as little as 10 mg. Now with HCL I started with 30mg and didn't get much, effects were quite similar to a low dose of MDMA although no hallucinations and the effect dropped after about 4 hours, then I took another 30mg and had some mild hallucinations, but still not as strong as only 10mg in freebase. Now I've heard people talking about how once it's in HCL form it loses about 20% potency but in my case the loss would be more like 600%?? Or is it just that my body is getting used to the product (the last time I've tried the freebase was 2 weeks ago).

Now I'm wondering why the hell did I even bother transforming it into a salt in the first place, if I was gonna get a loss of potency anyway, might as well just kept it in freebase form...

So does anyone have a clue on what happened?

thanks

are you sure it was in a base? AMT isnt that stable man... as a base... it's usually already a salt... people tend to go the opposite direction.

I can't come up with an explanation as to why your AMT suddenly lost potency, other than you fucked it up at the evaporation stage by applying excessive heat. Or you're just growing tolerant to the stuff.

AMT is fairly acid-stable, it shouldn't rearrange or degrade...
The freebase is "unstable" to aerial oxidation but I don't really think boiling water or acid would fuck it. Nor would AMT evaporate at an appreciable

Your AMT HCl you made has water entrained in it. Like any other HCl salt of an amine it will absorb some water from the air etc and since you recovered it from an ~aqueous~ solution, all the xtals will be full of water. Weigh out the xtals you have now and you'll probably have way more than you started with...
Crush the xtals up and dry them in an oven set to 60-80C maybe? The other thing to do is just increase your dose until you reach a happy level

i always thought those were made as a salt already... i dont think he had AMT base man... that wouldnt be stable over a long time...

gotta do a mass balance with moles... man you probably had the salt and just added some acid to it. check the pH with some litmus.

The best way to convert to the freebase is to dissolve in ether and then bubble HCl gas through the soln. The salt should precipitate out. Of course this is beyond the scope of what most people have access to, but I just thought I would throw that out there.

As a general rule of thumb, water just sucks. Its extremely hard to evaporate it all and get it out of your material.

all tryptamines were in salt form. if you dont know the ion, then you really cant do too good of a conversion anyway. Cl vs formate or god knows what, sulfate, could be anything... ive drifted away from that scene. i like where i am now. at a university, with equipment, and labs, and not doing anything illegal or stupid.

didnt think that would ever happen. im a lucky ass mother fucker, damn fortunate, and fucking greatful!

but ive never seen a tryptamine as a base ever... weird... the chinese always say no no unstable no good it come ay see el ay see el. i am not racist. i love filipina girls.

Most non-4-substituted are relatively stable as free bases if stored dry and in amber glass vials (i.e. away from light)

Mmmm...oddly, this disclaimer somehow makes you seem more racist. :P
...
I've noticed that a few of your posts have contained off-topic rambling. It's not really necessary...at least that prolifically.

ebola

i are spectre: err dude, I apreciate that you want to help and all but could you at least get your facts straight before answering? AMT is almost ALWAYS sold as freebase and people transform it into a salt so that it doesn't oxydize with air... It doesn't really help to post 4 replies if you don't even know what you're talking about. (not that I don't apreciate your efforts...)

sekio: indeed, that seems a pretty plausible explanation, I've put some dessicant in my bag and left it at room temperature, we'll see what results I have in a few days ;)

lemmi, you'll probably have a hard time getting it totally dry with dessicant. amt hydrochloride is super hygroscopic and will draw water out of the air.

do you know how much amt freebase you started with? figure out a good concentration for a liquid dose, say 10 mg/ml. say you started with 1 gram of freebase, dissolve it in 100 ml of vodka. then you can use an oral syringe to measure precise doses. the amt is not going to get any more potent from turning into a hcl salt so youre safe there ...

you can also use water but you will need to add a preservative into it like benzyl alcohol to stop bacteria from growing.

for future reference i believe most tryptamines like being fumarate, maleate, or succinate salts
